  1. Love this book. Love Jack Kirby. Love his DC run in the 70's. I have had this book a couple of times... not including when I bought one off the comic book stand... many, many years ago. Here is what I notice about these books in general -- the cover and back are mostly white and show dirt easily, That said: 1. You should definitely have it cleaned and pressed. 2. The price stamp should not affect the grading. 3. Your top left corner on the front does not look good, but pressing could help. 4. The right, top corner seems rounded. That's a ding. 5. There's a lot of visible foxing... again its a mostly white book. 6. The ink smudge -- can you tell if that is a printer error... or maybe the guy that stamped the 5p. The grader will have to male the call. 7. Lower right corner -- appears to be a color break smudge. That's a ding. If you put some effort or $$ into a good cleaning and press then I would say you are looking at a 7.0/7.5 with a hopeful 8.0. LOVE THIS BOOK! Thanks for sharing.
  2. The front cover seems nice and tight... I am not seeing any color breaks. The back cover needs to be cleaned... you can either read up on that or send it to a professional. Are the staples rusty? I can't really tell. I think this book grades higher then 8.5 with a cleaning and press. I am also consistently optimistic
  3. Wow! Definitely want to hear how this comes back -- _nice_ book.
  4. I have 2 Deadpool #1s with the wrap-around cover. They are beautiful. I would consider them a 9.6 or 9.8. Then I noticed the edges. There is nothing glaring, but I wanted the opinion of this group what the impact on the grade _could_ be. Thanks in advance.
  5. Has this already pressed? If not... 7.0. The cover is very white for it's age -- looks super.
  6. Nice book and nice grade given the pictures that I see. Seems very surprising -- the raw pictures and the slabbed pictures indicate some pressing. The "blam" -- the crease at the top is definitely softer and the creases above and to the left of the Angel seem to be gone. Not sure how the slight rip on the lower left corner didn't get picked up. Super nice book! Congrats on the grade, I just don't understand the grade and the pictures if you did not clean and press it.
  7. This is a recent pickup. Not perfect, but very clean and tight. The biggest glare is the color-break spine tick -- I have pressed it out as much as possible. The second this is that the cover and the book are slightly mis-aligned. This seems to be a production flaw, but wanted to make you aware that I was aware. Any feedback is appreciated. Not sure the value that I list this at for submission. You opinions are again valued here.
  8. Yeah, broke my heart when I saw it... I got it for a good price, will post the results.
  9. OK... nice to hear from others. I think it's a 8.5... praying for a 9.0. The crease is not hard.
  10. Lots of pics -- hope the res is ok. The elephant in the room is the lower back corner. Thanks in advance.
  11. Flat "hard" card stock covers are pretty simple. Most presses have controls to make adjustments to pressure. The thicker the book, the less pressure needed. I think that book is stapled -- it should be hard. Thicker books with card stock, like Trade Paperbacks (TPBs) have glued bindings so you have to be sensitive to the temperature or they can oozed --> that's from my prior mistakes... learning opportunties.
  12. Hey Joey -- sounds like you might be a level or two higher than me in pressing (and I'm not bad)... just to clarify -- you have pressed an embedded cover this one?
  13. Ah... should read more carefully. You ought not (strongly ought not) press embossed books.
  14. Yep. There are a number of factors -- pressure, temperature, age of book. It shows up better on black or (unfortunately) white. The question becomes -- "If I re-pressed that book and got the canvassing out, what is the best grade I could hope for?" The book sure looks nice, I don't see the front cover crease. Depending on what you already had in the book, you could consider cracking and re-pressing. Ask the presser if they use SRP or tephlon. Bummer :/... the grade not the book!
  15. Canvassing is when a comic is pressed using tephlon sheets and not silicon release paper. The tephlon sheets have a weave that gets impressed on some (not all) books. I use to use tephlon and had this happen a couple of times. It is reversable with additional pressing using SRP.
  16. Someone asked something similiar to me... as someone who presses comics. the book was a 9.6 and they really wanted a 9.8. He showed me the book and I told him." That's not a 9.6, that's a gift". If he re-graded it (with another pressing) it might come back as a 9.6 -- as is, it should have been a 9.2 or 9.4. Bumping a 9.6 to 9.8 is very, very subjective.
  17. When you press comics there are techniques to handle issues like this... When you press comics you have something that is referred to as a "stack". Things that are stacked above, in-between, and below a comic before they go into a press. If you have someone do a "quick press" then they probably won't take the insert into account. If you point it out, they can account for the insert. Hope that helps.
  18. I have found that I am usually the optimist on these kind of post. That said, I think this is more like a 9.2 (more likely) and 9.4 as a stretch -- I would not be surprised if it comes up a 9.0. The spine ticks will press out, but they will still be visible. The mark at the bottom is a head scratcher -- I press and clean comics -- wondering if you have tried anything on it? I would try some Absorene -- it is a clay-like substance used in book and paper cleaning. A combination of playdoh and an eraser. It is very gentle. If you are not comfortable with it ask a comic presser -- they should know. You said the white in NOT a break or a rub... under the microscope (kind of jealous) can you discern if this mark is some material that is on top of the page OR a part of the page? Anyway to take a pic through the microscope?
  19. If that is the only thing that is mentioned in the grader notes, then I would agree -- too harsh. I think of color breaks as the difference between 9.0 and higher and 8.5 and lower. If this is the only thing that is affecting the grade then I would say you had it graded by an over-zealous grader. This is my one issue with graders -- at the end of the day it is subjective. Each grader might be consistent with how they look at a book, but each grader looks at a book differently. It is still a pretty book.
  20. I have sold at MyComicShop and eBay. From my experience, sellers get higher prices for CGC books with lower fees at MyComicShop. If you are looking to maximize your revenue that is the way to go. Since the books are CGC they will automatically take them for consignment. They are picky about what raw comics they list. You will have to set up an account with them and then YOU will set the price YOU want on consignment. Good luck!
  21. "fingerprints breaks color" -- that's one I have not seen. You can press a book more than once -- I do it all the time. After the third time, it's probably not going to get better. If I pressed this book and you showed this to me I would have re-pressed no charge. There are just a couple of things that should have (easily) popped out. Referring to the picture annotations from @JollyComics if your book has already been pressed then I would have expected: 1. The crease above the Credits Box to be gone. 2. The crease on thte right side of her cape to be gone. 3. The small issues should have come out/off with light cleaning. 4. The spine ticks should be much softer... not necessarily gone, but softer. 5. The biggest issue that I see is the color rub above Poison Ivy's head. Is this the "fingerprint"? Since you already have notes (which I obviously was not groking at the time) means that the book has already been sent to get graded, come back, and you have the notes? Sorry I might be confused. It is a very nice book,
  22. Please press. If not for you, do it for me -- it would make me feel a lot better. Most everything that I see can be fixed with pressing. With a good press and some light cleaning I think you have 9.0 - 9.4.
  23. Need might be a strong word... I have 4k-5k comics in my collection. There are no grand slams, but I have put together a curious collections of titles that either: a) I enjoyed when I was younger b) acquired for investment c) just found interesting. Some of the comics merit the cost of grading. I have pressed comics for the last 10 years, but have not really applied my pressing along with grading to maximize the investment potential. I would now like to see how to maximize the value of the key books that I have and then decide what I should do next. I was hesitant to do this a couple of years ago because the time required to get books back was way too long. It now appears to have improved a lot. Hope that makes sense.
