  1. I “accumulate” clock covers. That is one of my favorites. Biro was a master. VERY underrated. His stuff always grabs you and makes you want to open the cover. He sold a LOT of comics back in the day.
  2. If it were in a slab, you would miss that lovely pin up of Rita Hayward...
  3. Not me. I got a pretty nice one from Jamie Graham when he was in one of his good moods... It was a steal for $20. even in that shape and SO hard to find. Me, I would have kept it until I found a better one. Might take a while. Congrats oceans!
  4. Shadow covers rock! So many great ones. Way overlooked I think.
  5. Maybe. Depends on the book, who it is signed by, where and what medium. Some modern guy signing with a fat sharpie all over the art. No thanks... Alex Schomburg signing with a ball point pen neatly at the bottom of the splash page on nice vintage Timely. Gimmie! All the signed books I have were gotton by me. Nothing like opening up a book, seeing that autograph and remembering the experience. I’ve been collecting a LONG time so I have met most all the greats of the SA and GA. Never had to pay a dime either!
  6. I’m pretty sure it was a buy it now with a make an offer. How many other people have a spare cover or need a centerfold for a book like that?
  7. I’m not much of an art guy. More into GA comics. I didn’t go to SDCC but did go to the Torpedo show the week before. I found the prices on most any even half decent GA comics. Insane. I mean really insane. Everybody complains about high con prices but this is the first year I have been just floored by jaw dropping prices. I came to buy with way more cash than I would usually bring and a credit card. I saw a few nice wall books and was fully prepared to pay a lot over market. A couple of examples. A nice Fawcett book that guides for $100 or so. I was willing to pay $500. It’s a Fawcett mind you and these are for the most part pretty dead. He pulled it down and I saw the price was $1,500. I just gulped and handed it back. He welcomed me to “make an offer”. I saw an IW reprint Phantom Lady I got on the boards with no competition for $30. A few months ago. There were 3 similar grade copies there priced from $150 to $350! There was TON of nice art. Probably many of them were at SDCC. As I said, I’m not an art guy but jeeze I couldn’t believe what they were asking for what appeared to be quick con sketches. Much of the better stuff to me were priced at what I could get a very nice restored 1969 Chevrolet SS 396 for or a real nice new car. I know I am way out of that market but do pieces like EC covers and Jack Kirby pages really sell for that kind of cash? Or is trade the norm? I’m really getting priced out of this hobby I think. I feel very lucky to have collected for 50 plus years. Anybody who did not go to Torpedo, put it on your list. Mind blowing stuff even if you can’t buy it. Park down the street, pay $10. And you are in!
  8. I sent him a PM but don’t think he is on the boards much. Saw a coverless Action #2 pop up on the bay last night. He has a cover and has been lusting for a coverless one for years...
  9. Great rack but a grand + $300 shopping puts it out of my range... Thanks for the heads up!
  10. Mount Rushmore you say? If Kurtzman is up there Albert B Feldstein is right there with him I say. Took right over for Kurtzman without skipping a beat and continued to refine the magazine.
  11. Lotta big kids still buying comics and getting in. The end is far from now...
  12. Sure, it was only around 5 of them. Just the first issue of each title. He was just sitting a table with a few other artists by the pool at SDCC El Cortez. No lines, no hassle or money exchanged. He was happy to do it for a wide eyed kid. Times sure have changed...
  13. Why would you slink around with a sad face? It a hundred bucks that important to you right now? Would it change your life, does your kid need an operation? If you love it, keep it until you feel better about letting it go. I'm sure you have another book worth $100. that you are less attached to...
  14. It's called a joke... Of course I would sell them if I needed the money or maybe even a stupid price. Either one is unlikely at this time. Everything in life is not just about money. I really feel for those who think it is. Money comes and goes, experiences and memories are just far more important to me right now.
  15. “Oh, the Humanity”... That is something I DON’T miss.
  16. For being the legend he is, he is just a regular guy like us and it shows. Will miss him in MAD...
  17. What? Break up the set? No way. Get yourself a time machine and travel back to the pool at the El Cortez...
  18. Again, not pulps, but I think these might belong here. Got them yesterday from a real out of the way place.
  19. Picked this one up in the middle of no where yesterday...
