  1. Great MAD stuff!!! I am a huge fan. You definitely went above and beyond and picked up that pre-mad Alfred E-. Neuman stuff. I noticed that you have the old shirt. Have you had the chance to pick up the straight jacket too?
  2. Since we are not talking about Jessica Drew anymore from the original thread typo, I am now very happy that they chose someone whom I did not want as Jessica Drew. I don't know about the actual Jessica Jones character so I can only hope that the actress can fit the role.
  3. I can't believe Sandman is 25 years old. Thanks for the reminder....
  4. What Mad Magazine item do you find to be rather common but still demands a high price (or higher price than you are willing to pay)?
  5. Years ago I bought some Mad Magazine stuff from Abe Vigoda. At least that was the name/screen name of the person. I didn't realize until years later that it is a name of an actor. I will never know if it was really him. Back when yahoo used to have auctions I bought a comic to a person whose name was Kandy Corn (maybe it was Candy Korn)
  6. My pick is superficial as I have not seen the shows mentioned. I am going completely by, who can fill the suit and should look like they can look the part. Since I see Spider-woman more so with the costume on I think Alexandra Daddario would fit Spider-woman's physique. I think that Mike Colter is closer to whom I would imagine would play Luke Cage. However, out of the 2 LC choices, they seem kind of small in their pictures compared the comic character.
  7. Not going to read over all 185 pages of this thread. I picked a short run of these comics up about a month ago at a book sale. I hope that these are good comics and not just super collectible at the moment.
  8. I have been playing Magic for about 20 years and may be able to assist you. While there are a lot of cards that are worth something there are a ton that are not. If these cards are arranged in a book/binder with sleeves it really makes things easy to take a picture per page or video of the pages being flipped. If you have this capability I can take a look to see if I can help you. If you don't then here are some helpful things to do Recognize set symbols http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/tcg/article.aspx?x=magic/rules/faqs There are sets where the set symbol is black (common) Silver (uncommon) Gold (Rare) and Red (mythic rare). The rare and Mythic rares 99% of the time are worth something. There are older sets that do not use that coloring for the set symbol and it gets more difficult. However if you type in the cards in this search engine it will work for you. http://www.mtgsalvation.com/cards This link I provided gives you a list of cards that are valued between $1 and $50,000. http://www.mtgsalvation.com/cards?filter-price-min=1.00&filter-price-max=50000 I may be interested in these cards if that is the goal of your co-worker. Good luck and let me know if you need anything. Just send a PM. Thanks!
  9. While we know of the many pedigree comics that have been around I am curious about one thing... Back then there were no bags and boards, do we know how these pedigree comics were stored? My guess is a regular looking filing cabinet.
  10. You do know that a long long time ago there was supposed to be a Bone cartoon?
  11. In the Washington D.C. area there is Barbarian Books is one of the early ones. Even though I am not as old, I hear that it opened up in the early 70's or late 60's.
  12. I think #60 is the official version of the team as a team. It is best to just get both comics to be on the safe side
  13. Awesome find. I probably would be one of those people who would have taken the extra set out and tried to frame it or something.
  14. As soon as I find a copy the bubble will burst. I will keep you all informed at my findings. Now back to you regularly scheduled program...
  15. Well I'll be darned I can actually be part of a club on these boards. Got it this past summer. Working on getting it slabbed at the moment. 2014-09-06 09.56.42 by phantalien, on Flickr
  16. I will give you guys credit, I would never ever go after price variants unless the price was really cheap. Here is a new comic to add to this forum... Taped on the inside cover. It still looks nice. I am happy to get a copy like this as I am sure I got it for a good price. P1030259 by phantalien, on Flickr
  17. Here is another comic issue. I have not busted out my magazines yet. Gonna go with the classics. This is my earliest issue. I would have gotten earlier but some of the copies I saw and could afford were not appealing to the eye. Someday I will finish it... P1030258 by phantalien, on Flickr
  18. Yeah I remember seeing that stuff on ebay recently. There was also a glut of the MAD board games sealed on ebay. Around 3-5 copies. Seems a bit too suspicious to me. I am starting to liquidate some of my collection of MAD items. I have two 12" statues from spencers in their boxes that will be listed over time. I think my dad would really appreciate me getting that stuff out of my old room.
  19. Just noticed this thread. I am a huge MAD fan and was a serious collector of it more so than comics. I made some scans of my early issues, which I am going to get CGC graded for no particular reason other than they are my best looking issues for the early comics and early magazine. Let's start with #23 P1030280 by phantalien, on Flickr
  20. Wow! It took a while but I finally got through this thread. It is awesome!!!! Marty, were there any particular comics that you wanted from the newsstands but when you returned with enough money you could not find them anymore?
  21. True... But MAD #30 is the first true Alred E. Neuman cover where it prominently features his goofy visage. It was also a Norman Mingo cover too. Tie that in with it being the last of the MADs to have that awesome cover border always made #30 a bit more expensive than the other magazines except #24.
  22. Mad #24 the first magazine version of what was a previous comic To a lesser extent Mad # 30 the first to feature Alfred E. Neuman on the cover as opposed to a small appearance, which I believe was issue #27 or #29.
  23. At the time, I loved the MAD stuff for everything in the book, the other EC titles I loved for the cover art, which is still the best cover art ever... P1030269 by phantalien, on Flickr
  24. However, they were a lot cheaper to pick up compared to the other EC titles... P1030271 by phantalien, on Flickr
