This particular thread- it does not bother me that a lot of the books have not sold. I know that most of these books are priced above the mean, but not in all cases. Compare my Archie 46 to the 3.0 on eBay. It is also the nicest copy that I see available on the internet right now. CC has a 5.0 (?) :roflmao: for sale now for $125 but it is pretty rough.

This is not a group of books that have to be sold, but it is the money I use to breathe more money back into the community by buying more books.

I'm a miser Rick. Like Uncle Scrooge  "I love to dive around in them like a porpoise, and burrow through them like a gopher, and toss them up and let them hit me on the head!" I'd rather sell crack than my books. Great group as always just waiting for the right one...

  2. I have to say Mitch, this is maybe your best thread ever.  It has made me think of what and who are influental to me personally as the collector I am today. I think a list like this can mean different things to different people. All of these people have made an impact on the hobby and I'm sure there are many more that have yet to be mentioned. No way can I even begin to narrow it down to just five.

And by the way, thanks for paying stupid money for a funny book and raising the prices on all of us...

  3. Cool idea for a thread Rick

I had no trouble thinking of 3 but after that, it's all a blurr. I would post the 3 but can't get the photobucket thing to work right now so you will just have to wonder.

I would probably have trouble narrowing it down to 5 short boxes...

Sounds like you got the same problem I have.

I tried to separate the fact the thread listed people who were "important" to the  hobby with the good and the bad. I had assumed (maybe wrongly?) that the impact they had could just have been easily been a negative one.

Numerous names on the original top 5 and others mentioned since are not what I would consider fine upstanding individuals as human beings go.

There has been a lot of "ends justify the means" when viewing some of these persons in retospect on what they "did" for the hobby.

How they cheated and screwed people along the way to "add" to the hobby would probably make a lively but doomed thread.

Many of the "negative" individuals have also had a very "positive" side.

It has been my experience here that although there has been whispering and quiet talk about a number of these individuals, many are afraid (for some reason) to discuss it or disclose what they know. Money makes people go to the dark side pretty quickly...

    Interesting photo, thanks for sharing.

Don't you just love Matt's at the beach covers. (Beach blanket bingo).

One of his best beach covers I think. The colors on 'ole Bob's copy really pop!

Andy sorry it didn't work out as it's rare that I'm ready to sell anything on setup day. I like to focus on getting my booth ready and whenever the first person ask when I'll be ready to sell I give them a time usually the next morning and I stick to it 100% no matter who it is. This actually works out for a lot of pickers as they can prey on other dealers knowing I'm not selling to anyone.

I had Tom Nelson waiting at my booth at 8:45 patiently waiting until my 9 am pre show sales on Fri morning. Another dealer started going through my comic boxes and I told him I'd be open at 9 and he said it's only a $10 comic . I explained I had already told several others that I was going to open at 9 and I need to stick to it. He shoved the comic back in disgust and left. Me and Tom got a nice laugh from it.

It was nice to meet junkdrawer and 1Cool for the first time and I thank them for the purchases.

Friday was my best day for sales, Saturday crowds were insane and we were swamped 90% of the day. Sunday was kinda chill out time until load out which is very difficult. I had my helper get in line at 3:30 and at 6:45 he finally got on show floor.

Tax man said I need to sell a comic out of my collection so Saturday JLA 1 CGC 8.5 was sacrificed.    Not that GPA will report it but I was asking $18K and sold it for $17.5K.

I subbed 42 comics and was satisfied with most of the grades.

Some of my CGC sales were

    AF 15 CGC .5 incomplete (missing part of ad page), Bat 232 CGC 9.4, X-men 94 CGC 9.0, SS 4 CGC 9.4, Iron Man 55 CGC 9.4, Hulk 181 CGC 9.0, B&B 54 CGC 8.0, ASM 2 CGC 5.0, ASM 300 CGC 9.8, Marv Prem 15 CGC 9.0, Rifleman 10 CGC 8.5, DD 1 CGC 3.5, Flash 123 CGC 5.0, ASM 129 CGC 9.0

Thanks for the great report Leroy. Nice to the dealers market show reports. I like your style on set up time. As a dealer, I don't usually open to anyone until the show opens. Nothing worse as a paying attendee knowing all the other dealers picked the place clean before you get in. I might lose a few sales early, but I find that the dealers show up when I'm open. I'd patiently wait for you to open at 9:00. I know you'd have stuff I want!
