  1. That looks like a great haul to me!!! Congrats on picking up some awesome books.
  2. Hope its not the Actions 4 and 5 I want some of your doubles if you get them. hahaha - Those were not the books I was referring to, HOWEVER, I did look hard at those and the Action #9. The #9 would actually interest me the most as that is the only one of the 3 that I only own 1 copy of. Recently, however, I read another board member's comment that he was willing to trade off one of his copies of a rare book, because he did not think it was "right" to hoard copies, and another board member was interested in it. That spoke to me. I am not trading off any of my copies just yet, but perhaps I don't need to buy up more single digit Actions (right now) that others would also enjoy. I must admit, however, those books are tempting and temptation does sometimes get the best of me. .
  3. Robotman, Thanks for an awesome read and photos. Looking at the photos, I saw one or two books that caught my eye and may cause me to "follow up" with the dealer in question. Thanks again for taking time to share this with everyone.
  4. Robotman, I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your sig line. It is a nice variety of awesomeness! Every time I see one of your posts, it seems I have to pause for a second to enjoy the view of your sig line. Nice job.
  5. In this day and age of the internet, just about ANY book can be eventually found IF one has enough cash. This is NOT like when I first starting collecting and you went to conventions or waited for paper catalogs to come in the mail, hoping to find that book you were looking for. With the internet, finding that book has become easier. Unfortunately, I think the internet has also driven up the price of many of the rarer books. That being said, I have a whole in my collection. Action #1. If I had unlimited funds, I am sure I could buy a copy. Given I am not Donald Trump (), I am trying to find a LOW grade that will at least fill the hole. Trying to find a LOW grade copy is more of a challenge. It seems most of these are either hidden away or have been restored. I would accept a heavily restored copy, however, not at the same price point as an unrestored copy in the same grade. So in my case, I suppose it is a very limited supply problem, coupled with a good (but not unlimited) budget problem.
  6. Kav, My Comic Shop has a CGC 6.0 for $75.
  7. This question is easy..... Action Comics #1.
  8. I think you picked up a great looking book. Congrats.
  9. If you are NOT going to bid on the book, you should contact eBay immediately and let them know this is stolen property. Get them to at least stop the auction.
  10. Slight change would be get a friend with a different address (since he will likely see you and refuse to complete the deal) to win the book. Iceman took the words right out of my mouth. Those were my thoughts exactly. At this point the IMO the sketch is stolen property and you should strive to recover it.
  11. This does NOT seem to jive with the PM we just saw posted. Swagacorn, the verdict is in. Time for you to do the right thing.
  12. B&B 28. Great book. Great taste. The following is just my opinion, so take it for what it is worth. If you think I am an insufficiently_thoughtful_person, then you are probably not alone in your thoughts. I have been called worse. Here is how I see it. Collecting (comic books or anything else) is about more than just seeing which books (or other items) you can accumulate. If your goal is simply to accumulate a room (or house) full of books, than your collecting ambition is one that I pity (for you will have missed the joy of the hobby and will never be satisfied). Collecting is about being able to look at a book and have it bring a warm feeling to you. Perhaps it brings back a childhood memory of a book you read as a child. Perhaps the artwork stirs something in your soul. Perhaps there is a story behind how you found it, or the guy that sold it to you. Perhaps it is holding the grail that you saved 3 years to buy. Perhaps it is a lot of things, but the important thing is that it brings you some measure of happiness. In the years to come, when you look at or hold this B&B 28, that you now have, what memories will it bring? Will they be happy memories or will there always be something in your gut that tells you, that you did the wrong thing (every time you look at it)? I don't know about you, but if I spent 3 years of my life saving for a book, I would want it to be one that I could proudly display (without shame). I would want it to be one that I could hold in my hand and get a feeling inside that made the cost seem insignificant. I am proud of the collection of books I have. I am proud that I earned each and every one of them. I am proud that I never lied or cheated to obtain any of them. I am proud of my name in the collecting field and on these boards. My name and my reputation mean far more to me than any of these books. Swagacorn, when you look into the mirror, what do you see? Are you happy with the person looking back at you? Are you proud of that person? Do you want to be proud of that person? Swagacorn, when you look at that B&B 28, how does it make you feel inside? Does it give you the feeling you thought you would have? Will that book ever give you that feeling (knowing how you obtained it by breaking your word with a fellow collector)? Everyone makes mistakes. No one walks on water. I have made more than my share of mistakes. When we make mistakes, however, it is our duty to make them right in any way that we can. Contact Iceman and figure out how you can make it right. Perhaps then you will feel better when you look into the mirror. Perhaps then you will be able to hold that grail up without shame. There is never a wrong time to do the right thing.
