  1. I had been looking for this for a long time. Happy to add it to my registry set. Paul~
  2. This was a great thread with nice visuals. Do you happen to know the dates when CGC went without the inner well? I think it was only a few months, but it would be nice information to add to this thread for those of us older members who have poor memories. Thanks, Paul~
  3. Haven't found any products that really work with the Trade Paperbacks. Usually, I just trim a backing board to the size of the trade and then insert it and the trade into a bag and put it on the shelf. The demco stuff is fantastic for dustjackets. Ultraclear (like a mylar) and superstrong. Paul~
  4. I think ghost town has a copy of giant size Conan number 3 in 9.6 in his for sale thread. Scroll down through his list. Good luck. Paul
  5. I've used this product for years. Great protection. I've never had any problems. Here's a link: https://www.demco.com/products/Library-Supplies/Book-Protection/Book-Jacket-Covers/Demco-reg-Superfold-trade-Book-Jacket-Covers-Sheets/_/A-B00166675&ALL0000&es=20180914093114493985 Paul~
  6. I got a chance to look at all of the links last night. I found each of them to be a good source of various material, but qscomics caught my eye as it had both bronze age material UK editions and CGC books. I expected much more UK material than what was posted on each site. The vast majority of the books were US cents editions. That was a bit of a surprise as these stores are located in Great Britain after all and it seems a bit odd to me that there stock is majority US. Does this imply that UK collectors prefer US editions to their UK counterparts (for example, they'd prefer the 25 cent Creatures on the Loose #36 versus the 9p Creatures on the Loose #36 that I posted earlier if the grade and price were the same?). As always, my thanks, Paul~
  7. Many thanks. I'll check them out later today. Paul~
  8. A list of UK dealers that you have used and/ or trusted would be helpful. Thanks Paul
  9. For those of us just dipping our toes into the Marvel Pence Priced Variants, are there resources in the UK that anyone could suggest? I have used eBay for raw books (with good luck for the most part) and Silver Dollar Comics (through Atomic Avenue) but other than that haven't found too much. Any resources to buy CGC slabbed books from the UK? Finally, do we expect to see an increase in slabbed UK books now that CGC is located in London? Would the increase in volume possibly make them more accessible and thus more collectible? Many thanks, Paul~
  10. I check this thread daily, but only now felt the time to come out of the shadows and tell my story. So I was lucky enough to spend my summers in Brighton with my grandparents in the mid-1970s. I started out with simple stuff like Buster and Cor and Beano and as I got older started buying comics like 2000 AD in the original newspaper format. As I became a “comic book collector” back home in California, I moved on to the UK versions of comics that I had purchased in the US like the Star Wars Weekly that sometimes had extra cover artwork. The next step on my journey was buying the UK editions of the US comics so I wouldn’t miss any of the stories I was following back home as typically I was gone for 3 months at a time. I could see right away that the UK versions of the US comics were identical with the exception of the price and the much cooler (in my opinion) banner across the top that read Marvel All-Colour Comics. I would bring these comics back to the US and amaze my 15 year old friends with them. It was a magical time in my life. Unfortunately, I did not return after 1980 and so my connection to the UK comics was lost. Recently, I’ve begun to get interested in them again as they are a link to that special time. Here is my most recent acquisition. Thanks for listening. Paul~
  11. My first "official" 30 cent variant (I previously sold Amazing Adventures #36 CGC 9.2 when I first joined the boards. What was I thinking ?)
  12. I watched this auction last night on ComicLink and it prompted me to wonder what the highest dollar amount a Marvel Picture Frame has sold for (either at auction or a private sale). This seemed pretty strong to me @ $4,205. Paul~
  13. Met him a number of times over the years and am a longtime member of HERC. He often read his own works on audio which really brought the stories to life. Condolences to all. Paul
  14. Read this one until it fell apart when I was a kid.
  15. Project Pegasus was a great arc #53-59 in MTIO with this cover a highlight. Paul~
  16. Some great writing on the original Marvel series by Roy Thomas of course and then later writers including one of my favorites J.M. DeMatteis (#118-130)(1981-1982). Paul~
  17. Flying Donut, Thanks for confirming this for me. So how do I get CGC to change the registry for Amazing Adventures? I posted on the CGC registry thread, but got no response. Would calling and explaining the situation help? Any other ideas? I'm sure this is not the first time that there has been a mistake in the registry. Many thanks. Paul~
  18. I had posted this question in the CGC registry section, but never got a response. Looking at the CGC registry it appears that they graded an Amazing Adventures #35 (a single copy @ 7.5). As the complete list for Amazing Adventure 30 cent variants only includes #36 & #37 is this a mistake on someone's part, or is there really 1 copy of Amazing Adventures #35 floating around? As always, my thanks. Paul~ CGC Registry: In the current CGC registry for Amazing Adventures (1970), there is a place for Amazing Adventures #35 as a 30 cent variant; however, I don't believe that there was ever a variant for this particular issue. See list of 30 cent variants below. Also, here's a screen grab of the CGC registry listing. Can we update the registry to reflect that only Issue #36 and #37 exist as 30 cent variants? - August 1976. In 1976 Marvel faced increasing production costs and experimented with a 5¢ price increase in a number of test markets in the USA between April and August 1976. The test was obviously a success as it lead to a general increase in price to 30¢ in September that year. Below are what are thought to be the test market areas, this is not definitive but is based on collector purchases at the time and analysis of distributor marks (which is not 100% reliable): California: San Jose area Maryland: Baltimore area Massachusetts: Possibly Spingfield area Michigan: Grand Rapids area New Mexico: Albuquerque area Texas: San Antonio area Here is the full list of 1976 Marvel 30¢ price variants, showing the published month i.e. the month shown in the indicia and/or on the cover (the month of distribution will have been earlier): Series Apr. 19. When I moved to Summerville in 1988 for my first "real job", I quickly found The Green Dragon. Great store. First time I saw the Comics Buyer's Guide (and read it religiously until they stopped publishing). Also, picked up Stephen King's Dark Tower Signed/Limited #238 for both the Drawing of the Three and the Wastelands at list price! Wished I still had those. Nice books by the way in the pics. Paul~
  20. This is the first time I've seen this. Was it published elsewhere or was this the first time it was published? Either way, it's fantastic. And signed too. Paul~
  21. With Conan #7 and #8 (both CGC 9.4) arriving yesterday from C-Link my registry set is complete (#1-24, plus annual #1). A fun ride. Paul~
  22. Back Issue Magazine #86 has a great overview of the Marvel Giant-Size Series. Paul~
  23. Yes, that is Starhawk in at least two panels in Defenders #27. Paul~
  24. I don't have the raw books in hand, but here's a comparison of the two covers. Not even close in my mind. Paul~
