  1. “Whether you are a collector, investor or just a fan, I invite you all to enjoy my collection at this amazing auction preview. I built this collection to honor the legends behind and on the pages. Now it is time for me to share the collection with the next generation. I hope you will appreciate and safeguard it as much as I have” shares owner, Jon Berk. Well, I for one would to "safeguard" that Action 1. The problem is that if I spent the kind of $$$$ that would require, someone would have to "safeguard" me from a wife who might do me serious harm.
  2. Let us know if you decide NOT to pull the trigger and let us know where we can go shopping.
  3. There are so many negatives in this sentence, that I am unsure what it means.
  4. Thank you. I decided to go eat and then come back to see if this was still here. The temptation was building, and I was cracking. Thanks, Golddust, for removing this very tempting book.
  5. I was very surprised to see that 33 at that price point. I am hoping someone jumps on it soon, to keep me from being further tempted. Jimbo always brings out great books.
  6. I think this is about right. Of course, when it comes to auctions, one never knows. If two big players want the same book then things can get crazy. Given recent auction prices, however, on this book (which are few), I think this is a reasonable estimate.
  7. Good one, Sir. If I had missed out on an AC1 for $42K in any grade, I think I would be beside myself. Good to know I didn't miss any other single digits. I really need to start remembering when these Clink auctions are. Seems I only find out about them when I log onto the boards and see people posting their wins.
  8. Thanks Harold. Were there any other single digit Actions up for bid?
  9. Nice pick up, Rick. First Planet I ever bought was a 56. One of my favorite covers.
  10. This is my first post in the "new forum". I have to disagree with Ben here on FMV. Given a conserved 7.0 AC7 sold in the CC auction for $40,500, just two month ago, I don't think a restored 3.0 would warrant $35K - $45K. I could be wrong. Harold, I hope you find yourself that elusive copy you are looking for. I know you miss having one. I completely missed the beginning of the recent CLink auction. I thought someone said an AC7 sold on that, but I don't know grade or price. Is there a way to research what books sold for on CLink? Or does anyone know what (if any) single digit Actions went for?
  11. Didn't a 9.8 copy of this sell back in May for $26? On what planet is an ungraded (seller claims 8.0) worth $1,000?
  12. I think we all know your right Cav but he said he mix up the price his wrong. Is the book woth an X $100 bucks I think that should get the deal to go thru unless book has been resold Although I understand that you are just trying to get the deal done, Harold, I think it would be a poor precedent to set if we start allowing sellers to hold books "hostage" for more money after they have been sold. There is a principle involved here that goes FAR beyond $$$$. IMO
  13. I can understand and respect this decision. I have often struggled with what comics I should and should not collect. For example...my wife is not thrilled when I buy any GGA. Should I continue to collect these books? IDK. This does not change my mind on the more important issue in this thread, however, I will say I applaud the OP's decision NOT to collect certain books that he feels are inappropriate for him to possess.
  14. It is strange and enlightening to read though this thread. There are people (like Doc Joe) who I have always found to be great board members. Just recently Doc provided an awesome review of the NY convention, that I (for one) truly appreciated. He took the time to provide not only info and photos of the convention, but I believe he also answered questions that board members had (like which booth had which book, etc). I consider Doc a valuable part of this community. I am in shock at his opinion in this incident. I still like Doc and appreciate his contributions to this community; just disagree with him on this one issue. Please do NOT get me wrong. I do not walk on water. I have my faults and they are numerous (just ask my wife). The ONE thing that means more to be than comics or money, however, is my word. It is who I am. It is what allows me to look in the mirror in the morning and not turn away in disgust. Maybe I am old fashion. Maybe the values I grew up with are antiquated in the new "all about me" world we seem to live in. Maybe I just don't understand. Either way, each man must make his own choice in life as to how he wants to live. As for me, I choose to be a man of my word. Not sometimes. Not most of the time. ALL the time. Without trust a man is left with nothing. Take the money. Take the comics. They are all just paper (I know that may be sacrilege around here, but not in my world). Paper is paper. Money is a cheap commodity that is easy made and easily lost. What is the value of a man's word? What value can a man put on the ability to say something and have EVERYONE who knows him, know, WITHOUT a doubt, that what he says is true? That, to me, is priceless. Again, I am not putting down the OP or Doc Joe. Each man chooses his own path in life and I would rather not judge anyone. Each man chooses his path and each man lives with the choices they make. I hope the OP changes his mind, swallows his pride, and chooses the path of honesty. In the end, however, it is his choice to make and to live with.
  15. This happens all the time, the wrong pricing. I priced some books at what I thought was a fair price and the next day one of those books went for more than the entire group on an auction site. It happens...but the same thing could happen in the other direction, I can ask X for a book, the buyer agrees and the next night, a similar copy goes for 1/2 the agreed price. After all, isn't MOST of this just guessing? No one knows what tomorrow might bring. I've made typos and honored them. It's not the other person's fault if you make a mistake. I just try to remember one thing...I'm a collector, and I want to treat others the way I'd like people to treat ME. I'm glad to hear you still have the book and you seem like someone who enjoys being here, why not just think it over tonight? I believe it will look different to you in the morning. Don't dig yourself into a hole over a "mistake". I'm sure you realize the shipping costs were a minor issue...and if the deal were in person, the two of you probably would have spent the $15 on a few beers afterwards (together). Just think it through without getting more upset than you need to. Erasing posts and blocking pms might have been a bit overzealous. I'm sure your reputation is valuable to you, or else you would not have gone as far as you have here. I am so glad people like Sharon are on these boards. Her wisdom and level headed approach to problems is like a breath of fresh air. Her willingness to do what it takes to solve problems (such as acting as an intermediary for this deal), is further evidence of the kind of person she is.
  16. Did something get deleted? I see where William posted the I'll take it and then Buttock is asking him if everything turned out ok. Am I missing some posts that should be between these??
  17. Chuck not only blames Amazon for his lack of sales (rather than admitting his problem is with pricing), but then goes as far as to plead with people to buy books from him, regardless of where he prices them. He says in part.... All of the above having been said, I sincerely thank you if you have continued to support us during 2016. It is only because of your kindness (and orders) that Mile High Comics can continue to exist, and that I can work to help you, and also the homeless here in Denver. If you have not placed an order with us this year, all I would ask is that you make some sort of conscious effort over this next year to provide us with at least a little bit of support. Please, buy an overpriced book and help the homeless today!
  18. Merry Christmas, Rick. May God bless you and your family this Christmas and always.
  19. I think this is a great idea, although I am guessing most people who have books restored (and I am NOT one of them), especially if they intend to resell the book, do not want to show the prospective buyer what it looked like before the restoration. Although I believe this is the best and fairest way to do business, I tend to think people who restore books might disagree. Showing before and after photos does not seem to be the norm in the world of comic collecting, even though it is very common in other forms of collecting (such as with antique vehicles). ...not sure how it is now.... but Matt Nelson used to include documentation paperwork with his resto work that included a list of all work done plus before and after pictures..... I once owned a Batman 11 (Apparent) 7.0 that had this.... pretty cool actually. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) Thanks for sharing this info, Jimbo. I did not know Matt did this. Hopefully sellers of such books would include the info and photos when selling.
