  1. One last bump before I close this thread to make way for a new comic sales thread this weekend. Thanks for looking!
  2. Take Incredible Hulk 172 VG+ $ 5.00 King Solomon's Mines VG cover loose at top staple $ 65.00 (1951 AVON)
  3. New Webcomic: Chores I just posted the second standalone 6-panel webcomic from my forthcoming Dad Powers and Other Stories comic. It's only about 20 seconds with full audio. Take a look. Please subscribe and like if you enjoy it!
  4. It's been quite a couple of weeks. I read each night with my 6 year old son, then my 9 year old daughter. I thought he'd enjoy Super Mario Adventures because he loved the recent movie and all the Switch games. He really enjoyed it! Then I mentioned to him that I have Battle Beasts comics because he loves my complete collection of original Battle Beasts. Book was nothing special, but we'll read the original series from the 80s next, hopefully starting today. Super Mario Adventures: The book is a compilation of comics originally published in Nintendo Power in the early 1990s. It was a fun read. My son loved the recent movie, so he enjoyed seeing a lot of the same characters in these stories. I laughed a few times at the traveling salesman. Battle Beasts TPB: A bit of a letdown and quite a departure from the original Battle Beasts. The story was decent, but not spectacular. It sets up a sequel that never came. I'm continuing my run through Tintin. Steadily getting better, but still not what I was hoping for. Just jumping from one scene to the next with half the time his dumb luck saving him. I'm not giving up yet. My daughter and I are continuing our journey through Uncanny X-Men. She loves it, and I'm so happy to be reading these again and sharing the stories with my kids. Our current issue is the return of Magneto, and he was just transformed from a baby. My daughter has asked me to get copies of Defenders 15 and 16 so we can read the story of how Magneto turned into a baby. It's crazy to imagine a period in the X-Men where there just wasn't a Magneto. 228 comics so far this year!
  5. I read Armageddon 2419 AD a few years ago for the first time, too. My review was the same as yours - definitely does not hold up. But it did launch an incredible character!
  6. 215 comics so far this year. Pretty low for me, but partly because of the types of books I'm reading. Adventures of Tintin Cigars of the Pharaoh - maybe the best so far? This is #4 in the series. Still not great, but I'm still hopeful that these get better as the story progresses. We've finished the first 6 comics in the omnibus. Started the 7th already. My daughter is really enjoying it, with a few audible gasps when the X-Men are in danger. She's also inspired to wear a Storm costume at our next comic show. Good times.
  7. I just posted the first standalone 6-panel webcomic from my forthcoming Dad Powers and Other Stories comic. It's only about 30 seconds with full audio. Take a look. Please subscribe and like if you enjoy it!
  8. Not quite as bad as the previous volume. I have such fond memories of the Tintin cartoon growing up, and I really enjoyed the more recent CGI movie. I'm hoping these get better soon.
  9. I had a booth at a mixed genre show yesterday (a mix of comics and other things). I picked up a couple of TPBs for cheap, but nothing worth photographing. There was a collector there with tons of promo items and posters. I didn't have time to dig through the posters, but I picked up the following promo items for a whopping $4.50. I'm a sucker for promo stuff.
  10. Had a busy show yesterday. My next show isn't until October, so I'll give this another bump. Same deal as before, $10 per book, $5 flat rate shipping (USPS Media Mail), one free gift (sticker or or bookmark) of your choice per book. Personalizations happily added at no cost. Feedback on Amazon or Goodreads is always appreciated. I may not be able to ship until the weekends due to my work schedule.
  11. The whole family enjoyed the new movie. Even the artwork won me over eventually.
  12. 205 comics so far this year. GI Joe 21B was a disappointment that added nothing useful to the original story. Tintin in the Congo. The second book in chronological order. This story didn't age well. It's even hard to find this book, and many of the reprints don't even advertise this book. Unfortunately, this was the "updated" version. Originally, it looked like Tintin screwed out a hole in a rhino's back and dropped in dynamite, which exploded part of the rhino everywhere. The rest of the story was unchanged. Artwork is much better than the previous book, but the story was not engaging. Horrible depiction of characters by our standards today.
