  1. Thanks for this. Always nice to put the person who put together these collections their rightful place in the hobby.
  2. Amazing how cheap Planet Stories are compared to Planet Comics. Now, due to the great equalizer, graded, slabbed copies, I expect that gap to slowly start coming closer together. At the end of the day when all you have is the cover anyway…
  3. I would disagree to a point. Some amazing covers with interior art by Finlay, Paul and Bok. I also enjoy the Ray Bradbury stories although I haven’t read them cover to cover.
  4. I second this. I submitted books at WonderCon and had hoped to do the same at Torpedo. I just don’t like shipping valuble books through the mail. I would think your booth would be mobbed.
  5. Digests are a little wider and taller than paperbacks. Also, less pages and saddle stitched.
  6. Smart move on box diving. Love the Jeep and First Love. Wall gazing is generally for suckers or those too lazy to dig the boxes. There was actually a time when virtually nobody looked in the romance boxes. Up until maybe 8 years ago, I was pulling Bakers out of boxes at guide. And guide was real reasonable on most. Dave Stevens books, (God bless him) are mostly all common as dirt. I still pick up nice copies up at flea markets for a buck apiece.
  7. I finished off my pre code run last year. Other than #1, I got all of them in grades from 4.0-8.0 for $100. Or less. On some MUCH less. I held off completing the run until most of my other PCH runs were complete. ACGs are just so much less impressive other than a few outstanding issues. I suspect many other PCH collectors feel the same way.
  8. #5 is the best cover in the run as well as most of DC’s funny animal output. But frankly, it, as well of most of them, are pretty much unreadable. Thusly, I don’t have too many of them.
  9. Holiday 5 is a Cole masterpiece! Glad to see it getting the love it deserves!
  10. Pretty far from my focus but I do have a few of them. I'm sure @Tri-Color Brian has quite a few.
  11. Being a PCH guy like I am, I can see why you are attracted to the Matt Fox covers. I have been collecting and upgrading them for years. Problem is, others have discovered them and prices are escalating quickly. They have been somewhat common and available for years but are now pretty sucked up around here.
  12. OK, this thread is officially closed! Was a lot better than I thought. Vintage PB's are definitely in demand and appreciated. Invoices are out except for Andy @goldust40. For some weird reason, it just doesn't want to go through. Send me a PM and I will try and answer through that. For those who I receive payment over the weekend, I will send out on Monday. Otherwise, a slight delay as I have a crazy week next week. Postage has gone up again! "Ground Advantage" is sure no "advantage" to anybody but the Post Office... To make up for it, some of you might find a freebee or two just to fill boxes. Thanks to all who have looked and even more to those who actually bought something. Sales threads are fun and sometimes clean out a little clutter. I never get rich but it still is fun. Until next time.
  13. Blue Book Burroughs issues are really cool. Here is a local flea market find in 2021. The lady had them priced at $10-40 each and she was selling them for half price. They were cover dated from 1928 up to the late thirties. I quickly snatched up most of them. Was considering even some of the real low grade ones when some guy grabbed the rest. The funny part was there were a couple young flippers with their phones frantically trying to find prices on the two boxes of modern comics. When I walked up they just shoved the box of Blue Books at me trying to keep me away from what they were looking at.
  14. Any plans to continue the run up to maybe #40 when the Sandman appears? So many cool covers there as well. Thanks for posting these as a run and letting us live vicariously through you!
  15. I am a long time PCH collector. I’m pretty complete other than a handful of super high priced issues which I am unlikely to own. I don’t really follow the “market” real close. I do know that when I set up at the occasional show, these are the first to go. In any condition. I used to be able to pick them up here and there but no longer. Once sold, they are gone for good. Same story (or even worse) for similar Pulps. Condition is not a factor. For every high grade collector, there are hundreds of low grade collectors scrambling to pick up any copy they can find. Used to be there were deals in the mid grades but no longer. PCH and even half decent Crime books are scorching here. At every grade. I find it hard to believe that this will not continue. Don’t let anyone tell you that low grade books are undesirable or worthless…
  16. Just got in this grim one. Nice cover. A dark, smoked filled room and a bunch of characters who could obviously care less about ‘ole Rogers…
  17. BIG loss to the medium and especially the UG movement. A wonderful lady who was a true champion to many forgotton and lost to time women creators. A heck of a nice lady as well. RIP Trina!
  18. There are way more than a few hundred left in the world. But yes, much more rare. Sometimes the copy in front of you is likely the only chance you will have to ever own it. Others, seem to turn up on a fairly regular basis. Just gotta trust your gut and experience.
  19. Pulled these two out of a stack of old Surfer mags at an antique mall yesterday. So iconic to those of us growing up in SO CA as kids in the early ‘60’s. Before he “tuned in, turned on” and moved to the Bay Area to turn out some of the best concert poster and album cover art, Rick Griffin was just a young, very talented surfer “greemie”. He was, by far, the youngest contributor to this iconic magazine. (Under 16). His character “Murf the Surf” was featured for several years. This is his only cover and the only time there wasn’t a photo on the cover. Sadly, Rick passed away on his motorcycle on a foggy morning. He left us way too soon… The story (a multi issue arch) in evolved a spot called Trestles. An amazing break that was under control of the US Marines and strictly off limits to surfers. Not that folks didn’t try. Me and a couple buddies tried one day. Under cover of darkness, we ventured in and were grabbing some nice “dawn patrol” tubes when a jeep pulled up on the beach and ordered us in. They would usually take your board and drop you off at the gate with a stern warning. We made the mistake of running and were greeted on our back sides with rock salt. Shattered the glass on my board and went right through my wet suit. Stung like an SOB but we got away never to return. The Cartoon Book was a digest full of great Griffin surf jokes. Both are quite rare and went the way of the trash can along with my comics by my mom after I moved out of the house. Glad to have them both back!
  20. Cool! I love the codes especially since it was broken. They aren’t on all of them though. A while ago, I picked up an unoted Crippen from Harley at a show. I wanted it either way. But before I bought it, I did the usual look through and page count as I always do. And there it was. No COA though. Nice book by the way. One that has always eluded me…
  21. And it just might have that pencil code on the top of the first page…
