  1. Just went through most the posts & comments on Hulk 181 and after collecting comics for 30 yrs it never changes, there are just those guys who can't see it. These guys....................... just you wait this book will go down, the market will correct itself, there are too many of them on and on it go's. Happened with Action, Tec, AF15 & many more. No vision, no concept that this is no longer a small hobby but a worldwide & expanding market that is driven by not only fans or character demand but by massive corporations, and very wealthy investors, who do you think is buying those multi-million dollar books? I am lucky enough to own an AF # 15 (7.5) not because I am wealthy by any means but because I like so many older collectors bought it when the book was affordable( 1987 $1500 and my entire income tax) but the AF 15 boat has sailed and collectors/investors ( which like it or not most of you are) are looking to put their cash into a good solid investment. So straight up let talk about 181, the book is over 40 yrs old and primed for a price surge, 181 It is among one of the most recognized covers in our hobby. It features the first full appearance of arguably the most important and popular character in the Marvel universe since SM and certainly of the bronze age. The cover art is spectacular & features stunning colors that are among the best of any key from any era. So yes there are 10k of them or more and no the 1.0s are not going to increase like the 9.4,9.6 or 9.8 but take this to the bank from an old comic guy, buy the best damn copy you can afford now, because in the not to distant future that price is going to seem like one hell of a good deal. PS on a side note if the bottom falls out on 181 the entire hobby must be in trouble.
  2. Name the one book ( just one please) that you are really sick of reading about, talking about or seeing threads repeated over and over again about??? I assume many of you who have been here for years have to be exhausted by now lol.
  3. So if you go by these current numbers (which seem high to me) whats a complete coverless worth?
  4. All but a handful of the most elite collectors/investors would be thrilled to add this beauty to there collection & truth be told it's out of the price range for most of us, A-5 be dammed it's a stunning copy IMHO. Congrats to the seller and future new owner.
  5. Just so sad http://www.fox2detroit.com/news/local-news/one-armed-comic-book-artist-worked-on-wonder-woman-now-homeless-in-michigan
  6. Yea, I have to agree, been collecting comics for 35 yrs and the " bottom will and must fall out guys" have been around forever, In terms of comics as a long term investment everyone who has been around awhile will agree there are high & low trends, things get hot and then they are not cycles ect. But overall the past 50+ year (mid 1960s is when I consider the birth of real comic fandom) the return on comics has been very good. However I 100% agree a worldwide economic crisis or depression would impact all markets not just comics.
  7. Cool thing about this post it has me looking up some of the books and prices and all I can say is god bless the guys who are paying that kind of money for some of the top Romance books ahhhhhhhhhhh why? why? I know this is politically incorrect ( I am old so I can get away with it sometimes) but to me they will always be girls comics. Could you imagine going with your dad down to the local newstand and asking for the new issue of Sweethearts back in 19 whatever. I also wonder in this niche market do these books have long term investment growth as some of them bring real money? ( just asking?) NOTE: This post is NOT a swipe on anyone or what they like to collect. Just fun & seriously enjoy what you enjoy collecting.
  8. Thanks for all the input guys, I have a general idea of what a fair CMV would be. I enjoyed pulling it out as I had forgot how much I love this book resto or not. It presents well and its just such and iconic cover imho. I figure I will repost this ???? in another 10 more years and see where we are with it . Note: I was thinking & today I would not be able to afford this book at $25k ( and I assume a lot of my other books) which makes me a bit sad that the hobby has reached a point where the average collector ( at least the average guys I know ) would not be able to afford many of the iconic books of our hobby. When I started as a kid in 1979 pretty much every book was in reach with a little saving & hussle & imho that kinda sucks. Anyway thanks again for the help and have a great weekend!
