I'm not sure if I'm following the thread, idk, but there are these as well or in addition too "classic 'fish' cover and or other", which is "injury to eye",  I thought it was cool :) I know it originated with the GA I believe.

Exactly, this is what I am looking for.  So we have “Classic ‘fish in face’ covers,” “injury to eye covers,” “Lingerie covers” to “Classic Flag covers.”   What is the whole list?  Is there a list?

How important is the Pedigree designation to you? Would you take it over a non Pedigree that is a tick higher?

I like to delve a bit into the history of the books I collect, and pedigree gives another avenue to do that.

I've even been working on a Police Comics pedigree run for some time now.  I just find it another interesting dimension - the original collections from collectors that saved the books that make GA collecting possible today.

How much higher of a premium or a different book a grade tick higher?  Well, that depends on the book, needs, wants, timing, resources, pedigree etc., Many factors at play there.

In my scrutiny of this new collection, I started looking up grader notes and it appears unbeknownst to me that CGC is now posting the book image along with the grader notes. I admit I’ve not paid attention lately, so I’m probably the only one who didn’t know

oh, and btw, Bobby had a Mask 1. You know he had a good mom. She had to have seen the cover when she wrote his name on it. But instead of throwing it in the trash, she actually gave it to him

OT:  That's cool, haven't submitted for awhile, but if they provide image along with slabbing that is a win imo.

  4. Shazam! was fun, irreverent, different - and I thought a joy.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2) took all that, and tossed it directly into the trash to create a disappointing flavorless cookie cutter hit job to an already troubled DC movie franchise.  Very concerning to me for future of these superhero movies getting made.  But.. maybe less is better.

I just checked the OP for this thread and it was including conversations about married books not just folks looking for parts.  Because of that I hope it is ok to post a question for this group.  I really like this thread.  It is one of the very few I follow.  It also makes up a group of collectors who are not totally turned off by books that are assembled from other books.  Because of that I wanted you folks opinion.  If you have a high dollar book that you have found all the pieces for and get it graded, as a buyer would you be willing to pay more if it qualified? qualified and conserved? qualified and restored?

To be totally transparent I have assembled a More Fun Comics 53.  I bought the comic missing two CF on HA quite some time back. I will include a photo of that cover.  I think found a coverless that was missing 3 outer wraps and 1 CF.  I bought it.  I then found just a CF on ebay and bought that.  So the finished comic has parts from 3 different donor comics.  I say donor, I don't know if they were willing or not, but I took the parts I needed. (:

The two CF are loose.  I could pay to have them reattached with the staples (I don't trust myself to do it) and the book would be qualified.

The cover does have about a three inch tear at the bottom which is not missing any paper.  I could have that tear sealed and it would make the book more sound but then it is qualified and conserved.

I could just go for total resto and probably with moderate professional restoration come out at about a 7.  But then it is qualified and reserved and I would have spent quite a bit of cash for the restoration.

While comic collecting for me in not only about money, I am also not the type to spend it foolishly where there is no chance of getting it back eventually.  I also had the opportunity to buy another MF 53 that is in a bit better shape (Blue Label 2.5) so I am perhaps looking to move the married copy to raise funds for other purchases.  Any opinions or expertise from the group would really be appreciated as I know quite a few of you are collector/dealers so you may have a much better idea as to what the general population of comic buyers would value.

    Thanks again.

Golden Age (1938-1955):Superhero, More Fun Comics #53 (DC, 1940) Condition: PR....

Sweet rewards for a lot of time and effort Ender, really, really good work.

I'm not a one of the big dogs, in comics, on this board, or even in my own house lol so take this with a grain of salt.

I've done a full resto, a conservation, and indeed a number of marriages.  IMO, while temptation may be large, I'd leave it untouched, exactly as is, and if you do ever sell it, simply note what you noted here.

    Again, very well done.

Scrapping off CT should be viewed in the same light as trimming. Shameful and I hope grading companies will disincentivize it in the future.

Exactly, or a tear or bullet hole etc.,  If have a 1" piece missing from the cover can I say, well there used to be color touch there?  This example, on this book, is really demented.

Unless this is your site someone also agrees with you on #16…

After years of searching for a copy of #16 (February 1952) I’ve found just two copies (I love it for its statistics reference).  Shown are other issues I’ve owned starting with #1*, #5*, #14*, #36* (a double cover) and #40* (football themed).  My Friend Irma issues appear to be rare and in demand as they are snapped up quickly and continue to fetch higher and higher amounts.”
