Yep. Ran a lot of them in the mid ‘70’s. I remember getting calls at 4:00 in the morning waking up my girlfriend. Damn she got pizzed! -

I remember this guy. Did a lot of trading with him back in the day. About the time most of what he mentions was a buck apiece. So glad I bought a ton of them and hung on to them for so long! -

Thanks for posting this. Brings back a lot of memories. Taught me something that is severely lacking today. Personal communication and patience. Luck has always played into it as well. Grand memories. -
Assist. One of my favorites!
-
The roller coaster one is Shock Suspense #13. Not a cover but a brilliant interior story and only one he did solo for EC. As said, he assisted on several other covers and interior stories.
-
Weird Science Fantasy 29 is all by him. He assists on a couple others.

Yep, but if you lower your sights grade wise, and are patient, they are mostly all pretty available. Was glad to complete Haunt of Fear. A big run out of the way. The horror titles seem to have been trending up in price a bit. Dealers have told me they are good sellers and when I do shows they are the first to go even in pretty bad shape. Crime SS is getting tougher as well. Shock SS, the sci-fi titles and the war ones are pretty much affordable still. I’m not looking forward to the Crime Patrol, War against Crime and Crypt of Terror issues. Harder to find and getting pricey. I’m also going for some of the westerns and romance (near impossible). But patience is a virtue as has been said...

Here is my run of Piracy. These were gifted to me over 40 years ago by a kind gentleman who saw how much I loved them. I was lucky to have Angelo Torres sign #1 and #2 at a con many years later. My favorite cover is #7 with that nasty shark swimming up behind the unsuspecting diver. Again, cheap and available. Pick up a couple. You won’t be disapointed.

Thanks to a cool boardie, I joined the complete Aces High club yesterday. For the third time. A small victory that isn’t much of a big deal but #4 and #5 popped up for under $20. each so I grabbed them with no competition. I can’t say enough about this great run. WWI aviation stories by Evans, Wood, Davis, Krigstein and others. Such GREAT reads. My favorite New Trend run closely followed by Piracy. Do yourself a favor and pick up a couple cheap readers. You will be glad you did!

They are like crack Silver. Once you read one you are hooked. My first other than a couple of MADs, was Tales from the Crypt #23. Started a life long Obsecession...

Are we at a peak of back issue worth/sales?
Robot Man replied to XxSpideyxX's topic in Comics General
I think a lot of “kids” look it as “retro” and cool. People have also realized the sound quality is vastly better than digital. I have sold a ton of old vinyl to kids at shows for pretty decent money. -

I have the first iPhone in the box with all the papers. I also have the first iPod in similar shape. I also have a Sony Walkman. I have no idea of their current worth or what they might bring in the future. Time will tell... -
What comic would you consider spending a small fortune for?

A nice house in Hana, Maui... Or a couple years traveling all over the world seeing things on my bucket list. Comic books? Way low on my list... -
GA comics on American Pickers last night
Robot Man replied to Robot Man's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Trying to “pare down” but I keep buying stuff. Hard habit to break. I have pretty much stopped buying toys and stuff that take up a lot of space. I have it all organized and on a spread sheet. I have also “educated” my family. I know what you mean by finding valuable stuff in estates. Older folks used to hide valuable things in weird places. I’ve cleaned out several estates and found cash hidden in books. Gotta go through everything carefully. -
Nice Steve! Are you complete? I think I need 5 VOH and about 6 TFTC to be done with the horror. I have about 2/3rds of the sci-fi and 3 or 4 Suspense to go. I have most of the western and romance issues. Crime Patrol and COT will be pricey. It’s a slow and steady process. My main focus right now. For the most part, all are pretty available. I’m shooting for 4.0-7.0 and will have a few to upgrade when I’m done. Fun process!

Oops, you are right. My 11 is a Bethlehem pedigree and in another box. Will have to amend this photo next time I’m in those boxes...

That’s sad. A lot of artists were ashamed to admit working on comic books. Funny though because they have stood the test of time well. I can’t recall ever seeing any of her “serious” art but I imagine you will cover that.

These turn up fairly frequently in my area at flea markets. Pretty cheap too. Let me know what ones you want and I will keep my eye open. If they are in decent shape at cheap prices I would probably buy them anyway.

GA comics on American Pickers last night
Robot Man replied to Robot Man's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Actually, they paid pretty fair. I don’t know what else what was in the short box. They have a minimal knowledge of comics. Most people would just offer her a nominal amount for the whole box. I have my collection on a spread sheet with names of dealers that they should contact. Told them to make them an offer on the whole collection and take the highest offer. I wouldn’t mind giving them a few more names. If anybody had any suggestions, a PM would be appreciated. It’s obviously a pretty large and extensive collection so it would have to be someone with deep pockets...
