IYO...................What was the best COPPER AGE Mini series in the MARVEL Age of Mini-Series? ( no more than 12 issues) The one that stand out to me is Frank Miller's Wolverine #1-4....................Left DC out of the post just to easy........ Dark Knight lol.

So..... it's still an amazing accomplishment. Not trying to be rude in anyway buy your comment was what I was talking about in my earlier post. For god sake unless its 9.0 Action #1 with a pedigree SOME people on this board just seem to always have certain sarcastic vibe to all but the most exclusive books & owners, not everyone. But on this board and in this category (GA) more than most imho. I can tell you this from being on other comic sites and from being a collector for 40 of my 52 years having a complete collection of every DC comic ( even if its only to 2014) in the real world is a BIG DEAL. Even if he was the 4, 5th or 7th guy to do it & they were all coverless with brittle pages. Just take one minute & think about the dedication, time and money to even try and do that today. I can also tell you even in the 1980/90s it was no easy task.

To each his own, but honestly only on these boards would I be seeing post with " well it's not an original owner collection, some books have restoration, its way over priced, Jesus just the fact that anybody has every comic ever published by DC is an an amazing achievement and in some ways even more impressive than an original owner collection regardless of the condition of any specific book, Just my 2 cents

My point was that even before this crisis there just seemed to be a lot of gloom around AF15 for SOME PEOPLE here on the boards. Yes CMV will always be a factor at this point in the hobby & it's a fun part of the ride no doubt. Your 100% right enjoying the comic for what it is, and being interested in its market, are not mutually exclusive. However, during these dark days I was just trying to remind us all about how significant the book is to our hobby, I mean it's arguably the 3rd most important comic character.... ever imho & how cool it is to own any AF 15.

I don't get it? Who cares what it's worth? I mean I have 2 AF15 3.0 ( I have about 30k in trade/cash into both of them, both good deals at the time ) & one 7.5 that I bought in 1988 for $1500 by picking blueberries all summer. I cherish all 3 of them, they are the first appearance of my favorite SA hero, the cover is arguably the most iconic cover of any era drawn by a king, the interior art features my favorite artist at the height of his artistic peak imho. Oh yea it was written by a legend. All these year later I still get chills looking at any copy of this book. So if you own a copy stop stressing what it's worth today, yesterday or next week just say I am in the club" I own an AF 15" f#ck life is good, be safe fellow club members

Truth is.................... nobody here has a clue as to what is going to happen in terms of the hobby. However, I think most of us would agree it's rational to think that until we have a better idea of how long this crisis lasts on a global level will really dictate what the impact is on this and most hobbies for the next few cycles. Most people in my neck of the woods ( southern NJ) seem to still feel like this is just a few week pause and they will all be on the Jersey shore by June 15th with a Corona in hand I personally suspect that this is not the case ( I hope I am wrong). IMHO thus far we have seen really great leadership from some state governors while some still seem to be acting very slow to acknowledge this threat is very real & until we all get on the same page this is not going away anytime soon. Just looking at the situation world wide I can not see some of the very poor nation in South American & Mexico etc being able to contain this virus for quite some time ( do we even have any solid data on what's happening in our back yard yet?) Regardless, does anyone here really think we will ever be able to keep everyone out ? So really until we have a vaccine ( best case 6-12 months) but more likely 14-16 months based on what I have read it's going to be a long haul for our hobby getting back to where it was just a few weeks/months ago. For example my neighbor lost 208k in 12 days in the market & is putting off his planned retirement ( he is currently selling his coin collection on evilbay) So for the near future ( cash will be king ). Really right now we are all flying/buying in the dark as past data is not worth the site it's posted on. A great deal today may be a bad deal in 30 days or a super short term score! I would suggest keeping anything you love or that can not be easily replaced & then hold on because we are all going on a crazy ride in 2020/2021. PS remember they are just funny books on cheap paper, be safe, be smart. LIVE LONG AND PROSPER.

Tec 27 pages # 1 2 & 3 did 38k with BP those ar pretty solid numbers imho

On the Bodnar's volumes which one would have brought the most $$$$$$ had they been sold?

The Great KARNAK predicts that many people on these boards will have wished they could have pull the trigger on that volume in a few years.

