  1. Earlier this week, I was on the Metropolis website and saw a book I was interested in purchasing. There was a BIN price and a "make an offer" option. In order to make an offer, I had to enter all my information, to include credit card information. I made the offer and Metropolis immediately sent what I assume was an automated message saying that they were giving themselves 2 days to review the offer. The two days came and went and I have not heard back from them. They did not accept or reject my offer. They did not counter the offer. They simply ignored me. I spoke with another collector who indicated he had the same experience with Metropolis in the past. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with the Metropolis "make an offer" option OR is this just somethign they put in, so they can then list the "highest offer" under the book and try to entice others to pay full asking. IMO it is rude not to respond to potential customers and a sign of poor customer service. Given this lack of customer service, I personally would not want to utilize Metropolis to sell my books. On a positive note, I also made an offer on a book on the Superworld website. Ted and his crew responded in less than 24 hours. They even provided me with additional photos. Kudos to the team @Superworld
  2. I waited to give others the chance, however, with only 2 days left, I am going to assume there will be enough slots for everyone who wants in. Mike, Please add me to the list of those participating. Thank you.
  3. I know I am a little late to the show, however, I am hoping all will forgive me; I did not see this thread until a couple days ago. Then I had to consider the OP's request and what would be my "Top 3". Upon contemplating this, however, I realized that I was going to have to slightly amend @NewWorldOrder's initial request in which he asks, "Show the comic board community your Top 3 Comic Book and/or Original Art purchases for your collection for the year ending 2023!" The amendment to this will be editing the word "purchases" to read "acquistions". For me, my top 3 are not books I purchased but rather books that I acquired through friendships. For many, their "Top 3" are likely the books others have somehow attributed with having a higher "market value". For me, however, comic book collecting is about the feelings I get when I look at or hold a particular book. It is not about the "market value", but rather about the personal satisfaction I get. Sometimes a low value, well read book, will bring me much joy as it brings back fond memories of days gone by. Other times, a certain book will just catch my eye. Finally there are those books that others have given me. These books are perhaps the most precious of all (regardless of "FMV"), because they remind me of the love of others and the bonds formed throughout the years. Comics books are but paper, but relationships are about people. I say all this, to say this year I have chosen my Top 3 to be books which others have given me this past year. They are my top three as I fondly remember those people from whom the books were received. I will put them in the order they were received (not in any other order of preference). Please forgive the scanner glare on the final book (in person the book is beautiful). The second book was given to me for being awarded one of the "Formite of the Year" awards. Thank you to the forum for that; I was and am still very humbled by this award (there are so many others who deserved it more).
  4. This morning brought with it two things.... 1) SNOW 2) A text from the Post Office letting me know that the mystery box from @topcat54 had arrived. Although I grew up in New England and am very familiar with driving in the snow, I know that many other drivers seem to lose any driving skills they once possessed once the first white flake hits the ground. Still, I was anxious to retrieve my prize and so I cleared the driveway and headed out. Upon arriving at the Post Office, the girl behind the counter handed me a very heavy box (much heavier than expected). I wasn't sure if TC had packed bricks or what. I made it back to the car and decided I could not wait to get home before opening the box (confession - patience may be a virtue I clearly am in short supply of possessing). Upon opening the box, I was shocked at all the great items TC had included. He was very generous and even included a book from 1947 (my favorite of everything in the box). When I arrived home my wife located a pair of 3d glasses so as to properly read the 3D Superman book). Below are a few photos. Many thanks to TC for the great mystery box!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I rarely ever send books in for grading, due to the time needed to get books back (I feel sick when I ship my books off and waiting to get them back is just too much for my limited patience). That being said, I received the below book for Christmas and am considering sending it in for grading. I know more photos/scans would be helpful, however, this is what I have available right now. Thank you in advance for taking a look and letting me know your thoughts...
  6. Ended up finding a few more comics under the tree to go with the Airboy posted above. Perhaps I should ask for photography lessons for Christmas, as these books look far better in person without the shadows and glare.
  7. I have not opened all my gifts yet (as we tend to spread Christmas out for the entire week), however, I did open this gift last night. Please forgive the poor photography....
  8. Other than the same Golden Age that everyone else seems to be looking for, I am also looking for a copy of Action Comics 247. If anyone has a copy they would like to part with, it would be greatly appreciated.
  9. I tried, however, unfortunately, I am not much of a photographer and I did not have anyone with me to hold the alternate light source (to avoid shadows).
  10. Congrats to all the players, to all the winners, and a huge THANK YOU to Dr X for another great contest this year!!!!
  11. 1 minute left if anyone has a literally last minute guess....
  12. With less than 45 minutes to go, DR X now has 63 players on the field. The spread remains the same with an over/under of 1,000. 31 guessing under 1,000 31 guessing over 1,000 1 guessing 1,000 The averages are Mean: 1,007.65 Median: $1,000 And here are the numbers....
  13. Dr X currently has 61 "players". 31 have guessed below $1,000 and 30 have guessed $1,000 or more. Mean Average: $999.60 Median Average: $995.01
  14. 52 Wild and Crazy Guesses thus far.....PLEASE keep them coming.....
  15. Updated Spreadsheet... Mean Average: $969.97 Median Average: $979.79
  16. My outrageous guess is $1,300.00 Spreadsheet coming up....