  13. I decorate my home office with comics and other stuff. I love it. I have a spinner rack in my office where I occasionally swap in and out items. I have an X-Men column with some of my favorite covers. For a while now, I've had Uncanny X-Men 141 and 142 in the rack (Days of Future Past). A classic story with iconic covers. My nine-year-old daughter noticed them recently and started to ask a bunch of questions...do the X-Men really die? What happens to Wolverine? Is Storm okay? And so on. She's familiar with the X-Men. We previously read the entire Age of Apocalypse story arc together (~40 issues). She's watched the awesome X-Men Animated Series and the X-Men Evolution Series. So X-Men are not new to her, but these covers grabbed her. So I offered to read them to her. She liked the story. We'd stop and talk about character backstories and answer questions that come up. When the story was done, she kept asking questions. I formulated a plan for the next morning. I got out the Gerber photo history and started showing her X-Men comics, describing different storylines. She started to write down issues of Uncanny X-Men that she wanted us to read. Then we talked about newer issues, like the Jim Lee issues. She said no. Then we talked about Powers of X, and she said yes. Then we talked about Ultimate X-Men, and she said yes. I asked again about the Jim Lee era, and she said no again. Later in the day, a new thought came to me. She wanted to start with Uncanny X-Men #101 because of the Phoenix story arc, but I explained that she would be missing a lot of backstory. I was able to convince her that we should start with Giant Size X-Men #1 and just keep reading until she wants to stop. So I ordered an omnibus from Amazon that arrived the same day. And that night we started reading Giant Size X-Men #1. Honestly, this is a dream come true - we read X-Men together every night, then I read Tintin after getting the kids to bed. Here's the original list my daughter made before settling on the omnibus:
  14. Conan the Barbarian TPB By Jim Zub #1 (Into the Crucible) Decent read. A few things plot-wise I didn't love. I'll read the next book in the series, and possibly his new Conan series. Like another board member, I'm reading through the Adventures of Tintin series in order, starting with Tintin in the Land of the Soviets. Wikipedia: "It was serialised weekly from January 1929 to May 1930...Hergé later expressed embarrassment at the crudeness of the work...Critical reception of the work has been largely negative, and several commentators on The Adventures of Tintin have described Land of the Soviets as one of Hergé's weakest works." I think that summary is accurate. It's not a fun read in any way.
  15. Next week when asked how I spent my weekend, should I proudly announce that I made a comic where my kids and I pretended that they broke my butt? To round out the five Dad Powers stories in my comic, I'll include a few random 1 page stories (like this one) and some single panel stories/jokes. I'm curious if other kids and adults think this stuff is funny, or if it's just us.
  16. When I display raws, I put them in a toploader. It looks like a toploader for trading cards, but for comics. They come in different sizes, too.
  17. CGC Boards - sell stuff here. I've done that a bunch over the years. MCS - I've had a great experience with both selling and consigning with them. OfferUp - not as good as in past years, but I've sold lots of bulk. Lots of annoying "is it still available" messages with no follow through. Local Shows - get a booth and sell at a show. Whatnot - I don't do this, but I have friends who do and they love it.
  18. My only commission for the past year or so, maybe longer?
  19. I ordered a commission 27 months ago (that's not a typo) that arrived this week. We exchanged many emails over that time with moving estimates, but it's here and it's not going anywhere. There's an incredible texture on this, too.
  20. I just posted the second webcomic in my Dad Powers series. It's about 2 minutes with full audio. Take a look. Please subscribe and like if you enjoy it!
  21. 192 books so far. Star Wars: Tales from the Rancor Pit. Short hardcover frame story. Very meh.
  22. I recently completed the next story in my upcoming Dad Powers and Other Stories comic. This story is called The Park. Like the first story, this story 20 black and white panels and is followed by a single panel gag panel. I'll also make the 20 panel story into a web comic, complete with narration. You can check out my YouTube channel here to see my first web comic: https://www.youtube.com/@FlatMountainPublishing If you're in the Phoenix, AZ area and are interested in being in a comic, just send me a PM. I'd love to hear feedback on the comic strip. Thanks for looking!
  23. Rules: US buyers only. Shipping is included in the price. PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, money orders, and checks accepted. Payment must clear before shipping. 24. I improved the freebie options for all purchases. You can choose one bookmark or one sticker for each book purchased. Instead of only getting a bookmark, you can choose a bookmark or sticker. I put pictures of the bookmarks and stickers in the first post. Thanks for the purchases so far!
