  1. That looks like a beauty of a 6.0. Congrats. One of my favorite Planet covers Mine too. In the recent poll (here on the boards) as to the best Planet cover, I am pretty sure I voted for 56. There are LOTS of great Planet covers, but that black cover and attractive girl just seals the deal.
  2. Here is my CGC 5.0. Very hard book to find in higher grade. That is VERY nice!!
  3. I also picked this one up this week. It is a CGC 6.0, but unfortunately the low quality picture does not do it justice and I could not get it to scan properly. I probably need to find out from other board members what a good scanner is for scanning books (both raw and slabbed).
  4. Nice enough though Thank you. I am not complaining. I am happy to have it. I just don't think it is the 5.0 it was advertised as. This should hold me over until I find something better. I think a true 6.0 would be nice. I am in no hurry. Hunting is fun. Thank you again.
  5. I received this one a few days ago. Not nearly as nice as Jimbo's copy or Rick's!
  6. Richard, Glad to see you posted photos of 2 of the recent Hangman pickups. I have been waiting to see you post these, since you showed them to me in Baltimore. Great books!
  7. I have to agree with you there, CJ. Oh yeah, and might I add that your copy (found on page 35 of this thread) is SPECTACULAR. As are many of the other books you posted here.
  8. Rick, I know you like women and rockets, so I this one is for you.
  9. Jimbo, Great story and awesome act of kindness by a fellow board member. Thanks for sharing. That is one awesome looking book. I bet you will treasure it as a keeper.
  10. +1.. anyone knows him personally or have his number who can call and check up on him? Hey guys, Thanks to all for your concern and well wishes. I'm glad a fellow boardie had his situation resolved. It's good to hear about good stories. On my end, my package has still not surfaced and I am currently awaiting the result of the claims process. As a collector, this entire ordeal has taken a lot out of me. I lost the centerpiece of my collection. Since then, a similar example sold on CC for over $6,400 -- putting FMV out of my spending range if another Action #1 Superman page came to the market. I'm praying that FedEx makes me whole on the $4,300 I spent to buy the page in the first place. On a non-comic note, it would help tremendously towards my recent medical expenses. As many of you know, I've long been a regular poster here on the boards. But given the events of the past 2 months, I've found it difficult to maintain my usual level of enthusiasm and spirit. Nevertheless, I'm hopefully optimistic that things will work out. Ryan, It was good to see you post again. You have been missed. Praying for you.
  11. Let me just put it out there. Your sig line makes me drool. There I said it. <3 Thank you, Dave. I honestly appreciate you saying that. I have been very blessed to have acquired some nice books along the way. For a long time, I did not use a sig line. Then I started advertising for an AC1 and it seemed very few members were taking me seriously. Thus, I dug out some of my single digit Actions and decided to put them in a sig line (just to let people know I was serious). Recently, I have considered changing my sig line or dropping it altogether. When someone says something kind about it, as you have, however, I begin to think maybe I should keep it as is. Either way, I really do appreciate you taking the time to say that. By the way, how is that old vehicle of yours doing? I would love to see that in person. The photos you posted a few months back were great, but there is nothing like seeing a vehicle like that first hand. That is awesome!
  12. How long ago was this and based upon the asking price, did it appear as if the store owner knew what he had? Most LCS's I know would definitely have books (actually photocopies only) like this on their wall behind their sales desk to keep the busy hands from lifting them out of the store. This was many years ago. Before such times as the internet made it possible to find virtually any book. They were probably priced fairly at the time. Back then MOST everyone priced by OSPG. Again, however, before the internet came along, it was all in the hunt for such rare treasures. Finding something like an AC17 or 18 (for OSPG price) in a LCS was a dream come true. Usually the only time I would even SEE such books would be at the once a year somewhat local comic convention.
  13. Bob, My apologies. This is the first poll I have done and I was having trouble figuring out how to get it to work. I kept thinking the poll was not there, because it did not show up in the "preview" section. It only showed up after I hit submit. I thought the words "Is it ok to walk out on a deal?", would be the title and I would then have a chance to further explain what exactly I was asking which is the more specific question. I would obviously agree it is okay to walk out of a deal BEFORE the two parties come to an agreement. Again, my apologies and thanks for taking the time to comment.
  14. Dave, I thought of that exact quote right before starting the poll. I remember seeing Scarface in the movies when it first came out and I always remembered and agreed with that quote. Thanks for your response.
  15. PLEASE READ THE POST BEFORE RESPONDING to understand question is referring to DONE deals. One in which an offer was made and accepted, or a book was auctioned and final hammer struck.,,,,,, A topic I have seen discussed a number of times in various threads is whether or not it is okay to walk away from a deal. For example, I have heard it said that if a seller sells a book (say on eBay) and then before they ship it they get a "better offer" from someone else, that it is okay to cancel the deal and sell to the other individual. I have even heard it said that after an eBay auction, an eBay seller should have every right not to send the book for what seems like any number of reasons (like plain deciding the "winning bid" did not meet his expectations, etc). I have to admit this concept is foreign to me. Then again, perhaps I am old. I still believe that a hand shake is a deal and a man's word is worth more than ANY amount of financial gain. Maybe, these ideals no longer have value in today's society. So I figured I would ask the following question.... Do you believe it is okay to walk away from a done deal (as either a buyer or seller) simply because a better offer comes along, OR you believe a better offer will come along?
  16. How is there ANY WAY that was damaged in shipping? If I were selling someone a couple 4 figure books, I would package them so well, it would take them a week just to unwrap. Even with poor packaging, however, I am not sure how that damage could have occurred. Postal should deny claim (which would allow you to keep the book, which is still a great looking book, albeit with a FMV substantially less than what the seller originally bargained for). I hope this all works out for you, Rick. I know you were really looking forward to these treasures.
  17. Thanks Hudson I AM proud & happy to have them, as well as the others I've managed to squirrel away I need to take a group shot like yours, which is AWESOME BTW BTW, KILLER story about getting them out of a bin at your LCS!!!! I mighta fainted Thank you. I have been blessed to grab up some nice early Actions along the way. (I assume you are talking about the sig line, not the other group shot I have a few pages back of 11 - 24). As for the LCS story, it wasn't a dollar bin, but they were still very affordable and I was not letting them out of my sight. I could not believe some little store had an AC17 and 18 just sitting in the bin. I don't recall there being any other Actions even close to that old in the bin (maybe only SA other than those two books). At the time, I don't know if I own any Actions under maybe #200, so those were like a dream come true. Really enjoy seeing your books posted here. You should do a group shot when you have time and have the books out. I often don't do too many photos as my photography "skills" are horrible and the photos usually look bad (grainy, dark, or the flash reflects off the Myler). Thanks again for the kind words about my books. I truly appreciate it.
  18. Anyone heard from Ryan (the OP of this thread) recently? He has not posted in over a month. Just want to make sure he is ok.
  19. Rick, Great looking book! As you know, I am a BIG fan of JJ25 and that is one awesome looking copy! Congrats!!!!
  20. Nice pick up. Nice looking book and not easy to find. Congrats.
  21. Frisco, Nice 17 & 18. Great books. The first two double digit Actions I ever owned were #17 & #18. I walked into a LCS and they had those two issues in their bin. I grabbed them both and they were the gems of my collection for a LONG time. Congrats on having some beautiful early Actions. You should be very proud!
