  1. That's a really good point! I hope they stay available to future comic fans.
  2. I like picking up these DIY magazines for a buck or two at flea markets. They are definitely of a different era when our fathers could fix anything and husbands were expected to be handy!
  3. I'm amazed at how much bibliographical knowledge you possess about sci-fi and fantasy!! Every time I look at one of my digests that I think little of, I think to myself "I'm probably missing something here..."
  4. I'm going to have to agree with you - huckster or not - that IS a masterful layout by Buscema.
  5. Yeah, it was gaining steam locally in the 120's but 130 is the issue I recall when people started buying multiple copies every month. Experiences may vary. I can recall the big buzz when Alpha Flight got their own mag. I found myself tuning out after the first dozen or so issues. How long did Canadians stay keen on their own series? Somewhere I also have a poster that Marvel did for comic shops and distributors - same artwork as the first issue. In fact, I have several other cool posters from that era including one for King Kirby's baxter paper New Gods and several independents like Grim Jack.
  6. I was reading Marvels heavily then and I put the "buzz" for X-Men right around the Dazzler debut in 130, and then really taking off a few issues later with the Dark Phoenix saga. For Daredevil, it seems the Death of Elektra issue (181) is when everybody else took note and really started buying the back issues. Both runs took a relatively long time to get "discovered."
  7. I'm happy to say I just completed my first deal with Bob and I couldn't be happier. All the right boxes were checked. My only question is: what took me so long??
  8. This is a Single Series, right? It's a wonderful, early book. Amazing shape, too. I'm going to go back in time and tell the kid who owned it that it's alright if he reads it carefully...
  9. I'm thinking partial swipe here? Hitherto unknown to me... They'd look nice together!!
  10. I'm a little like you probably in that I collect so many things that I don't have to have anything right away. However, that doesn't mean I don't pony up every now and then. I'll pay near retail if I want an item. Still, I hold out hopes of finding one locally. The cost of shipping stuff like that is prohibitive, though I did bite the bullet and buy a Howdy game off the Bay not too long ago because I got sick of waiting. Those Transogram games don't show up much anymore in our wilds - that, or the flashlight and headlamp crowd is beating me to them, but that's not what they're mostly hunting...
  11. Oh, I know that the Indian patch was the top dog, but that's one thing I don't collect. I ride, but I don't collect. And the Putnam dye cabinet is tops as well. Those have been pricey since I was a teen and an oddball young admirer of general store advertising. Of course, they haven't gone up like the Avon one-shots, but I was born a little too late on stuff like reverse-painted whiskey signs and the like.
  12. A really cool assortment! Love that Capt. Marvel puzzle as well as the Felix game. I still need a Merry Milkman to go with my Fearless Fireman and Police Patrol. p.s. I could never sell 99% of the items pictured! I guess I'm a little bit of a hoarder. Of course, many of these may be doubles, especially the Mad game. And I would never sell the built-up Spidey model: the box displays WAY too well.