  13. I am not sure why this is even still up for discussion, however, I do have 2 questions. 1) Iceman, can you give us more details about this deal. If not the name of the book, could you at least provide how much the deal was for? I am just curious how much a it takes to make Swagacorn lose all honor. Obviously the simple solution here is for Swagacorn to pay you for the book as agreed. Since he seems to think this book is going up in value, you would think he would jump at the opportunity. 2) Swagacorn, how did you find some guy at a local shop to buy the book from after you made an agreement with Iceman? Since you made an agreement with Iceman, why did you not pay him immediately? If you had paid him the moment the deal was done (as you should have), you would have had no opportunity to continue to "shop around". I too am new to the boards. I believe I made my first deal when I had a posting # of 4. The board member accepted me as a fellow board member and I had the item I purchased within a day or two of making the deal. It felt so good to deal with an honorable person who loves the hobby (as I do). I was hooked. Last night another board member contacted me and offered me a book. I made a counteroffer on the book. He sent me a PM saying he accepted my counteroffer. Upon reading that, I IMMEDIATELY went to PayPal and sent the funds. I did not leave him on the hook while I shopped around for a better deal. Once I read that he had accepted my counteroffer, the deal was DONE and I paid immediately (as you should have done). Swagacorn, you need to make this right. Buy the book from Iceman and move forward. Be a person of honor and keep your word. Nothing is worth losing your honor over and being known as a liar and a cheat.
  14. Why is this a discussion? Swagacorn violated the rules. More importantly, by his own admission, he refuses to honor his word. Put him on the PL and be done with it. The boards should be reserved for people with honor.
  15. Those are some great covers. Thanks for sharing.
  16. I can definitely see johnnywadd's point of view. He thought it was a done deal and missed out on something he was willing to purchase at the negotiated price. Unfortunately, since the seller stated he wanted a return PM to confirm the deal, that condition then becomes a part of the "contract". For a contract to exist there must be "an offer, an acceptance, and consideration". The "offer" made by the seller was to sell the book for a given price IF they received a PM from Johnnywadd confirming the deal. Since Johnnywadd did not respond before the "offer" was withdrawn, I have to side with the seller. That being said, I think there are important lessons to be learned here. 1) It would be NICE if a seller wants a PM to confirm, that he give the buyer a certain time limit to respond (and tell the buyer what that time frame is). This is not a must, but would be NICE, all the way around to avoid this problem in the future. 2) Time waits on no one. Sellers are looking to move books. If you really want something, you need to act fast. Although, I do not think the "seller" did anything wrong, my sympathy goes out to Johnnywadd. There is almost nothing worse than losing out on a deal you think is done and are looking forward to. This is the curse of being a collector.
  17. I am with you Kav. I remember the first time I saw OA at a convention. I thought to myself, "who wants that stuff"? I wanted complete books, not one page from a book. The pages were "cheap" (although I don't recall the exact prices), I remember they were nothing too over the top. Obviously, I missed the boat on that one as well. Seems I have missed a lot of boats along the collecting path. Thankfully, I did not pass up all the good ones.
  18. I have not sold a lot of books, but I can think of countless books I turned down throughout the years that I wish I had purchased now. I remember many years ago seeing a beat copy of AF #15 on the wall of a local comic shop. It had a sign on it saying "World's Worst Copy", and was marked $25. It was in pretty bad shape, but for $25 who cares what shape it is in. It was still an AF #15. That same shop later got in an Action #1, which I called the owner to see if I could make a deal on. I had recently purchased several early Actions from him and so I figured he would work with me. I did not reach him on the phone that day and then I got busy and did not think to call him again until it was too late. My stomach is in knots right now, just thinking back on these two examples. There are many others. Opportunities lost.
  19. These are fantastic books. I really appreciate you taking the time to post these for all to enjoy. Congrats on an awesome collection.
  20. I can say first hand that I ordered one of these covers and it arrived within 2 days. You can't ask for faster service than that. Great to do business with.
