When is a sale not a sale???

This Travis Charest cover was on Albert Moy's site earlier this year for $9K, then it went to Burkey's site where it sat for a while at $12K.  It was then auctioned at ComicConnect (while still being listed at Burkey's site until CC asked Burkey to remove it from his site) and sold for $11K last month.  Now its back on Burkey's site, but for $11K.

Yes, I was curious about this too. More than the usual "dealer shuffle." Was this another buyback?

Not quite, this sold roughly a year ago on Clink, I only know cuz I was the underbidder. It was offered privately beforehand for roughly this same current ask, but I don’t think this example counts as a “quick flip”. If you go to their site it’s actually much more reasonable at $32k. I love the bottom panel, but the rest of the page is “eh”, which is the issue…

You are correct. Apparently I still think it's 2022...

    ASM #305 p16

Sold at CL a few weeks ago for $27,402 and now on ebay for $38k obo. Do they even have it in hand?

edit: my bad, it was a year and 3 weeks ago. Wrong year!

I thought it would go for HALF of that! I mean, the original, published cover and video game art is all covered under the inks, so they're basically destroyed, gone. It's a commission now, so I was surprised at the high price that it sold for. I would almost bet the current buyer won't be able to get his money back if he decides to resell anytime in the next decade.

Yes, I believe it sold for around 4k in the last 2 years but wasn't described accurately, so the buyer canceled and it was auctioned off for half that:

("I won, but later cancelled because I found out the inks were done after publication. It was later auctioned off again at half the price...

I contacted HA directly and sent them links from Banning's Instagram post mentioning the inking process over Bagley's pencils. It took a few days, but I was able to retract my bid.")

Has anyone received some kind of official communication from CL about a data breach, and that it accessed personal information including credit cards? If there was a data breach, I would have expected something official, but haven't received anything.

Or is that speculation due to a hack that resulted in the redirect of the main page?

I've gotten plenty of emails about comic book auctions which I have never participated in, but no acknowledgment of being hacked or if my (way out of date) credit card info is safe.

They definitely need to put something out there.

    Has anyone emailed or called?

I just checked that...luckily I have always paid with check, so didn't have but one cc on file that expired like 10 years ago...so whew to that

Whew! Luckily I'm in the same boat. But everyone should check.

  7. Happy to talk Surfer, also my fav character.

Nothing wrong with selling, you've collected a decent amount and you can see what's more meaningful and important to you.

Some things are definitely keepers and others are fine and nice to have but don't really have the same OOMPH.

I'd personally rather have fewer pieces but each one be more meaningful.

My feeling is that Heritage is best for selling for higher prices & convenience. I suppose if you buy more from one place (CL, CC), that may work out better for you or if a dealer seems to have stuff you want. Altho I did my first decent sized deal buying from another collector and it was basically as simple and quick as possible (YMMV).

I want to thank everyone for all the information, it's been great and I've been studying. Heritage would like to list it, but waiting to tell what kind of auction. A $1 opening bid makes me nervous.

IMO Heritage will get the highest final price, just depends on how much of a cut they're taking. I think you'll do well.

I second this.  Unless you already have some friends in this hobby, it's super important (in my opinion) to develop a relationship with someone(s) who understands the hobby and to which you can go to for anything.  I didn't have anyone like that until this board and there's one individual in particular where we text back and forth all the time about all things OA related whether it's auction results, tracking pages, discussing deals, reminding each other of art drops, bringing pages to each other's attention, etc.  Very beneficial.

    Agreed!

Always good to have a second opinion and sounding board.
