  1. Great question. It is something I have always been curious about as well, and I feel like I have been collecting for quite a while. Heck, I didn't know there were three planes until Bob's post. I do know there are two different size roll-over tanks. Had a chance to get a small one years ago, and saw a large one in someone's collection. Back in the pre Internet days. I would find a lot of stuff at flea markets, garage sales, toy and comic shows. Although the internet did not exist I got a lot of mail order and auction catalogues. Hakes Americana was a very valuable resource. I also corresponded with a lot of collectors who for the most part were pretty willing to share their knowledge and collections. Ego has always and still does come into play. Collectors like to brag and I would just suck up the info. Early on, everything was unknown and new. A great time to be a collector!
  2. Great Chessler! I have a Canada copy of that with a green background and slightly oversize. I'll try to dig it out and post it when I get the chance.
  3. Wow, thanks Sharon! I'd be happy to wear a wrinkled shirt to see those. I've never seen those two Banners outside of Gerber. The last Super Mystery is also a classic that is on my want list now!
  4. You know, these boards have given me a new appreciation of my collection. I have obviously spent years chasing down this stuff but spent very little time it seems just enjoying what I have. Going through my collection to share it with you has been fun. So busy doing this that I haven't felt the need as strong to aquire more. (Not that that will ever happen), I'm just taking the time to "smell the roses" and re-read a lot of comics and look through stuff I haven't looked at in ages. (Saving some money too). Hopefully, I'm putting a slightly different slant on just collection comic books.
  5. And while I am doing Superman, here is the incredibly rare 1942 Superman sheet music. I was dragged to a doll show with my wife a few years ago. A lady had a pile of sheet music and I was bored so I looked in the pile where I found this. Needless to say, I jumped all over it. I have only seen one other since I got this.
  6. OK, the people have spoken. I guess no more comics just the "other stuff" from now on. How about this cool grouping of Superman tin toys? They were all made by Marx Toys in 1940. This is both of the tin wind-up tanks and two of the 3 Superman wind-up ariplanes. I have the read and blue planes but not the silver one. These are very cool when wound up Supes flys over the plane until it catches up then he does it again until he runs "out of juice"
  7. Aw comon Hap. If you guys keep posting all my favorite books, I won't have anything else to show you guys exept crappy pinbacks and toys...
  8. Oh, blastphamy! I love that cover. I know, different strokes. I'm not generally a Ditko fan... I guess I just like the starkness of it and the green background. Just a huge dead guy's face. I can't imagine how much it stood out that month on the newstand. Since, you don't like it, got a better than vg copy you want to part with???
  9. Hi Bill. Nice "Paul" haul! Being a Schomburg fan this of course is my favorite. Also like the TEC #58 and 135. Looks like your dillegence is paying off. Interesting to note that none of these Tecs were in Ed's pictures. I know a lot of them slipped through the cracks because they were all mixed up in different boxes. I was only seeing them in groups of 2 or 3 short boxes at a time all mixed up. I know Joe put many of what he that was best or key on the bay. But I don't remember seeing any of these. I know Jim and maybe 1 or 2 small buyers got into them as well. I'd love to know where these came from just to trace the lineage of the collection. I don't want to horn on your deal as I know you are still actively seeking them. Besides, our interests are pretty different anyway. If you want to tell me, you can PM me. If not, no hassle and I understand. And, if you get bored with that Startling you know who would give it a good home...
  10. Love that #3! One of my favorite comics of all time. I need an upgrade on mine. VERY yards to find with good green!
  11. I didn't know that there were fake Bethlehems. Why would anyone ruin a nice book to do this? They don't really get much of a price bump anyway, do they?
  12. Great book! I wouldn't kick it out of the box. I know Bedrock likes it too...
  13. Wow, beautiful group of books! The colors are amazing. Hard to pick a favorite. I still need a #20 to have the whole run of Wonder. Lot's of great covers in the run!
  14. As a matter of fact I do, my good man! I'd be thrilled to show it to you. It ain't purty but it's all mine. While we are on the Avon subject, do you have one of these? I believe I have the Western ones as well.
  15. And, while you are at it, how about a look at your copy of the Magna Carta?
  16. Here are a few Spirit items. His first newspaper intert appearance was in 1940. This stuff is from that era. This is all the GA Spirit (non-comic) stuff I know of. The buttons are pretty large for the era, about 1-1/2" in diameter. The mask is pretty rare as not many probably survived.
  17. Wow, what a load!!! Some very killer books there. My mail box has NEVER looked that good in one day! Congrats!
  18. SCORE!!! What fool would trade that for an low grade X-Men #1? Probably the cash part talked to him. That is a keeper!
  19. No Brian, Me love you long time. Just for you!
  20. This one is another one of my favorites. Best Capt. Marvel Jr cover in my opinion. Almost humorous... "An eye opener" Indeed!
  21. Oh man, this sucks. A real nightmare probably caused by reading too many of these comics!
  22. What did this dude do to get this happening to him?
  23. "You'll shoot yer eye out" or even worse have some monsters do it for you. Todays offering is a real "eye opener" as it says on one of these. I love these "injury to the eye" books. I know the interiors have some good ones as well. True Crime #2 and the Thing #16 come to mind right away. Probably have a few more I overlooked but would love to see any you might have that I haven't posted. This one is probably my favorite of the bunch. It would have had my dime in a heartbeat back when it came out. Great color and image!
