  1. I've tried and tried and this change is not growing on me. Like DC comics.

The way a quote is done is idiotic.

Maybe this was purely designed for phone users and they decided to heck with laptop users and they don't want to admit it, but it sure doesn't play on a laptop.

Threads are gone and with them valuable resources, but that isn't mentioned.

I've asked Arch directly in this thread what makes these boards better with the change to the end user and received no reply. Nor have I heard any notable comments from anybody in this regard. One laughable defense is it's not as bad as the boards at_______.

I visit and look a bit now, but it's literally a repulsive site now. posting is too much of a hassle. I can't imagine attempting a sales thread.

I think CGC would have liked to get rid of the boards long ago; this may be the way they decided to let it whither on the vine.

Yeah, clicking the "Quote" button is really hard to figure out. It took me a few days, too. :eyeroll::facepalm:

It's okay to not like things about the new boards, but anyone who says they are unusable has serious problems and, most likely, an extreme aversion to change.

Thanks for characterizing me without knowing me at all.

    Much appreciated.

    Me.

Although I'd venture to say that a thread called "I hate the new boards" probably doesn't attract people who feel more positively for the most part.

But you haven't answered my question from a day ago.

Oh, looks like I did the quote right.  It's so intuitive.

Sorry, these boards are borderline unusable.

And please don't say I'm change adverse. Because I'm not.  I'm pointless change adverse.

  4. This goes beyond resistance to change. This is too radically different with little or no enhancement to functionality.

It is a real turn off to visiting this site.

I averaged two posts a day consistently for 11 years. Since this change I've posted three times. All in this thread.

  5. This series is fascinating...and yet I'm not sure it isn't much ado about nothing...

Given that ideas about how humans should treat sentient artificial intelligence are largely uninformed and crude, the show's central theme isn't nothing. I view artificial sentience about like I view genetic engineering--you shouldn't monkey with it without being EXTREMELY careful. Like about as extraordinarily careful as rocket scientists have to be in landing drones on Mars. It's immoral to create sentience and then coldly turn it off like it's a toaster or a light switch.

Agreed, humanity's interaction with artificial intelligence is compelling, but this series goes about that central theme in a way too roundabout manner. In fact, I'm not sure that is the central theme in the producer's minds.

  6. I think Ed Harris has a long-standing grudge with the creators of Westworld - probably killed Arnold in fact.

His mission is to find the maze - AKA the master control setting that will enable the hosts to kill the guests.

He intends to have the hosts massacre every living human in Westworld - in one single day.

The reason is yet to be explained for his 'grudge', but that's definitely his goal.

But the people running Westworld know he's in there and are assisting him with what he's doing. Why would they do that if your hypothesis were true? They wouldn't even let him enter.

Yeah, I don't think that's it either. I think Harris has something...nobler in mind.

  7. I liked it, but didn't love it. I think its more cool than good. I'll probably end up watching it, but it isn't 'must watch' tv the way I feel about Game of Thrones or Night Of or 'The Good Place' (new show on NBC! very funny)

I'm enthralled by the motivations of Anthony Hopkins character. He's experimenting with something in introducing unpredictability into the droid's programming, but what, exactly? Is he trying to make them sentient? Or is android sentience already a known possibility in their world?

There was a hint about bringing people back from the dead. I think Hopkin's character is motivated to do that in some way regarding a loved one, etc.

  8. Enjoyed it enough to keep watching. Still trying to figure out how the technology's supposed to work...are the sets real or are they holograms?

    Good question.

I'm pretty sure real; you see people walking up and down stairs, otherwise physically interacting with their surroundings.

The layout in the control room is another matter; looks almost like they're looking at an aerial live feed at times.

Which brings up a thought: this had to be built in a remote enough area that never or gets airplanes overhead.
