  1. Can you tell me if there is a Portuguese version of this book (AC247)? I also have a Nembo Kid 152 (which I believe to be in Italian). Are Portuguese books "full size" or are they more like "digest size" (like my Nembo Kid 152)?
  2. I am speechless. What an awesome book to give away!
  3. Rick is a great person! Solid move letting that Archie go.
  4. Yes, my friend, there were several board members (including you and Primetime (who first told me about the copy for sale last year)) who were routing for me. In the "aftermath" of the deal falling apart, I drew a lot of strength and encouragement from those on the board who had been cheering for me. I owe each of them many thanks. At this point, like you, I have pretty much given up on the AC1 (unless one just falls out of the sky and lands on me). I am happy with the issues I have and consider myself blessed. I hope you can find yourself a #7, for a "reasonable" price, before too long . It is amazing (and IMO unfortunate) how much the 7 has risen in value. I understand that it is Superman's second cover appearance, however, it is hard to imagine how that makes it worth so much more than the issues around it. Perhaps I am bias as I enjoy the non Superman covers. I would think an AC2 (Superman's second appearance) would be worth more than a 7, but the market does not seem to agree.
  5. Yes, Harold, there are a line of people wanting an AC1 (even a rag like that one). In the case of the book shown, there was only one guy in line (besides me), when it came up for sale. Unfortunately for me, even though he was behind me in line and I offered to buy first, the seller still sold to the other guy, instead of me (as the other guy was a long time customer and I was a nobody with cash). Maybe neither one of us are destined to own a copy.
  6. Not as much as I would have hoped for. I got back to my hotel room late and found several of the best picks gone. That is the way it is with Rick's threads. He has great stuff and prices them fairly. One must be quick on the drawer or out of luck.
  7. I can certainly appreciate what you area saying about wanting a good looking book. In MOST cases I might tend to agree with you and I am rather certain I am in the minority here, but I would take even this rag copy of AC1.... Over even this simply stunning copy of AF15...... Provided it was solely for my personal collection (not for resale value). Clearly the AF15 is worth more $$$$ on the market (and is a much better lookin book), but I am just a simple collector and so the FMV is not what I am looking at. To me, there is simply no substitute for the king of comics, AC1. (please note that neither of the books shown belong to me).
  8. Is this auction still going? The title says it ends at midnight on 08/09.
  9. Perhaps I am missing something. Please forgive my ignorance. It seems that someone is doing the buying, selling, shipping, setting up at conventions, etc. is that person going to be you or rather is at least ONE of those people going to be you? If the answer is yes, then would you bestowing a paycheck for all this work and taking that "pay" off the top, before putting the rest into the profit pile to be divided by the owners (perhaps paid out as dividends or whatever)? This is a key question. If you are doing all this work, then I would think you would expect more for your efforts than a person who just throws some cash in the pot. By the same token, an investor needs to know that this "salary" would be reasonable enough so that they would still see a fair profit.
  10. The BIG question is.... Are you drawing a paycheck BEFORE dividing any potential profits?
  11. This is a good point, William. I am always interested in a single digit Action, however, Rick often puts other books up that wet my appetite. His taste in books is outstanding. I hope you are well, my friend.
  12. My watch says it is 330, Rick.
  13. I am curious as to why you refer to "flippers" as "dirtbags" and "speculators" as "scumbags"' Please note that I do not take personal offense at either of these terms as I am not a comic dealer, seller, flipper or speculator. I am just a humble collector with a modest collection. I do not, however, begrudge anyone who is buying books in hopes of making a profit. If no one ever did this, then chances are my collection would be smaller than it is, as I have likely purchased from many "flippers" who found books that I was unaware of and then made them available to me. As for Whitmans, I do not collect them, however, I am certain I have a number of them that I acquired "back in the day". I did not buy them because they were Whitmans, I just bought them to read. As for putting down what others collect, I find that strange. There are many things that I do not collect, however, I am happy that other people collect them and that they find some joy in adding a piece to their collection. There are also many things that I do not collect, however, when I see someone else's collection, I can admire the time and sacrifice they put in to putting it together. If we all collected the same thing, I believe the world would perhaps be a little less special.
  14. To be fair, however, I think I would also take a pass on this book ESPECIALLY given the fact the OP wants to "flip" it. Not sure there is enough (if anything) left to make a flip profitable. If he wanted it as a "keeper" and that is all he could afford, then that would be a different story.
  15. I remember well the night you sold that PL17. I was working, got back to my hotel, logged in , and was VERY disappointed I had missed picking that up.
