  1. Didga ever think you could drive into a drive up store on just about any corner and pay $5. For a cup of coffee?
  2. If it was complete with a full cover and not brittle and they still have it, they did real well...
  3. Very nice start! I can’t even come close to remembering when I only had that many. My first GA buy was from a garage sale down the street as a young kid. I think I got about 40 1940’s books for $4. And had to borrow a buck from my mom...
  4. Must have been from the beginning of the print run. As the press ran, printers were supposed to keep the fountains full of ink. Probably got sloppy on the day they printed this issue. Similar to what the printers of Friction House books did everyday..,
  5. Nice! Now that must have been a LONG time ago...
  6. For you old hippie CA residents... Didga ever think you could walk into a store and buy any kind of weed neatly displayed under glass, LEGALY?
  7. I think 3 in the ‘50’s. Two Bats and one Tec (at least cover wise). He might have been in a couple other internal Bat stories I’m not aware of. Bat 50 is late ‘40’s I think. None the less, a very under rated character that would be great in a movie.
  8. What year is that from? It almost appears that they really meant the end of him at the time. Seems he was finally revived in the early ‘50’s. There don’t seem to be that many appearances of him in the GA especially with all the Joker, Catwoman and Penguin appearances.
  9. Didga ever think people would spend any amount of money much the less collect Archie or Romance comics?
  10. Didga ever think people would spend the price of a new nice car on a comic book encased in a plastic holder that you could only see two sides of?
  11. Didga ever think that you could buy comics in the palm of your hand at any time or place 24 hours a day and see what it looked like?
  12. This thread is mostly geared to us old geezers who have been around since the dinosaurs. But I suspect it will even pertain to some of you younger folks as well... Didga ever think that a comic book would ever sell for a million dollars much the less multiples of that?
  13. I'm kind or sorry this thread has gone this way. I figured it might. Kind of like sitting in traffic because of a car accident and finally looking at why... First off, Rick's widow HATED his comic book collection. He was very passionate, maybe to much so. Sounds like she got a little greedy and got taken. It suks and represents the dark under belly of this hobby. Most of these people are gone now what is the point of bringing it up? There are other dark stories of folks still living who have tarnished this hobby. I prefer not to dwell on something that I wasn't a part of and is none of my business. The good part is what I contributed. These stores were special and wonderous places back in the day. This is what should be the attention of this post. I wish you all could have been there. I can still picture that hallway at Cherokee filled with boxes of old comics and checking my pocket to see how many I could take home...
  14. A Goodman pre-Timely publication from April 1939. Just slightly before Marvel Comics #1. Although no characters from the book are shown, I believe there is a small interior ad for the up coming Marvel #1 (not pictured just mentioned). I don't have it handy, so I can't confirm for sure. Just going from memory. The title from Marvel Mystery #2-on is taken from this pulp.
  15. Two Face is maybe my favorite Batman villian. Maybe even more than the Joker. I always liked his origin and the fact he could go either way with the flip of that scarred coin. Not a whole lot of GA cover appearances.
  16. Nice Dastardly covers Mike! My wife occasionally finds me pulps in that category when she goes to estate sales. She loves to tell people that I collect stuff with “chicks tied or chained up” while rolling her eyes. She’s a keeper!
  17. Was a LOT better before Wizard bought it. In it’s day, was probably the best show to buy comics. The best part was it was real affordable to sell there. There were tons of “smaller guys” and collectors cleaning out their collections. A lot of real unusual material surfaced. Guys from the Midwest and east coast showed up in addition to all the bigger dealers. I felt like I was walking around with my wallet in my hand. I went once a few years ago to the Wizard show. Although, still very good all the little guys were gone. Sign of the times I guess. I went to one of the first Philly Wizard shows. My wife and I few in for the Brimfield Antique show. We fly into Philly, rent a van, and drive the back roads to Mass for a week picking. The Philly show was a surprise. I didn’t know it was happening until we check in and saw comic geeks all over the hotel. It pretty much suked. Pretty small and sparse dealer wise. Never went back. I am really enjoying the smaller one day comic centric shows like Terry’s show and Torpedo. Just tons of vintage books.
  18. Ferget about it. It's a crappy story anyway. Just enjoy the fun part. Hopefully TriColorBrian, Yellow Kid or some of the San Diego crew come on. They all have fun stories about the area and the era. That's the important part.
  19. Can't remember if I ever posted these or not. This would probably be the place though.
  20. Thanks Cool, I didn't realize there were so many. I wonder if Golden Book collectors treasure racks as much as wel comic book folks do? I picked mine up at the Alameda Flea Market. Just jumped out at me as unusual and pretty cheap. Haven't seen another one but then I don't look too hard.
  21. The way things are going in 6 months it will seem like a steal...
  22. In those days, the first Flash Gordon, Tarzan and Price Valliant issues were worth as much as Action #1...
