  1. I tend to agree with you here. I am a big fan of free speech and believe that Disney and other companies should be allowed to put out content as they deem appropriate. I also believe that we have an absolute right to turn the TV off or choose not to spend money to see their movies. It is unfortunate that Disney chooses to go down that road, but regretably these are the times in which we live. I am dating myself here, however, I remember when Disney put out their first PG movie (good trivia question) in 1979 and how offended people were. Now, people would laugh if anyone was upset by a PG movie. I find that writers put the "F" word in for "shock value", however, in truth it is typically the result of poor writing; an inability to express something without relying on the use of overused, single syllable cuss words? It is sad that writers are incapable of creating the desired effect without falling back to this (over and over again); perhaps a comment on our eduacation system - IDK. Just my 2 cents (which is probably worth far less than that in today's world).
  2. I think one other thing we can look at is how many copies are for sale. I just did a quick search on eBay and found the following. Action 242 3 raw copies (2 with covers and 1 without) 16 slabbed (15 CGC and 1 other) 19 Total Books Action 252 3 raw copies 30 slabbed (24 CGC and 6 other) This leads me to believe that you may be correct in that there are more copies of 252 in existence than copies of 242. After all there are almost 58% more 252s for sale than 242s (at least on eBay - which I think is a good indicator). I wonder, however, what this does to the overall model. In the case of 242, we can say that 16 out of 19 books were slabbed or more than 84%. In the case of 252 the number is even higher with 30 out 33 being slabbed or almost 91%. I agree that people selling books have more of an incentive to grade them than those not selling them, so I don't think 91% of ALL 252s are slabbed, however, I question if when looking at a key book like that the multiple should really be at 3 (suggesting only 1/3 or 33.3% of the total copies have been slabbed). Just some "food for thought" or perhaps another piece of data that could help us narrow down what the actual numbers are.
  3. I appreciate your analysis of this and for taking the time to write out the logic behind your conclusions. I was especially interested in your thoughts on Actions from the late 50's. I see you estimate Action 252 at 3,000. I think it is interesting that Action 242 has only 565 graded copies as opposed to 1,131 for Action 252. Given these books are both "keys", simialar in value, and were printed less than a year apart, I would think the print runs were approximately the same and the survival rate about the same. Would you put Action 242 also at 3,000? I am curious if you believe the fact that Supergirl being introduced and put on the cover may have changed the survival rate. Did more females buy this book or more males keep it? IDK. For a long time, I have always thought that Actions from the late 50's had an upward survival rate of about 2,000, however, I appreciate your reasoning and obvioulsy I could be mistaken. Thank you again, for your thoughts and step by step logic. Well done.
  4. Any chance you will be putting up what appears to be an America's Best #27 (seen in the top right corner of the photos)????
  5. I tend to agree. I am just wondering if anyone has actually purchased one of these and proved it to be fake. Or if someone knows for a fact that, for one reason or another, that these cannot be "real" (what he claims them to be)?
  6. I noticed this person selling what he claims is original transparencies used in the production of comics. I am more than a bit skeptical and a quick search shows that there has been at least some discussion of this eBay seller here on the boards. Can anyone say for sure if what this person is selling is "fake" or "not what he claims"? Seems strange that this person seems to continually have these up for auction - an almost endless supply. IDK.
  7. @Buzzetta Thank you for taking the time to write this up and attempting to keep the boards "safe".
  8. Thank you for your service. This country is here because of people like you Great photos.
  9. Would like to read this. I know the art would be great.
  10. Yes, unfortunately many great books have moved to the overpriced auctioned venues. Happy to see some board members still offering cool stuff here. Thank you, Sharon. In fact, I purchased my Katy #1 here on the boards, thanks to a boardie who offered it here first.
  11. I agree. I know it is not politically correct to say or perhaps even suggest this, however, at some point people have to take responsibility for their own actions or lack of actions. Mike works hard to run a fun and fair contest. He gives people 4 days to submit their grades. I know we all get busy and forget things. I also know that this contest is probably not the top priority in anyone’s life. However, with all that being said, I think adding further responsibility to Mike (by having him go through all the people in the contest and send out reminders) is not really equitable to Mike (who is already trying to do a good thing). Giving people 96 hours to “remember” to send in grades seems very reasonable to me. Again, I may be in the minority here with my politically incorrect view regarding people taking responsibility for things, but I guess I will just have to live with that; old fashion as I am.
