Didn't this hang in Bill Gaines office for years? I wonder who has it now? Maybe one of his children.

The boards seem a little slow these days. Are you guys actually working at work???
First up is a real hard to find Speed Comics #26. A great American flag/Nazi cover. These Speeds in the number 20's seem real hard to find.
Speaking of Speed Comics, here is another very unusual item. Now, if you thing the comics are hard to find, try locating one of these. This is the Shock Gibson Speed Comics membership kit. I've seen a few of the pinbacks but this is the only complete kit I know of. The cover reproduction is slightly oversize and blank on back. For some reason, this stuff does not appeal to most comic collectors. I feel they go hand in hand and are an interesting extension to the comics themselves.

Ah, the old gorilla blood transfer. Great cover that I've never seen. I have a lot of these. I collect them for the covers and there seem to be a lot of cool covers in this title. I also love the "2 for 5 cents" stamp. We can only dream...

One of the better covers. Love the guy's head whipping back and forth!
i have a single patsy in the collection, and i'm not sure if i've ever posted it. if i have, here she is again. -
Nice book and sooo hard to find. Congrats!
Here's a recent pickup...a tuff Patsy Walker #1 -
Nice one Howard. I think Targets are a bit unappreciated. Great covers but the contents not so much. My favorite is the surfing cover.
Just picked this up. Love that cover.

Hey fitty cent for an Action #1? Original cover price too. Score!
Picked up this at the LCS for $0.50 during Black Friday sales:
And this also, $0.50.... If only it was the real thing!
Each of these were also in the $0.50 bin:
And got the full set 1-7 for $0.50 each (this was right before they announced the movie schedule):
Timing, like condition, is everything.

Yeah, me three. I've got almost a complete pre-code collection except for this title. I need most of the 2-20 issues and just can't seen to get them even in lower grade. I think it might have something about the fact that it is a real long rin title like Strange Tales. Lot of run collectors want 'em. I mostly just want the pre-code issues. I've kind of backed off on them until they cool down as most everything eventually does.

That Fantastic #22 inspired me to look through my "Fox Box" and I found these. I love Hitler's teeth flying out. The Mystery Men from this era all seem to have pretty good bondage covers. I think I am missing only one of the later bondage cover issues. They are all pretty beat but seem kind of hard to come by.

Wow, it must have been fun seeing all those great covers on the newstand (an hard to choose). In those days they really sold books with great covers. Now days, not so much. I have always wondered how cool it would be to EC's on the stands. Especially books like Crime Suspenstories #20 & #21. I know you said you had to "ask" for them under the counter but I imagine in some areas they were just sitting in piles on the stands awaiting kid's dimes.
With such a variety of titles on the newsstand to choose from, it was almost alwaysdifficult to select the book you planned to spend your dime on. As most newsstand
operators did not allow you to flip through the book, your choice was title and what
was on the cover...along with the number of pages. Once in awhile I would stray
away from the known and select by cover alone...sometimes a good choice, other
times maybe not such a good choice. But most of the time I was pleased with my
selections. One of those that contained new characters and stories was TREASURE
COMICS #5 from 1946. It featured MARCO POLO, PAUL BUNYAN, The ARABIAN
KNIGHT and DR. STYX...my favorite, plus The TREASURE KEEPER.

I will vote for the Mysterious Advs and the Fantastic. The Fantastic has a look to it kind of like the '40's Fox Fantastic #3 but missing the Lou Fine art...
Very nice taste! Love Mysterious Adventures and the Witchcraft especially! -
OK, I will conceed that AITI #33 and #38 are pretty good. I have both issues. They just aren't "over the top" as much as their contempories. The first dozen or so issues of both this and Forbidden worlds do have outstanding covers. I pick them up on the cheap when I can. One of these days, I get to posting some cool horror stuff.

Don't apologize for the condition, I think it looks great. (Check the Strange Detective Mysteries I just posted). That sure seems like the hard way to decapitate some one. I've got one that shows some weird little head drill. If it is in my bucket, I will try to post it later.
here's a fun one 1/39 issue of Thrilling Mystery, beat but happy to own it. -
I love that run. Hard to pick a favorite cover. The contents, if I remember correctly, are quite good. Oh, I also love that Hap Hazzard #14 in your sig line. Most people don't realize the Feldstein cover is very similar to Junior and Sunny. Took me forever to find a nice copy.
time for some weird chills -
Thanks AJD I thought it was from down under. I believe I got it on eBay.
I don't know who Rocky Starr is. I think an Austrailian comic book. That didn't ring a bell. There was a very good Australian comic called Silver Starr, but Rocky doesn't appear in the index of either standard reference on Australian comics. But I did find this via a Google search on the image:
Rocky Starr-Destination Venus (AUS) - All-otr.com
www.all-otr.com/R010a_RockyStarr.htm
250 × 250 - Rocky Starr-Destination Venus (AUS). This is an Australian children's show about the interplanetary adventures of daredevil Rocky Starr and his intrepid team.
So I searched the television database at the National Film and Sound Archive, and found this entry:
Title No: 714742
Title: ROCKY STAR
Production Date: 1 January 1992
Produced as: Series
Media: Television
Summary: Satirical black and white TV series produced in 1992 which reinterprets the 1950's radio drama series Rocky Starr. Rocky Star (Richard Morsley), Mitch Morgan ( Stephen Fearnley) and Diana Moore ( Kerry Fox) return to earth which is being terrorised by evil alien Zog. Screened on SBS. 20 episodes of 5 minutes duration.
Country of Origin: Australia
Language: English
The radio database had more - apparently Rocky ran for over 600 episodes.
So now we know.

That is a real nice copy of a very tough book! I've looked for a copy in any shape for years with no luck. I believe Sharon has the Larson copy. "Paging Skypinkblue"
That's funny, I've been searching for a Weird Comics #20 for years and haven't had a decent shot at one. But I do have this: -
I'll take a look at 'em any time. I especially like the drooling gorilla on this one. I just don't see these much especially in this shape!
