  1. I know I'd be nervous taping the two covers together on a Detective 27! If you use that mega-archival bookbinders tape, you can barely see it, but like most tape, you get one shot at doing it clean.
  2. I don't know if this qualifies, as it's a touch more - dare I say - grotesque in its rendering:
  3. I think the consensus range seems about right, but we've all seen books with yellowing/dust shadows on the cover rate in the 9's as well as books with foxing (also in the 9's). Now, your soiling is admittedly more severe than those examples, but there was a time where the Overstreet grading guidelines explicitly stated than and tanning/browning or dust shadows on the cover meant no better than VG. I guess it remains the case that a book with an accumulation of small defects still seems easier to grade than a better presenting book with a more major defect.
  4. Oh, I didn't think you were trying to upstage him at all. His "junkpile" appears epic just like yours. Just two passionate and accomplished collectors sharing their goodness. Now if Malcolm Forbes was still around and threw his Marklins into the fray, we might have a different story. Still, though, I think I prefer Mortimer Snerd to lead soldiers, but I digress. Speaking of the pre-Mad stuff, is the origin of that Alfred-prototype known and agreed upon or mired in uncertainty? I mean, even Uncle Sam himself as a symbol has a few different versions, so I'm guessing it's no different.
  5. And when we did use early boards, they were almost invariably shirt cardboard.
  6. Great assortment of goodies as usual, Robot Man, and a admirable rebuttal to Ghastly's mind-blowing post. There was a cigar box too - Billy O'Riley, I think - in the same vein. I don't own one, but I know I have a pic somewhere...
  7. Truly a "holy cr@p" experience seeing this much quality this well photographed and presented. I will undoubtedly refer back to the post many, many times to drink deep of this delicious nectar. Thanks!!
  8. Take all four for $40 just for the Louise Altson illos
  9. I'll take the pulps if the Marvel Stories is complete