  12. Sorry. Submitted. Can't help you with the other 29 people (I can only hope these are people at the top of the charts who have decided to drop out and give the rest of us a chance)
  13. Well if 19 people fail to submit each round, maybe I have a chance. Two bullseyes this round - Not great, but could be worse.
  14. Dave and Roger, I do not know either of you personally. As far as I know, I have not purchased books from either of you (although given the number of books I have purchased in my life, it is possible I have and I just don't remember it). That being said, I hope you both can work this out on your phone call today. If you cannot then I suggest that you both agree to binding arbitration as follows. 1) Arbitration should be done by a 3 person board whose decision is final. 2) The board should be made up of 3 mutually agreed upon people. In a perfect world these 3 people should be as follows.... a) Long Standing Board Members in good standing (How long they have to have been on the boards is up to you. Obviously no one on any of the "lists") b) Preferably board members who do not have a personal relationship with either of you. c) Preferably board members who have not done business with you in the past (who may have either a positive or negative recollection of those transactions). I know this may be difficult to find as you both have likely done business with many board members. d) Board Members who are generally well respected on the boards. No one is probably liked by everyone, however, we all know that some board members tend to get into arguments and disagreements more than others; those should be avoided. e) Board Members who have not already given strong opinions in this thread already (as they already now have a publicly expressed bias toward one side or the other). I understand that finding three willing Board Members who are willing to come together and arbitrate this (and who fit ALL of the above) could be challenging. I think the above would be the "gold standard". If, however, you could find 3 people who fit MOST of the above and who you both could agree on, then that would be acceptable. Both of you should then present any opinions or evidence that you have to the 3 members, allow them to ask questions as needed, and then agree to be totally bound by their decision. I trust both of you to keep your word and to be bound by the outcome. The 3 members should hear all arguments, weigh the evidence, discuss among themselves what is the best resolution and then within 30 days or less, provide that decision to Roger and Dave. The final outcome does not need to be disclosed to the boards in public. This should be the end of the situation with neither Dave or Roger bringing it up on the Forum again (in a negative way), as to preserve the reputations of all involved. This is simply my opinion. Again, I have nothing against either of you and I hope you find resolution and peace.
  15. Very nice of you to send this out, otherwise, I would have missed out (as I did last time). Please put my name in the barrel of contestants (not that I am any serious threat to any decent graders out there, but I do enjoy the game). Thanks to Crops068 for giving me the "heads up" and to Mike for organizing.
  16. Final update Reholder Shipped 08/07/2021 Received back 03/31/2022 That makes 236 Days What a waste of time and $$$$
  17. This week's fun and exciting update.... Reholder Shipped 08/07/2021 Today 03/24/2022 229 days and waiting. Approximately 19,785,600 seconds and still waiting. 3 more days and I should pass the 20,000,000 seconds mark. Feels like 20,000,000 years. Customer Service rating - F
  18. Reholder Shipped 08/07/2021 Today 03/15/2022 220 days and waiting. Approximately 19,008,000 seconds and still waiting. I am beginning to wonder if the OP is still waiting on the books he submitted back in 2012.
  19. It seems to me that IF the TRT is long, but does not really change much as time moves forward, then that means they are able to process as much stuff per day as they get in. If that is the case, then it would seem like a wise move to pay folks to work weekends or something to get the TRT down. Once they were down, they should stay that way (since we already determined they can process approximately what they take in each day). You would think this would increase the number of people willing to send books in. I know I rarely send books in and the #1 reason is because of the TRT. The only reason I can see for keeping long TRTs is 1) To make people think you are really popular and in high demand (which they should no have to prove at this point or 2) To get people to folk over more $$$$ to fast track things. Make the normal wait so unbearble that people feel complelled to pay the extra money, just so tehy can get their books back in their own life times and not simply in time for their children to inherit them.
  20. Reholder Shipped 08/07/2021 Today 03/08/2022 213 days and waiting. Approximately 18,403,200 seconds and still waiting. Not waiting patiently; just waiting.......
