Many seasoned collectors remember the 1990s comic crash so it's only natural to get the same vibe with the INSANE price increases across the board, However, this 2021 market is not that market, My instincts/gut thinks we land someplace in the middle when this all slows down a bit ( ie a pre Covid book was 1k and is now 4k levels off at 2k with some books becoming very big winners and some very big losers along the way) OR maybe this is just an over due correction based on how big the internet has impacted the WORLD collectors market? I wonder if I am right to assume if there is another $1400 stimulus check there is still more insanity to come?......................................Miles Variant 30k anyone?

Been after this for a few years & could never find the right book, there are 9.8s and there are 9.8s and the Canadian 75cent newsstand is wicked tuff with crisp sharp corners, which is a pet peeve for me on moderns.

Maybe I am off on this but it works like this for me for being bullet proof................GA- Superman/Batman ( AC# 1 Tec 27 you pic) SA- Spiderman ( AF 15) BA- Wolverine 181 CA- TMNT........ Modern age,...... Deadpool, Venom, Harley ,Miles, X-23 & I am sure I forgot a few & where I am having the most fun right now. ( All modern have to be 9.8 or just buy a raw and enjoy it............ But either way any of the books listed are solid long term regardless of what is happening right now. PS willing to trade a hundred X Force ones with DP card for your 181's come on hey are HOT HOT HOT

No doubt, however, I suspect there are quite a few % of buyers that will no be able to hold on to those Zion cards they paid 20k for and are now worth 5k because he sprained his ankle. The spectrum of speculation across the board right now ( ie Deadpool cards) is just mind boggling to me. If you tell me you over paid for a AF 15 by a few grand I think your just fine, if you tell me you paid $2200 for TMNT Adventures 1 or 25k for the variant of Miles first app, regardless of your financial situation your a braver man then me. ( I love Miles and can't wait to see him in movies but these instant collectable items ( comics, cards, toys) are nothing new) & have a negative historic trend. Should be fun to see where it all lands. On a side note I 100% hope I am wrong about the future, having people get burned is not good for any hobby.

TMNT like almost all collectables ( toys, comics, cards) are at an insane rate of increase right now, I think we can all agree the current Pandemic has had a huge impact in terms of where people are spending their dollars( be it relief checks or just money that would have been used for vacation and the like) There is no doubt in my mind everything is going to come back down ( in the case of items like X force Deadpool cards) they will come down a lot. But the fact is TMNT was a big book before the 90k BS sale & before the Pandemic ( 30/35k made it by far the king of modern era books) & its going to be just fine as the worldwide TMNT franchise continues to be HUGE and is dead center in the right demographic age group that it will continue to be make it a big balls book for decades to come.

Or maybe it will never go down ( unless there is market correction to the entire hobby) & the prices seen here today will look like a great deal in 5 years? What I was trying to say was that in one form or another your post ( and I mean this with no disrespect) has been part of the conversation with 181 and other books for decades at this point, yet regardless of movies or comic popularity certain books including 181 continue to defies the laws of supply and demand and really in all grades ( the top pulls the bottom up) & the book continues to rise, yes there are times when it slows a bit ( AF 15 in all but the highest grades has been (stag net for 3yrs) but then boom one day you look and it's on the move again.

I call this the now (decade old)............ wait till posts which I have read for as long as I can remember on these and many other boards about 181, ASM 300, AF15 GSXM 1.... wait till nobody cares about -----, wait till it there are more 9.8's, wait till everyone unloads theirs.... wait till the next movie sucks. sooooo glad I didn't wait till, 10 years ago to buy my 9.8 181. It could drop 50% and I will still be good and beyond any monetary reason since a guy named Miller did a 4 issue mini series 40 yrs ago about a guy named Logan I have loved the madman with claws!

I guess we will have to disagree that print run is not relevant, as to the Deadpool comparison last time I looked a NM #98 9.8 was about 1000/1300 bucks and was 30 years old with 2 solid movies behind it. Most of those years it was a $50 book. I am not saying I am right maybe the UF variant is a 50k book in a few years, to each his own but imho those $$$$ feel way off regardless of demand. Cards, toys and comics are in a very weird place right now.

No doubt ( didn't want to write a book) But I think it's fair to say anyone who thinks what goes up can't come down in this or any hobby/investment might, just might be fooling themselves. I understand supply & demand but 15k on this book or even 1500 on the standard book ( based on printed copies) indicates there is a lot more speculation then reality going on imho. For example my 4 copies came from a fellow store owner, he has 40 bagged copies and 1 variant plus seven graded examples. The pic below is a customers/ friends horde. He only has 10 copies ps I don't even want to talk about the Previews that some people popped off 10k+ for.

Having lived through the 1990s comic crash ( I have 4 UF 9.8 1st prints reg covers) so no "I missed the boat remorse" with this statement. It's just that these types of insane numbers ($15-20k is a lot of money for most Americans) on these types of books that really make me feel very uneasy about our entire hobby......... across the board. At 53 am I just an old timer being over cautious & maybe the internet has changed things forever?
