  1. I have wanted to say something about HusTruck's attempts to barter for a while now. I have had some direct dealings with him and although he had at the time a positive kudos thread I did not get a good vibe from him. I never completed any transactions with him(Hassan?). Call me crazy but I would just like to add to this thread that I feel he is definitely shifty. I am glad to see his name brought up here. Thanks.
  2. I am surprised no one has mentioned the OWL card in this discussion... However in response to the OP I would say not to let it overwhelm your decision to buy a book as it is only one small factor mainly relating to presentation. More so with newer books than old. Further an aspect of presentation not readily perceivable until a case is cracked.
  3. In Avengers when Banner turns and says..."that's my secret, I'm always angry"...then turns into the Hulk.
  4. I was hoping to help out with some recognizable production flaws on early Marvels. I hope this is the best place to post. If anyone knows otherwise I would be happy to become the wiser for it It seems after asking a # of FF fans and looking at very many copies that Fantastic Four issues #11-13 have a very bad miscut/poor centering flaw. In fact its seems near impossible to find a copy of any of those books with both the CCA stamp and price circle intact. Either one or the other is clipped. Not to confuse but to get just a little technical either Type I or Type II mis-wraps are almost certain on these books. Further it is a common held belief that many early '62-'63 Marvels have miswraps and poor centering as a rule. For anyone that cares I hear this is likely due to the production methods used at that time. As many collectors might know that through the different ages the size of books change. Miswraps to my understanding have very little bearing on the grade but do have a great bearing on "eye appeal".
  5. Vintage you know a heck of a lot about comics. I read the conversation between you and jimjum on the question I posed to him about production flaws. I think between the two of you there is enough knowledge on the matter to draw some conclusions. I hate to derail this thread any further so it would seem there is a small concensus that FF #'s11-13 are as a rule off center/miscut. So if I may be so bold I would like to present that as a post in the comic & restoration flaws Q&A thread . Perhaps with a small foot note on it pertaining to all '62-'63 Marvels. So if anybody thinks it a bad idea or not worth mentioning then somebody stop me...before its to late and I get booted from this thread for being irrelevant. Thanks!
  6. ..... perfectly centered 21's are not easy..... and FF 16 GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u jimjum I think you had said in your post that perfectly centered FF issue #21's are hard to come by. Do you think that perhaps that book is worth mentioning in the notorious production flaws thread?? .....many '62 and "63 Marvel's are that way..... but in my opinion.... FF 12, 13, and 21 are 3 of the more difficult one's to find with perfect PQ..... but how many have I actually seen to base my opinion on ? Let's say I'd nominate them for a group consensus..... GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u Strangely enough, I think that the during earlier part of the print run of each issue had less production defects than the later copies. These are some original owner books that I picked up a couple of years ago. They came far from the East coast and I can only assume they were printed earlier in the production run as they had to travel further. Nearly every book from the run had perfect centering, even the tough to find issues. #13 is obviously an exception here.

  8. Your book would be a Type 1A mis-wrap in that case. Although it looks it from my photos the white area on my FF grows toward the top of the cover. I hope I was not being obscure. Perhaps any further discussion of this matter however might be best left for the PGM section. Nice talking to you.
  9. Yes, to some small extent there is a terminology, although it is not something you will ever see denoted on a CGC label. The terminology I was trying to use to describe my book is located in the glossary section of any of the Overstreet grading guides. One of the copies I have which is a used first(?) edition I found for only a dollar or two. It appears you have a similar mis-wrap...So assuming your cover is cut squarely, an angled or triangular mis-wrap would be a type B like mine. If the mis-wrap itself is squarely mis-wrapped it is a type A.
  10. I was referring to the type of mis-wrap. That is where the triangular area of white ;the back cover; shows along the binding. It has to do with overall eye appeal, and some collectors down grade a book not only for a mis-wrap but for the type of mis-wrap as well. Black ink shows every little flaw. I think it is cool to have a book that age in that high of a condition. Thank you for the compliment.
  11. Nothing special. Type 1B, a little off center. A hard grade for so much black ink.
  12. Does any one play World of Tanks? If so what is your highest tier tank?
  13. That's cool ... I love to do that too (thumbs u Thank you Silent Master
  14. Cool idea OV... too bad more people do not have more issues to post. A priveledge to look at though. Thanks for posting them.
  15. So I have a stupid question...where does the story line for that series of ARAH that you mentioned pick up Silent Master? Its just that I am trying to read as much continuous GI Joe as possible and I want to make sure I do not miss anything. I mean duh what series of back issues should I buy to get me there? Thanks!
  16. That LRP sketch really came to life after it was colored. I have returned here a number of times to admire it. Thanks for posting!
  17. Thanks everybody!Sgt. Rock was always my "go to" comic when GI Joe was sold out on the local newsstand. The story telling therein was truly genius and the few copies I have I read over and over again. I will never know how they could fit so much in one book. Somewhat ironic, the 80's GI Joe comic book that I can credit with becoming a permanent collector was issue #24. For those that might not know it was illustrated by Russ Heath, another favorite on the war forum. My favorite DC war cover, and there are truly some marvelous pieces of art would have to be the washtone cover of OFF #20. I like how here in the war forum there is such a strong connection of camaraderie and I hope to contribute again sometime. Thanks!
  18. What the 2 helmets have in common is the hole.It is very telling of what happened to the occupant and suspenseful for the viewer. I know everyone in the war forum is a big fan of Joe Kubert. While I have read a few hundred pages of the thread I do not believe I have ever seen these two issues of Showcase posted. I hope it is ok for me to show off the latest addition to my collection. I am a big fan of GI Joe comics from the 80's but my collection was incomplete until I got these. I just wanted to tip my hat to our "roots". Thanks!
  19. This helmet reminds me of a real helmet that is on display in the war museum at West Point Military Academy in upstate NY. Cool Comic!
  20. Thank you to all who replied to my questions. I just picked up America's Elite, which gives me a whole heap of the "continuity storyline ". I think now issues 155+1/2 and 156, GI Joe special(expensive!) sound most interesting to me. I would like to pick up the Oktober Guard TPB and I will most definitely look into the Declassified stories as well. Thanks again. Yo Joe!
  21. Maybe you would be kind enough to clarify : are the declassified books old material from the ARAH series reprinted or are they completely new stories altogether? From the product description in the link you gave me maloney414 it actually looks like new material. Thx.
  22. SilentMaster I was reading the posts early on in this thread and you have the most awesome GIJoe comic collection I have ever seen. Your collection is definitely worthy of the awards you have gotten. It must have all been expensive. It is probably cheap and boring in comparison but I have recently completed a fairly comprehensive run of GI Joe comics. My collection consists of ARAH issues 1-110 in floppy copies, then issues 111-155 in GI Joe classic graphic novels(VOL.12-15). I have 1-28 In GI Joe special missions all off the newstand. Recently picked up Origins 1-23, Cobra+Cobra II all issues, and Frontline #1-18. I have all the original year books;#2 is my favorite, I really like the Oktober Guard because they are anti-heroes to me. In my collection is also included European missions #1 , 3-D #1+3, How to draw GI Joe, and vs Transformers #3.I have the Stormshadow Graphic Novels and The Order of battle graphic novel Vol. #1. I plan on picking up Americas Elite soon. I am now wondering what to collect next as I am enjoying re-reading everyone of theses issues in the last 6 months. Should I fill in the few blanks of what I have ?Or could anyone recommend any additional GI Joe series that I might like ,as I am wanting to move away from "super hero" comics for the time being. Thx.