IMHO I don't think the DC connection adds more than 10/20% But really I have no idea It could have a HUGE impact depending on the volume and the buyer reason for wanting to own them as they are so rare, historic and unique I am no expert on these ( who is?). I have a funny feeling these are going back to DC unless the old lady can provide some proof they were purchased and not stolen? On a side note over the past decade I have seen Volume primarily that included covers start to get a lot more respect in the hobby as the cost to try and complete runs on early GA have gone ballistic. I am actually surprised the TEC 27 volume is still not sold on Ebay. I passed on similar Tec volume for 10k early 2000s ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Funny thing is had one of the members on the board had bought this collection odds are nothing would have come of it and the volumes would have been sold with very little national fanfare ( no harm no foul) It seems like the media attention tipped off DC and I would think they got there lawyers on it asap.

Bodnar’s Auction House Pulls DC Comics Bound Volumes From Sale Posted on February 6, 2020 | by Rich Johnston Yesterday, we reported that Bodnar’s Auction House of New Jersey would be auctioning off a major part of DC Comics history on February 8th.97 catalogue bound colume collections of comics spanning the history of DC Comicd, that was originally part of the National Publications/DC Comics archive. But we also raised concern about their provenance, as there were no records of any of the volumes having been sold – but that some had been stolen over the years. Even so, 97 of the volumes was still a massive hoard. Well, after we ran the article, DC Comics got in touch and now Bodnar’s has pulled the items for sale – though they are still proceeding with the large Massachusetts comics collection sale on Saturday in New Jersey, which was separate to this. The owner told Bleeding Cool The books were found in an attic in Staten Island, NY. The owner passed in 2007 and the 67 year old widow found them this past year cleaning out her late husband’s hoards. It is not clear how he obtain them and would be hesitant to say they were stolen. Once I have more information I would give an interview. The online portion of the sale will be taken down later today. Our February 8, 2020 auction Catalog portion of the sale is being canceled until further notice. It has been brought to our attention that there could be question to who has proper ownership of the collection of 97 volumes of bounded comics marked Library National Periodical Publications, Inc in the sale. We are working with DC to investigate who has proper ownership and authority to sell this collection. Once we have clarification, we will release our findings. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to buyers who planned on attending the auction however we take great pride to be a leader in the auction industry and we at Bodnar’s want to do the right thing for all parties involved. I live in South Jersey so I go to as many of these auctions as I can from time to time you can get a solid score ( it's a lonnnnng day) BUT there are a few regulars who really have no clue to FMV and can make the hours upon hours you spend there a day of pure hell, funny thing about these bound volumes is not too long ago they would have been seen as a neat curiosity sold relatively cheap & really only to a very small group of collectors.

This is 100% dead on, the top has pulled the bottom up as affordability has changed perception about "what we/I can live with" in our collections. Any long time collector can tell you there was a time not so long ago when coverless was nothing more than a filler copy for all but the rarest of keys. A customer of mine bought his Batman #1 complete with back cover on ebay in 2001 on bids for $475 and an AF #15 with the top cut off for even less, I myself bought my Cap #1 for $900 of these boards in the mid 2000s and got the cover a few month later of on ebay for about the same.

Hi I 100% understand that each collector has different reasons for why they collect & those were just an example I mean you can buy a $20 book and it may be a lot for you it's a big hobby and very personal. However my general feeling is that most people spending large sums of money are looking at the book as some type of an investment/collectable, are their exceptions? You bet. But imho most people paying 50k for a comic book are hoping it increases in value.

Well I'll will be damned. The post had nothing to do with WHY YOU or anyone COLLECTS COMICS the question of the post was it a good time to invest, that's called reading comprehension. Which I have to assume you have a lot of from reading all those classic horror & crome comics. Hope that makes sense to ya.

