  1. Thanks for the offer really wasn't going on a feeling & maybe I am just looking in the wrong places so your help is much appreciated & maybe you could tell me of the most confirmed recent coverless complete sales on this book? I am just not finding it anywhere & again maybe I am way off on this book & the timing had nothing to do with the final hammer. However, having been selling on eBay for 18 yrs and at our 2 retail stores for almost 13 I have found that BIN prices tend to be higher than auction prices, at least in my experiences. And again any info on recent sales would be great
  2. Absolutely correct Gator. my point was that someone was willing to pay 105, this one ended on an auction at 80+ on an ebay auction on x mas eve, so the assumption that 80ish is the current FMV seems low to me and in the right circumstances I feel you could get better number , now I am not as plugged in as you are so I may not be as aware of recent confirmed private or auctioned sale of complete coverless examples so I could just be off on the FMV.
  3. I understand it sold at a solid record price but imho does not represent the full current market potential of this book, ( I would note it seems like there was a legit 105 offer on the table) truth is if the new owner gives me 4 weeks I would do the 99k ( sell a few more common gems) & could even live with the potential 15k negative equity for the next few yrs .
  4. " I SAY I SAY BOY ITS ALL ABOUT TIMING IF YOU WANT TO BE A CHICKEN HAWK" If the new owner put this up on a BIN for 99.999 it would sell in a very short time. I sincerely feel that timing was a factor on several levels for this book not hitting 100k. I don't know how much of an impact the auction ending on X mas eve was but have to assume it had to have some ( its just a bad time to post this period ) also a bin would gives people time to move money around ie sell off books or other collectibles to make a move on a book in this caliber. I would note that the stock market being all over the place on 401ks ect doesn't help, people I know are nervous about there money right now. If this had been listed last summer for 99k it sells asap imho. My conclusion I think the buyer got a good solid deal & the seller set a world record! MERRY XMAS to both of them!
  5. 100% dead on with this one, the book just broke a record and as to the 105 offer does anyone know the complete story on that? What were the details?
  6. How many of you will sneak away X mas eve to see the final hammer
  7. FRAKIN wow its ACTION COMICS # 1 Coverless or not its a STUNNING and rare complete example & a dream book for all but the most advanced collectors. Regardless of all the speculation, assumptions and conjecture on these boards it may, in fact, be the only/last way anyone without unlimited funds ( not that 100k plus is in the wheelhouse for many of us) will ever hope to own arguably the most iconic & historic comic book ever published ( and I am a Batman guy lol). GOOD LUCK WITH THE SALE & TO THE NEW OWNER ( I admit it I am jealous of what it's going to feel like owning that book ) My prediction is over 100lk ( lotto # 102.612)......................... X mas eve or not PS congrats on the Tec 27 sale it was a solid hammer price
  8. Congrats on the sale, David, quick question, were you happy with the final bid? Any history on the book would be great & good luck with the AC really feel it will set a new standard for coverless as I think it will crack the 100k but why X mas eve lol?
  9. I was actually in up to 25.500 figured if I could steal it why not? Still, think someone got a good deal.
  10. I think your 100% right with that one, but if this book does under 40k a few years from now we will all be wishing we jumped in.
  11. After thinking about it a few days & getting some input here. I think 25/30 will be close to the final the hammer. However, 40/50 would have been a possibility with all the original Batman pages being there imo this book has that potential in the right setting ( they never come up complete anymore). But my personal take is this book is just being sold all wrong, I mean I think its fair to assume at the very least your going to lose a few potential buyers due to the holiday being so close, & while the repro cover is nice to look at the seller should have gotten or posted pre CGC pics of what the buyer was actually bidding on ( when posting a book with 50k potential I think that's fair lol) However the resto is the big curveball on this one as I don't know how much of an impact this will be on the book. Now with all that being said if it does 25/30 someone is getting a darn good deal! I mean look at it this way the Batman pages are much harder to find than say a 3.5/4.0 AF 15 or HULK 181 9.8 and at this point, the only chance most Batman collectors would have at getting a decent shot at a true mega grail. Anyway should be fun to watch and if I didn't have one I would be selling my AF 15 and 181 as I can get them back any day of the week.
  12. Hi I have to disagree this is not the same thing as the recent CC book imo, the big difference being this example has all the Original BATMAN pages and that in my mind changes the value significantly from your cited example, Chicago Boy pointed out the same thing and I think we both agree the move was to sell just the BM pages and then any other original non BM pages separately.
  13. CB> I know for a lot of collectors on this board this is no big deal but it is the highlight of my collection and was a dream book for me.
  14. Its funny I have a NG complete coverless copy of this book and Iv often thought about getting a re-slab with a repro cover but when looking at both examples I am glad I left the book coverless.
  15. 100% Never know which way an auction can go but this one is hitting at a bad time imo and its a very hard example to come up with a solid price imo
  16. 100% Agree, if your in the game for either of these the ebay one is the much better option you get a complete BM story in one shot & with the timing a buyer may, in fact, end up getting a steal/ of good deal, the long-term on any complete BM pages is going no place but up. The CC would have done better if it was after the Ebay auction imo
  17. I feel the same way it's a tuff one, I agree it seems like the seller may have been better off just selling the BM pages and non BM pages separate? Also, this time of year ending a week or so before the holiday & on eBay of all places. you may be just asking for a low Final hammer imho..
  18. IMHO you have to give the seller some credit no reserve......... With the resto & fake pages, 50k high/low???? Any predictions?I have no idea on this one??? https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1939-GOLDEN-AGE-DETECTIVE-COMICS-27-CGC-NG-BATMAN-STORY-COMPLETE-ORIGINAL/264079545923?hash=item3d7c5e1643:g:mFwAAOSwhY9cDCZA:rk:38:pf:0
  19. The truth is like or not this hobby has changed, I am 52 and started collecting in the late 1970s up to the 90s crash for many of us from this era or even a decade before the hobby was in its infancy and was just that a hobby, I say this with no question as it is 100% true any of us from the early days to the 2nd wave of collectors which is where I am from could and did have the ability to really complete almost any silver age comic run during this era with just a little bit of hustle & If you were a bit older say in your mid-20s in late 70s to mid-1980s & had a job and were committed you could to some extent complete & afford MOST Golden age books in decent condition, ( the super keys were even still attainable to some extent but even then it may have cost you your income tax check to get a mid-grade Batman #1 ) But the introduction of graded comics has had a huge impact on the hobby imho ( I will let you decide if its good or bad) but as the books get older, harder to find & the hobby more global & characters even more iconic & the value increases beyond what any of us could ever have believed possible the books are no longer viewed as a hobby but as legitimate investment & that changed everything. I mean let's be 100% straight here if in 1983 you had told me comics would one day be put into sealed plastic cases and be worth more because some other guy decided what the grade was I would have said in my best 1980s cool voice " dude your fuc%in crazy" its a comic its meant to be read! who would want a sealed comic? All this while AC/DC Back in Black was blasting in the background lol.
