  1. I'm disappointed that his Betty & Veronica books are coming out so slowly, but this will be nice to add to the collection.
  2. I have a lot of PFs with mixed media, and I've not found this to ever be the case. Just buy one and check it out for yourself; you could always send it back for a full-refund. The thing about all these statues and figures is, you have to check them out in person for yourself to know how you feel about them. Even the best pictures and videos don't tell the full story. And speaking of Hot Toys, after just saying I thought they were expensive, I bought a couple from the BvS line. One of them should be arriving today. In keeping with what I just said, it was time to check them out for myself. You're such an enabler. Seriously though, you're probably right. I don't get out to places that I can see this sort of thing in person, so it's time to just go buy one and see what I think. Be sure to offer your thoughts on the HT BvS items. Maybe they'll present nicer than you anticipated.
  3. You guys helped me decide to focus on statues instead of expensive figures, so maybe you can help me with one other thing. What are your thoughts on mixed media statues? I almost pulled the trigger on the Fett Premium Format Figure a few months ago, but there was something off putting about the stitches on his sleeves. Everything else looked great, but in videos and images I saw, the thread/stitch size just looked wrong. Maybe that's something I'd get over when I saw it in person, but that's a big risk at that price. Now, I'm debating the upcoming Kylo Ren, or maybe even the new Vader. But again, mixed media. I worry that the capes or a flowing robe or whatever a statue includes will look like a random piece of cloth tacked on instead of an actual part of the statue.
  4. I'll have to do more research. Looks like the 1/6 SW figures are just that, figures. I either need to accept the larger format (want planning on getting 1/4) or find other characters to enjoy.
  5. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Hot Toys. Sounds like I'd rather have a statue. Can anyone enlighten me on how to tell which Sideshow items are statues? They all seem to be called figures. But the sixth scale Star Wars ones look to be posable. At least some. Are only the Premium Figures more like statues?
  6. At least hot toys seems to have cool pose options. Many of the statutes I'm interested in aren't all that exciting as far as poses go. Granted, there are plenty of cool statues, but my wallet and space tell me I have to focus on only my favorite characters. But I don't want an expensive action figure. I want something that looks great and has impact. Weight. Looks substantial. So maybe HT isn't for me.
  7. Anyone care to offer their thoughts on Hot Toys vs. regular statues (or posable vs one set pose)? I'm interested in getting some of the Star Wars stormtroopers, but worry that, in hand, these feel/look more like big toys and less like a statue.
  8. Aaron's a great guy to work with. He bought some comics from me recently. It was as smooth of a transaction are you're going to get.
  9. I think you already answered your question. So it's the exact same book. Wonderful. How often does this sort of thing happen? I assumed a con exclusive meant just that.
  10. I recently paid $150 for a signed copy of the Hughes NYCC Kong of Skull Island #1. Now I see that it's offered unsigned on DCBS for preorder for $7. First, is this likely to look different in any way, or is this the exact same book? Second, if it's the exact same book, how often does that sort of thing happen? I'll be damn upset if I find out I over paid by plenty for the same book.
  11. Any thoughts on the Hughes Betty and Veronica SDCC or NYCC books? I've never been overly interested in con exclusives, but these have me intrigued. But at $200+, I'm hesitating to pull the trigger. Do con exclusives tend to hold value?
  12. Where'd you get them? I went to Three Cs the other day and snagged $130 worth of Hughes comics and did it again at a shop in Fort Collins. Mostly $3 books, but a few bigger issues.
  13. There is no correlation between the numbers and rarity. They don't have anything to do with each other. That people use them because they "sound" impressive doesn't make it so. There are 1:100 books that are ultra common, and there are 1:10s that are pretty rare. I've never really tracked variants, but this post makes me think that even the "rare" variants can be plentiful. If that's the case, where do these variants go? Are they printed in mass quantities and sent into the secondary market later? Shipped to stores on the cheap months/years later? This line of thought has me wondering how one could educate himself on how plentiful a particular variant might be. When a variant hits, there's a mad rush to secure a copy on eBay. That's when I dive in, figuring that even if I'm paying a premium, I'd rather have the book in my possession than risk it being too hard to find later. So assuming I learn to wait, how long before there's enough data to know if a particular book is actually "rare" or not?
  14. There's absolutely no way she hooks up with Luke to give birth to Rey. No way.
  15. I can totally see her appearing on the Rebels TV show at some point. That wouldn't increase her first appearance value the way a spot in the movie would, but still might be worth holding on to just in case.
  16. JSC has to do a variant, right? I'd assume they'll continue the action figure variants, too. Personally, I'd love a Cho, Hughes, or Artgerm variant, but being Disney and Star Wars, I don't imagine they'll be invited for this one. I haven't read the last few issues of Darth Vader yet, but I'm looking forward to this series. I dig her character and think there are lots of possibilities, especially if they let her have her own stories without much interaction with Vader, Luke, Leia, and Han.
  17. There's a rumor that Aphra will get her own series, too. That could be total bunk, but it's possible that such a comic, if it does well, would heighten her first appearance.
  18. Good point, Doktor. I've noticed that even with popular artists, it's their work on big titles that get the attention. Even with great covers, if the property isn't as big, the interest isn't as high.
  19. I still wish he'd do that "adult" version of Shanna. Never gonna happen, but it does sound intriguing.
  20. Where's the love for Frank Cho covers? Seems that he's not as hot as he once was. Or maybe he was never at the top of the cover artist craze, but I've been so enamored by his well-endowed women that I only assumed others were equally interested. Maybe his "outrage" stuff from the last couple of years wore on people?
  21. So, to make sure I'm caught up....is the next Hughes cover on the horizon the Serenity: No Power in the 'Verse #1 cover? That's out October 26. Same day as Betty/Veronica #2. There's also a NYCC variant of Betty/Veronica #1, but it's just a recolor of the original. Am I missing anything?
  22. I just received my DC Comics Designer Series: Batman by Andy Kubert statue, and holy cow, it's so much better than I thought it'd be. I've been debating statues for awhile now, waiting for just the right one to come along. And this bad boy delivers! It's got a great design and is a lot heavier than I thought it'd be. It's got me thinking that statues are frickin' awesome and I want to buy another.
  23. The first book came out two months ago, and now the second issue slips to October? I'd think that shipping every three months might make sales slip pretty dramatically if people are actually reading the comic instead of just enjoying the art.
  24. Anyone know when Betty and Veronica #2 comes out? I thought it was originally slated for last week, but I didn't see it. And I don't see it listed on this week's shipping lists.