Just A GUY NAMED JOE........... The BIG FISH ( collectors/dealers with enough money to just buy what they want when they want and not worry if the books increase or decrease "hey, it's just money right?") THE OLD GUARD this group has built GA/SA collections over decades ( most are in their late 40s/70s) & the true back bone of the current GA/SA market. They have amazing collection that have increased way beyond anything they ever could have hoped for thanks to the internet, grading & the current all things Superhero crazy taking over the world. Many members of the 2 above groups have also become semi dealers selling books to buy other books to feed the beast,make money and just having something fun to do on Saturday at a local show. THE NEW WAVE moderns ( 20ish/35 year olds may live at home may not) still read a lot of new comics be it digital or hard print. They are internet savvy & tend to chase the HOT TREND BOOK of the moment 1st, 2nd or 43rd app of Gofer Girl or 1 of 50 variant cover by this years new HOT artist. They are plugged into social media in ways the two above groups could not begin to fathom. They live for the quick flip to INVEST in "older books" they have dreamed about since they were kids in 2001 ( Hulk 181, ASM 129 or ASM 300 & even NM 98) or to just have money to buy POP figures, the latest XBox game or more Cosplay costumes for next years big con. Ask & they can tell you all the actors names on Game of Thrones and Walking Dead. ( much like I could tell you who Byrne, Miller & Kirby are) They see the hobby as much more than just comics but a small part of a much bigger POP CULTURE way of life. All of these groups ( and the many sub groups I didn't fellike listing) have a huge impact on where we are at in terms of CMV. ( I mean WTF? TMNT 1 90k, HULK 181 40K think about that, a decade ago those # were for all but the best GA/SA books) But when it all comes down to the bare bones " it's the economy stupid" or "it's all the same only the names have changed" over the past 40 yrs & this hobby like all other hobbies is driven by one thing....... perception. the biggest impact on FMV is how do you/we/I feel about our lives,bills,family right now... period. We have been riding the GOOD TIMES since 2009 ( not that we all have a lot more money but most of us feel OTAYYY, the news tells us the economy is good, your 401 is up & gas is cheap ). So the answer to you post is this....... all of the above groups/people have NO IDEA if investing in comics is a good idea right now including myself Why? because we have no clue as to what the US/WORLD economy will be like in a few years if it's still flying like a rocket current prices will seem like a steal. However, if the news starts to uses words like slowing down, recession & higher unemployment and we all wake up one day & the market has lost 20%, housing and manufacturing have slowed and your 401 is worth 30% less than it was just few days before then those cool comics may not seem as important and maybe you can live with your 5.0 Avengers #1 instead of upgrading to a 7.0. My point is this our hobby is like any other its driven by pure perception & all of the groups above including the BIG FISH have very little real insight into what will happen to this hobby or any other collectable ( it may affect them less) but really nobody on this board has a f#ukin clue. Hope that helps PS I know, I know just buy what you like and you will be fine blah blah blah, those days are lonnnnng gone imho nobody is buying a 181 for 40k because they like it. ( All of the older pre CGC guys know the dirty little secret there is no discernible difference between one of the ten thousand 9.0 # 181 and 9.8 or at least not a 35k difference, like I said it's all perception)

It's a bit low and more of a 3.0 price these days but really not a big surprise. IMO it's not a bad looking book it's just typical chipping & not really any better or worse than most AF15s in that grade tier (2.5/3.5). There is no doubt lower grade copies have dipped a bit this past year or so & If your in the market for a low to mid range example I really feel it may be a good time to make a move. Like most hobbies perception is 9/10th of reality However, I wouldn't wait too long. History has shown you can't keep a radioactive spider down forever.

Its funny but growing up I spent my summers with my grandparents & and going to PBC & then coming home I had Fat Jack's in Philadelphia ( the old store on 20th & Sampson) Which if anyone recalls in the early 1980s had another comic shop right next to it which was just super crazy as they hated each other and would always be happy to work a deal so they got the sale. ( Avengers #1 NM $175, which was a fortune back then, graded a 8.5 20 yrs later) The other shop always smelled of skunk weed & the owner had the mandatory hippie ponytail vibe you would expect, it was a legit counter pop culture shop of the era, which are long gone. On a side note: I live in Southern NJ & in the early 1980s ( I was 13/14) Both my parents thought it was "JUST FINE" if I took a 1 hr bus ride to Philadelphia to both comic shops. So once a month with my allowance money in hand ( "don't talk to strangers!") call us if you have any problems ( "don't forget your dime!") off I went. "Your father will pick you up at 3 pm at the bus stop. ( "don't miss your bus!"). Wow just a different world huh? My generation just seemed so much more independent & self sufficient & to some extent a little naive. I swear today DYFS would be called for child abuse lol. PS don't get me started on the cigarette filled cars and what the hell was a seat belt?
