I was at that show in LA at the Forum. I don’t remember much because I was clouded by psychedelics…

Any of you comic people collect Hot Wheels?
Robot Man replied to Robot Man's topic in Comics General
Found these at Target yesterday. Older D case restock. The custom 53 Chevy is the Treasure Hunt. And the 2nd Godzilla Nissan recast. Missed out on them first time around. -

Did Tim Holt #30 inspire the Zodiac Killer?
Robot Man replied to Sarg's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I agree. Such a great cover all on its own. I have wanted one for a long time but the Zodiac connection has put it just slightly out of reach for me. -

Silver age comics that are heating up
Robot Man replied to rabidwolf's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Was my second Marvel comic. Bought it off the drug store rack as a kid. The Sandman blew me away. How do you defeat a guy like that? Read it to bits. Still one of my favorite Spiderman issues. Sadly, I no longer have a copy. -
Any follower of the Australian Phantom comics publications?
Robot Man replied to BA773's topic in Comics General
It means, is it hard to find the earlier issues there? -
Many, many, many years ago I was at a small comic show. There was a guy with a table full of nice GA/SA books. We talked and he invited me over to his place. When I got to his place, I found it was a trailer. Inside was a couch, a TV, coffee table, a mattress on the floor and was packed with mostly worthless comics. I quickly figured out that show table was his entire life savings. I left a lot less impressed…

I have always bought them because I like them. And because I like them and kept them, just by accident, they have become pretty good investments…

Oh Ebay, it's just so funny sometimes.
Robot Man replied to Mutie Fan's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Indeed. The problem is often, sellers pop up the actual cost of shipping a bit to compensate for fees. Big auction houses often pad the cost of shipping with a handling fee for the same reason. Everybody wants to squeeze as much as they can on every sale. I always figure shipping cost, handling, buyer’s premium and taxes into my bids. Coupled with the frenzy of “being a winner”, I usually lose a lot of auctions. -
Auctions only have high bidders NOT winners. The high bidder gets a minute or two of satisfaction then comes the reality of actually paying for that minute. By the way, looks like a little possible shilling in the bidding history…

CGC graded Pulps - my first experience and results.
Robot Man replied to Hibou's topic in Pulp Magazines
I probably won’t submit many. Cost and storage space. I don’t intend to sell any. They look very pretty in Mylar so what’s the point? The ones I do will be done if they are high grade or ones I just love the covers for. Trying to get some of the pricier ones done before the prices push them over the top. So many still fall into the “value” tier. Once graded, I suspect they will tip over to the next tier. So trying to beat the rush as prices rise. Also trying to get some of the more unusual and ones I think are overlooked done. I’ll post the other ones I submitted when I get them back. -
Let's travel to the PLANET STORIES Universe
Robot Man replied to Hap Hazard's topic in Pulp Magazines
Smart move, get them while you can. I have always thought them cheap when compared to their comic cousins. These are really starting to take off in my area. -
It would be a Crime not to post your Detective Pulps
Robot Man replied to Robot Man's topic in Pulp Magazines
Nice! I’d buy it too. Over the years, I have bought two collections of covers only. I’m mostly a cover guy so the combination of a very affordable price and dwindling storage space, they are perfect for me. -

Almost twice as thick as a comic book slab. See Hibou’s photo on the previous page. -

Well my first eagle has landed. My first submission to CGC. I dropped this off at WonderCon on 3/29 and got it today. Quicker than I expected. Came back a little better than I expected. I had it at 7.0 so I guess my grading skills aren’t too bad. This slab is THICK! I will have to add on to the comic room if I keep doing this. Now, I wait for my two “value” submissions… -

I'll pound you to a "Pulp" if you don't show off yours!
Robot Man replied to mr.schomburg's topic in Pulp Magazines
Scored these today in a trade with a local guy. Blinding colors! Don’t have time to go through my FH Jungle and Jumbo comics but these covers seem real familiar. Possible swipes? I have a handful of very high grade Jungle pulps. Due to their traditional low values, now might be a good time to have some of them graded. -
The Chicago Toy Show is one of the best shows of its kind in the US. Or at least it used to be. I haven’t been in maybe 8 years. Lots of amazing eye candy. And I have even found old comics there.

Is that a bound volume? Some great overlooked digest covers there.
