  1. Not sure I agree that if AF 15 didn't exist the value of ASM #1 would be even higher than AF #15, It would be right where AF15 is, why wouldn't it be? Now if you assume ASM #1 was SM intro & featured the actual #1 cover it might be even less because while ASM #1 is a top-tier key it has always suffered from a so-so cover and IMHO AF15 has one of the most iconic badass covers of any era.
  2. If your an ASM collectors you don't settle for #1 you want both AF 15 & #1, no bones about it its a big key regardless of AF 15.
  3. 1000000% percent the texture, the smell, the history...............Priceless.
  4. I don't think anyone was suggesting the market was diving or that certain books are not moving upwards or are not hot ,the comment was more about the perception across the board, it may just be as someone said the time of year, but in the past that has not been much of an issue and lets be straight the last auction had a lot of strong books that sold for less than you would expected.
  5. Across the board, the general consensus is the recent Comiclink auction was/is soft & a "buyers" auction, many keys & most books in general, performed on the lower end or below projected current MV. & I know one weak auction does not make or break any hobby. However I also know from several conversations at recent shows over the past few months I am not the only one wondering if the hobby is heading towards an overall cooling downtrend, not a crash but correction, it's been so hot for so long you just have/had to wonder how long could/can it keep going? In fact at a small local show last weekend in Cherry Hill NJ talking about this very topic at a table with several dealers I was reminded "remember these aren't comics anymore they are investments" ( Please Note: this post is not about you showing us all one super hot book that is racing up the chart based on movie rumors or because there was one record price on a rare Archie, it's about an overview of the market in general & the current vibe & whispers I am picking up on here & there )
  6. End of an era, Stan had a great run, Rest in Peace! On a side note: I wonder how long it will take before the vultures are selling anything signed by him for 20x its current value.?
  7. I really feel the page quality, color, centering ect tends to be a bit more of an important issue the higher you go up on the grading scale. I don't see it being as big an issue on mid to lower grade copies of this book at the moment but when you start to get into 92-98 money I do think it can and does have an impact with SOME buyers. I would note that marvel chipping on other keys does have an impact with some buyers on books like Hulk 1 and AF 15 even in mid to lower grades imho.
  8. Please note: it may offend or disturb some forum readers so if you do respond to this post make sure the books or trends listed ONLY include Golden Age era books this would include books generally considered published from the late 1930s to the mid to late 1950s.........
  9. Every one of those books bringing real money is still like an episode of the twilight zone to me.
  10. What sale price ( high or low) or HOT/COLD trend did you NEVER expect to see happen in the ever-changing world of comic collecting......................................................
  11. I would have to kindly disagree, page quality & even color and centering will always have an impact on the book with some high-end buyers, as to GPA not sure who its generally accepted with on a book that been hot for well over a year, but a quick look still confirms 10/12k is HARDLY way out of wack.
  12. The problem with that is then you get the guys with " just wait it's not going to last" or "you only looked at the 90 average, which was kinda what went down with several posts here on this thread. But given that this book is smoking right now your point is well taken and very fair.
  13. Yea after looking I think your right its a bit low even with ow/w. 25/27k I think is a little more in tune with current trends & again depending on the auction and page quality.
  14. I love how you focus on the 10k & not the 10/12k range as noted in my post. The facts are the 12 month Average is just above 10k/12.400 So .........yes hardly
  15. Looking over GPA I think this is about right & an average of where we are at on any given day on the top graded books.....................9.8 20/22k ish 9.6 10k/12 9.4 8k/10 9.2 5.5k/7 9.0 4/5k
  16. I don't think anyone would dispute that the book has been red-hot over the past year or so. However, the idea that each and every sale is going to be a home run is ridiculous. ( if you research the data this is true even with the holiest of grails Action 1 & Tec 27). I would also note that after buying and selling on eBay for 18 yrs I have found your rolling the dice each and every time you put a big ticket book up at auction, there are just so many variables positives and negative either way but overall I have found BIN prices tend to be higher than auction on not only comics but most items sold on eBay.
  17. 100% dead on MGsimba77 and again when doing day to day micro evaluations there will be highs and lows however overall the future looks pretty solid for #181 imo.
  18. I 100% agree the book may be on a bit of a downturn ( after the last years its bound to level off a bit) just to soon to know, I would also note the sale on eBay was on bids which in my experience tend to be apx 8/10% lower than bin sales in most cases.
  19. This argument is just so worn out on comics and in general it has nothing to do with the cost of min wage ( if your living on min wage I am thinking your not buying many comics in general) milk, food or a used car if you think 181 is out of whack ( I assume your talking about the higher end books 94/98) then a $50 book can be high as that all depends on your personal situation. However, it seems and the data would support my assumption there are many people willing to pay for this book at the current market value & that even if the book drops 10% this year its a solid book to buy long-term. Good luck on your hunt for that 9.9
  20. Does anyone in this hobby not expect ebbs and flows on any book especially on a month to month basis? It's part of this hobby. If you bought your 181 3 yrs ago your feeling pretty darn good about the current market regardless of Oct sales vs Sept, minor price fluctuation is and should be expected on both ends of the spectrum. For example, if in Dec we see a positive spike or record sale on one auction site it means nothing either way. Just watched a 6.0 do almost $2500 on eBay which is consistent & inline with the current market as the book was sold on bids. One question? What does the value of a comic have to do with the cost of a used car? If you need a vehicle sure you should buy one before a comic no doubt, but its apples to oranges some comics cost as much as my house but what does that have to do with anything?
  21. Ok ? I am not accounting for ALL the copies out there. But that only confirms my point about the future value of this book, l look at it this way. FORGET any price increases on #181 over the past year, negate that data and look at the books overall performance and consider that even with 15k or whatever # of copies are out there ( you pick a # I don't care) 181 still a good investment over the long haul ( in relation to other books of the Bronze age) regardless of what happened over the past year. However, when you take into consideration my points from my initial post the book is a winner imho. Look you think 181 is going to take a hit and someday you're going to get that 9.8 for 3k have at it, but having done this over the past 30 yrs I would not hold my breath which was the focus of my original post again to each his own.
  22. 1. Wondering when I said you get the rights to the character in my initial post? 2. So your saying the same thing I did? 3.Confirms my point 4. Maybe you don't like the cover? To each his own. 5. yep that's kinda how it goes in with keys. 6. I said 10k you say 11k its about supply and demand 100% my personal opinion high-grade example are going no place but up no matter how many are graded...... it's Wolverine bub! This is not Walking Dead #1 bro it's a 40 + yr old book featuring the first full appearance of one of Marvels most iconic character. So let's talk in say 5 yrs and see if 10k for a 9.4/9.6 is a good deal ????
