  1. That's 'cause you just collect that old superhero junk!
  2. Woohoo! Marty with a superhero Timely! Very nice, Marty. I might find some more if I keep digging! (PAC #56) mm I can only dream of what it was like to buy Timely's off the newstand Marty! Just think, a whole stack to pick through at once. Were you a "condition" guy then or did you just grab the one in front?
  3. Thought I'd bump this thread. Got a few Okajima Camp Books for you guys today. I've got a couple more I think but they aren't camp books so a little less interest to you guys. Steve Ritter told me that the Capt. Marvel Advs #28 was the earliest Okajima he had seen. It has no other markings other than the signature. Might even be in his book if it ever comes out...
  4. When filing away the Manhunts I got last week, #4 made me think. I really like "Surealistic" covers and pick them up when I see them. Here are a few that I could remember off the top of my head. I know I have more but they just don't come to mind. Feel free to post any not shown. I'd love to find more if I knew about them.
  5. Sorry Mitch, no sci-fi digests that I know of. I have a friend that collects them so when I turn up any in the "wild" I flip them to him.
  6. Ever go to Geoffrey's in Gardena? Had everything from GA on up. Kinds crazy prices but I always seemed to find a few "mistakes". He passed away about a year ago. I ought to check to see if they are still open. Way back in the day Nick Scotto had a store. Crazy guy and prices but I would go on Saturday when he wasn't there and got some nice stuff real reasonable from an employee. John Verzyl had a shop in Alhambra called Comic Heaven. Lot of pricey old stuff.
  7. If West says it isn't that's good enough for me. I didn't want to ask Beerbong I might not live long enough to find out. Now, what con is Harley at this weekend? He's got some 'splaining to do!
  8. Bought this from Harley a few years back. He sold it to me as such. Has no Riley stamp on back. I have a few others with the stamp but the others have numbers with the "G". The "G" looks the same on all of them but no numbers or stamp on this one. Whaddya think?
  9. Got a few Okajima Camp Books for you guys today. I hear they are popular here. Was digging through the pedigree boxes today and will show some other ones when I get the time. Steve Ritter told me that the Capt. Marvel Advs #28 was the earliest Okajima he had seen. Might even be in his book if it ever comes out...
  10. OK, come on, don't ANY of you guys have a Great Comics with an ad for this club? They can't ALL be entombed in plastic...
  11. Thanks so much! Now I know what to look for. When I turn one up, I'll post it here!
  12. Comicjack Could you possibly do me a favor? Somewhere in this book is an ad for the Phantom Creeps pinback button. If you could carefully take a picture of the page, I would love to see what it looks like. I love this book but have never owned a copy.
  13. 1930's Betty Boop uklele. I mean who doesn't love Betty Boop? So cute, yet so saucy. Check out the "Old Man of the Mountain" cartoon with Cab Calloway if you get the chance. Worth the search on utube! Enjoy!
  14. My two most favorite Spider Pulp covers! The Spider is one of only a few pulps I actually read. The stories are as sick as the covers. (I mostly collect pulps just for the covers) And these two are dooseys!

  16. OK gang here's another cool pinback. The Great Comics Victory Club button featuring the Great Zarro. So what's the big deal you say? Consider that Great Comics only ran 3 issues. Didn't give much time to get this club running. The comic probably didn't sell very well anyway (thus only 3 issues). I used to have #3 but was foolishly seduced by dead presidents (which I no longer have). I have never owned #1 or #2 so I don't know how many issues this club offer appeared in. If any of you have a copy of the book that it was offered in, I'd love to see it posted here. So rare that the only other one I've ever seen was once in a Hakes auction. Even Walter Koenig who is one of the biggest collectors of these comic pins had never seen one. You gotta figure most comics are available if you got a big enough wallet but some stuff like this you just can't buy... (sorry for the crappy photo. This was VERY hard to photo)
  17. Just getting caught up with this wonderful thread. And I gotta say... that stamp is way cool, and by posting it you inked an answer for me. Being a Navy man, I was curious about the stamped anchor found on a few Golden Age books. So I kept some images of books I'd admired with it, wondering about the stamp's backstory and how/why they came to be. As a result of your post, I did a little digging and apparently the anchor stamp with an individual's two initials was a promo offered during the Don Winslow of the Navy radio show. The excerpt below is from an old radio program titled Radio News Tower published by Radio Station WOW, Omaha Nebraska, with a print date of July 1, 1938. It mentions the stamp as a special offer on WOW. Anyway, hope you don't mind me posting images in your thread. Yours is a good one. And I echo the thanks for sharing your nostalgic time capsule with us. Glad you are enjoying the thread. NICE Action #15! If you look back a couple pages in the Fawcett thread some one showed an early Whiz with this stamp on it. I'm sure most people would have no idea what it is. Earlier in my thread I posted some more early Don Winslow premiums.
  18. There were very few Timelys that I know of. Ed got about 5 real nice later Cap issues. I don't know who he sold them to. I only know of a few others. He sold a beautiful MM #26 on the bay. I went for the Nedors, MLJ, and all the odd titles like Suspense ect. There were a lot of DC. Must have been Paul's favorite. I mostly snapped up the later more scarce issues of Flash, All Flash, Green Lantern, Star Spangled, Sensation ect. I only got one Batman and a few Detectives that Ed missed. Got a lot of '50's sci-fi, crime, horror and misc good cover books. You're lucky to even have had a chance at the Timelys. I would have snapped them up for sure!
  19. Hey, how 'bout them Mets? Why don't you take this over to the sandbox of General? We're supposed to be the "big kids" here...
  20. Just a couple more today. First off is this ceramic robot. I put paper clips in it on my desk. Got it on fleabay from a guy in Sweden. Don't know what "gas base" means and he didn't either. This style robot in the tin toy world is known as a "zoomer". Unusual and only one I've ever seen. Next is "Robot Sam Answer Game". Love the huge friendly robot on the cover of the box. He is featured inside. It is a quiz game. Put a battery in it and his nose lights up when you answer correctly. Great graphics!
  21. I think I'm kinda liking the Tracy #37 cover. Pre-code crime in kind of a cartoonish flavor. How about the lady crying in the foreground.
  22. Going through my box of comics I started getting in the new year I found a pile of "Pauls". Still love getting these when I can but the pickings are becomming a little slimmer in the areas I collect. Still some cool ones and they were way under guide on most of them. MATT BAKER! Capt. Marvel War Bond cover Another War Bond cover! I'm not a big Tracy fan like Bill but I couldn't pass these up especially the bondage one...
  23. It ought to feel like Toth ... http://www.comics.org/issue/9411/cover/4/ Busted! Nice catch Scrooge. I'll still take both though. Toth does the better cover, but points to Charlton for somewhat creepy dialogue. Wow, these all seem to have black covers. Must be near impossible to find high grade copies. Then girls/women probably took better care of their books than guys did...
  24. Cool, I've never seen any of these. I like this one a lot! Probably a pretty rare title.