  9. Hi, not looking to sell just wanted to reach out and get a general idea, I love this book, I am just not a guy who watches CMV and figured Id ask for some input Thanks
  10. Just went and pulled the old boy out as I have not looked at it for a few years,Resto includes color touch, tear seal, reglossed & new staples, 3 sides trimmed off white white pages. At the time $5700 actually high if I recall but I wanted the book & had income tax funds to help lol. I am fine if its 20/25
  11. Hi, thanks, just trying to get a general idea , book presents well but again has resto ( purple mod) and is a 3.5 so I understand its not a crazy books. I am thrilled if its a solid 25/30k .
  12. Quick question to anyone I don't follow prices and I have a 3.5 mod resto BM1 that I bought years ago for $5700 any idea what a real value might be? The jokers on Ebay are just nuts, I was just wondering if anyone had a fair real CMV .
  13. Growing up the Romance books were to be avoided at all costs ( those are girls comics right?) but as I get older I think its kinda of a cool niche aspect of our hobby . Not everything has to be Batman or Superman to be cool. However at 16 if I would have asked my local comic shop ( Passiac book center) " got any Young Romance back issues down in the basement" It would not have been cool in any way !!!!!! It was more like "hey can you bring up the back issue box of Smith Conans & no sir I was not going into the Playboy section, no way not me
  14. Note: I got this idea off another site I am on and we had blast with it, so I thought it would be interesting to see what the GA books would be. Golden age only: My piclk would be any of ASH can GA , they just do not interest me at all.
  15. Anyone else want to take a shot at what the Robinson copy will end at? Some of the pages are brittle and the Robinson connection while historically important how much juice does it really add in terms of $$$ value? The big negative being its an incomplete copy & imho it really detracts from this book hitting high 60-80's.. I am thinking this does more mid to high 40ish maybe low 50s? I am interested to see where this ends vs the Chicago Boy (pages) in terms of incomplete trimmed pages vs incomplete ( non trimmed) book with extra non BM pages ect, should be fun. I am not sure the world is ready for a coverless complete Action or Tec 27 hitting 100k just .................. yet.
  16. Hey thanks for the info, so if you want to put a repo cover on an already NG graded coverless book CGC willrequire you to staple it on? That seeems like it would be a bad idea.
  17. Not sure if this has come up ? But with recent rise of interest and price jumps on coverless GA keys wondering what the general vibe is on a CGC NG key(s) that have been graded with no cover & being resubmitted with a quality repo cover? I would think its a personal choice/ prefrence. But does it in anyway add or detract from value IYO? Second question when was the last time a complete cover & sale of any of the top 5 GA books went up for sale? Are they still out there in the wild? 1. Action Comics #1 2. Detective Comics #27 3. Superman #1 4. All American Comics #16 5. Marvel Comics #1/ Capt America #1?
  18. Iv, had some deals with the seller and he was top notch , just very busy, all books were post the next day or two, but he was a little slow on the emails. Over all a A+
  19. Yep the 29 still has some juice left & no question all 3 went on the lower end. However the 35 was by far the deal of the night as its a book that almost never slips by. Had the seller put it up on a BIN he would have gotten the right number at some point 15/20 range IMO. It presents well for the grade and is just such a wicked cool cover. I am always torn between it and #31 they are so different but both are really two of the best BM and Golden age covers of all time IMO but the splash page on 35 is just stunning & represents everything The Batman was before bird boy arrived.
  20. They sure did, I asked about the HA having any impact on the 35 and no one seemed to think it would matter, but at $12.700 and some change it was a steal!
  21. Is it me or is that just a sweet clean coverless book? Killer intro page! Also I am not sure if I ask this here? If not I am sorry( delete it ) But the new grading company that just started up are they grading books the same way ie NG different colors for resto ect? I have to be honest I think I like the idea of no colors on all the books and just stating that the book has resto or there is no cover or its married ect. Would CGC consider it? Great sales move as everyone would want to have the old books reslabed Any info would be cool but it it can't be said on this board I understand as it is a CGC board. Also thanks for the link, very cool I wonder what else is out there?
