  1. It was the early eighties and I was having a bit of a hard time money wise so I brought two boxes full of comics to my local comic store to sell. Some of the titles were Hulk 181 Dr Strange 169 Spider-man 129 things like that that have gone up in price since, what did he tell me "These are rubbish!" and he then walked away laughing, I've never bought another book or anything from his rubbish shop again. The sad fact was I was buying hundreds of dollars from his store each year.
  2. I posted to some guy named Uatu It was a small island on the Moon. Seriously Australia or China.
  3. Advertise in advance around your surrounding area with flyers announcing when you are opening maybe offer the first 30 a free comic. As the above poster said I would use social media to the full, look for Youtube / Facebook channels that travel for comics and give them a discount. Also advertise that you are interested in buying collections that could bring you an odd treasure of a comic. I wish you well.
  4. More like Long John comic box! Aye lad me senses were a tingling.
  5. It's the space on the ground which annoys me the most...Get it filled!
  6. When you think about it Marvel was only interested in selling their product and the comics were worthless to them. It was the same with FOOM in the British comics as you had to cut out the stamp and send your money to join. Yes I was one of those kids and I hated cutting into MY comics, in fact that was the reason I found it easy to sell as I knew the stamps were missing.
  7. So officially I'm an art collector I can live with that. Now I can act all snobby to the other clientele in my local comic shop...Move Peasant that's my comic!
  8. Yes, stop them smoking cigarettes! Seriously I've seen some nice metal shelves posted in other threads good luck.
  9. I knew the answer to this years ago. It's all STUFF! Enjoy it for what it is and remember the most important thing, it is not worth what you paid for it in the beginning. If you follow this line of thinking then it is priceless.
  10. I'm more amazed you all have WALLS! Nice setup though.
  11. So it's basically inkjet printer colours? However I thought that people such as Marie Severin inked the pages before hand and used a number of colours, that's the question I wanted to know. Thank you for the reply unca Ben maybe I should have explained it a bit better.
  12. Four colour comics question I recently posted in the Golden age thread about a moment of madness were I had decided to ink my EC library volumes (on reflection NO) long story short leads to my question. I'm familiar with the term four colour comics, however how many colours were actually used? As it was EC I'm interested in can anyone let me know as I think this would be very interesting to know.
  13. I once had a MAD moment, I had bought the EC annuals with the five collected stories plus the EC library series. The moment came when I decided to use the annuals as colour guides and colour in the library volumes one by one! I was going to use coloured inks, brush in hand after having dipped it in the ink and I just could not do it. All the usual questions flooded into my brain: 1/ you're destroying a classic book 2/ think how long this is going to take you 3/ I'm no artist 4/ take the lazy route leave them be Thank goodness I went with a mixture of all four and decided to just enjoy them as they are, see there is hope for me yet?
  14. I came across this video on Youtube Clint's comics starts about the 11 minute mark and they talk to the owner who died. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5ri7daAlCE&t=16s
  15. Did they not try to reignite the EC line with the comic called "From the tomb" by using some of the original EC artists.
  16. The Brendan Fraser Mummy museum scene revisited! Killed by comic books how cool would that headline read, glad no one was hurt.
  17. Thanks for posting Mike, although I would be like Charlton Heston "They're going to have to tear that Amazing 39 splash from my cold dead hands!" I just could not leave without that masterpiece I'm SORRY I'm weak.
  18. I love that Wonder woman cover, it's strange that some great covers are neglected in favour of the keys. Personally I just love the art more than the personalities, great collection of books you bought enjoy.
  19. From the above Wiki link in my post...Rock on! WIKI: Contemporary use by musicians and fans[edit] The 1969 back album cover for Witchcraft Destroys Minds & Reaps Souls on Mercury Records by Chicago-based psychedelic-occult rock band Coven, led by singer Jinx Dawson, pictured Coven band members giving the "sign of the horns" correctly[citation needed] and included a Black Mass poster showing members at a ritual making the sign. Starting in early 1968, Coven concerts always began and ended with Dawson giving the sign on stage. This began the common use in heavy metal music.
  20. That hand gesture was used in the past to ward of the Evil eye centuries ago also Dr Strange had better watch out he is next. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sign_of_the_horns
  21. I agree with some of the other members about the availability of comics, however here in the U.K they are still available in local newsagents (convenient stores) and the kids still look through them so there is hope there for new fans. However I tend to think that you should encourage the younger generation, the movies are great but the history is greater. My grand nephew can tell you who the Marvel and DC heroes and villains are by seeing their images and he is 10 why because I told him stories from memory of the stories I read growing up in the 60's (GREATEST TIME EVER). As his interest grew I bought him the comics or let him read mine and it gave him a new found respect for reading in general, his grades improved and even his knowledge all round. Yes I made one fan and hopefully he might pass that on to others as he has already told me, case in point he was talking to his friends in the play area and one of them mentioned Thanos, he was able to inform them all about the character and now they are excited about the gem stones.
  22. I'm betting that they are known to you personally or at least through connections. I wish you well, also why have the police not contacted Ebay for their details. I've just checked Ebay and if you click on the buyer feedback it lets you contact them personally hope that helps.
  23. Thank you for posting I've really enjoyed watching the video.
  24. Hey Ken we share a few things the love of Spidey E.C and now Solomon Grundy SPOOKY.
