  1. The book is hard to read straight on... if you can so a pic with the reflection of the surface. From what I can see: Lots of color-break spine ticks Wrinkle on title Color-break crease on the back With a good press and clean I am guessing that you might come out with a 7.0. I wouldn't be surprised with a 6.5 and I would be very happy with a 7.5. Hope that helps. BTW... that is a nice book!!
  2. 8.0 probably... 8.5 maybe with press and clean
  3. You should definitely have it pressed and cleaned. Some of your photos are too fuzzy to get a good idea of condition. There is really nothing here is that is super concerning, except the back, bottom corner near at the spine. Can you take new pics and re-post? Nice book.
  4. Sharp corners... but lots of spine ticks (some color breaking)... I think a good pressing will make it look a lot better, not sure if it will bump the grade. I'm thinking 9.0, maybe the ticks soften a bunch with pressing and you get to 9.2. I think the floor is 8.5 Nice book, thanks for sharing!
  5. Without a press (to me -- the way I grade myself), this book is a 9.0 / 9.2. With a good press I would expect a 9.4 and would not be too suprised on a 9.6. And, I wish I could tell you what spine ticks would and would not come out, but that doesn't happen all the time. Hope that helps.
  6. "NM" -- is a subjective term. When I list a book on eBay that has NOT been graded I NEVER use numeric grading; it is too subjective and gives a false sense of precision that is just not realistic. I would have probably listed the book as "VF++ - NM-"., but that is just me. The last thing I want to do with any buyer that has bought a book from me is to dicker 9.0 vs. 9.2 vs. 9.4. That said, this is a nice book. Get it into the hands of an experienced presser, apply a little humidity, press it once or twice, and most of those spine ticks will be mitigated or eliminated. This is the kind of book I love -- I press my own books -- this one should come out nicely. Hope you get it pressed and send back the photos.
  7. I just acaquired this book https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?q=spectacular+spiderman+76&pubid=&PubRng= I am currently pressing it and will be sending it in. This has an envelope inset with the tattoo samples in it. I guess some are there and some aren't. Will it be on the notes that the tattoo is included? Should I put a note in the bag with the comic? I know this is a little off the wall... I can send picks if that helps.
  8. WOW! Nice book. It appears to have been pressed. Y or N? In my experience you can press a book about 3x before you exhaust the point of diminishing returns. @marvelmaniac gave a good summation: Another press might soften the crease a little more. The back cover could use some cleaning. The page colors are more than I am use to (even for a book of this age) in that condition. Is it the lighting / photo -- or is that the reality? The rip is a bummer. I would hope for a 6.0. I think the floor is 5.0 Your book presents really well!
  9. Normal press and clean cannot remove foxing -- that is just a function of age, temperature, and humidity. There are some advanced technics to mitigate / (and even) remove foxing. However, these run the risk of being labeled as restoration. I would stick with a traditional p&c. You'll be surprised how it will look!
  10. Clean and press will go a long way. Would be nice to see the inside back page... I would say 6.5 to 7.0, but I'm consistently optimistic.
  11. I would just say "don't". There are a number of types of books that I don't press -- foil covers are one of them. If you do try, I would suggest a lower than normal temperature. I also find foil covers more susceptible to spine ticks and color breaks... good luck!
  12. Thanks for reply @marvelmaniac I know the spot is tough to see.... I took another one... see if that is better. I also took another of the bottom corner in question. I understand your POV... that one is not my worry I think I would be thrilled with a 9.4
  13. Danged... the top and bottom corners. Those are hard to look at on this book :/ Pressing will mitigate not eliminate, I am with @marvelmaniac on this with a 9.0... maybe you get a lenient grader for a 9.2.
  14. I am submitting a few books shortly. One is a Mark Jeweler version of Tales of Teen Titans #44. There was no way to indicate it in the submission (I think). The grader will make a note of title (assuming...hoping?) -- just want to make sure to get this one right -- I am truly submitting for a friend
  15. I don't see a color break. Lower right corner on the fc looks a little rough. The back cover needs to be cleaned. If you press and clean the book then I think you are looking at 9.0 with a 9.2 stretch. The bottom for me is 8.5 Again, that is post pressing and cleaning.
  16. Really nice!.... was it stuck in between the pages of a World Atlas?! Has this been pressed and cleaned? If the stuff labeled "substance" is some sort of dirt or glue it might come off (not out) in the hands of an experience presser. I am going with a 9.4 if you have not pressed and cleaned. I would say a 9.0 if you have. Amazing book.... very nice.
  17. I am about to send in a few comics to be graded and would appreciate the community's opinion on this book. It looks very nice, but there is a non-glossy spot at top of book. I hope the pictures convey. Want to know what y'all think before I submit.
  18. I'm slightly higher with a 9.0 - 9.4. The spine ticks on back cover should press out better. If you were to submit the book 10x you would get: 9.0 - 3x 9.2 - 5x 9.4 - 2x
  19. WOW! Cool book! It appears this book has not been cleaned and pressed. The back spine corner seems to be an issue and the top of the fc. I have never handled this book but it appears the cover is more card stock-like. I think it will press well. The color rubs and the spine ticks and color breaks. After cleaning and pressing I would like to think you could see a 5.5, but there might be too many issues on the book and the totality of them brings the grade down. Hope that helps -- please press that thing and post another pic! Thanks for sharing.
  20. I clean and press my own books... I think a pressed book always looks better -- always. It might not bump, but if there are two raw copies of the same book with the same grade then you will gravitate towards the pressed book. I will now take off my Captain Obvious cape... If you press and clean the book perfectly, there are things that will just not press out, but look better. The tape (as pointed out) and the spine split it is patching is the issue. If you did everything else (perfectly) I would not be surprised with a 4.5 grade. Depends if you are getting the book to preserve it or sell it. I am not sure what the cost would be to grade if they think it passed the value threshold ($400). Tough call on grading, but not on cleaning and pressing. I love this book!
  21. I am going to assume that you will get it pressed and cleaned. As mentioned by @scburdet, its the back cover. Is that a stain by the edge close to the lego car bumper? The front cover might have some color rub on the purple, but I can't really tell. I would hope you get 9.2 with a good cleaning of the back cover. Not sure what will happen with the stain... could drop it to 8.5. Hope that helps.
  22. I see a few, small color break spine ticks on front. Corners look square and cover is tight and glossy. The back cover has a slight spine roll, but that should come out with a pressing. I hope this makes sense: After a press and cleaning -- If you submitted this book 10x I think the grades would come back: 3x - 9.0 5x - 9.2 2x - 9.4 Colors look nice and bight -- thanks for sharing!
