  1. Seller has a book for sale here.

I send a PM to seller saying "I'd like to offer $X shipped." (which is about as straightforward an "I am willing to buy it for that price" as I can get.)

    Seller declines.

A week later (earlier "today"), seller sends me a PM saying they'd accept my offer, if I was still interested, and if not, he/she is going to list it on the boards (at my offer price.)

That PM was sent at 5:21 PM my time.

At 10.51 PM my time, before I had the chance to check the boards (I'm out of town), seller sends....5 1/2 hours later...another PM saying "the book has been listed again for sale on the boards."

I'm not going to out the seller, but he/she is a noob here, and I hope he/she reads this.

If you offer something to someone...give them the chance to consider it, before rescinding that offer/making it available to everyone, ESPECIALLY if they haven't even read your message yet.

Otherwise...just don't make the offer in the first place. If you do, give them a chance to respond. eBay allows 48 hours for Best Offers. I think that's a perfectly acceptable time period.

5 1/2 hours ain't it. Especially when the buyer isn't even in town.

48 hours is reasonable, unless he/she knew you were out of town.

In that case a longer timeframe should be used IMO...72 hours +, maybe until, for example, next Tuesday, if it was this Memorial Day weekend...

  2. Purchased today, should arrive by next week, and my first major Marvel Key.

Hadn't planned on buying any keys right now, but when I saw this, well...

    Very nice 3.0 :applause:

I hope to get in this club someday...

  3. Cal;

There are literally hundreds (if not thousands) of people here who have

    been here 3 + years

    don't harass or insult people

    don't send threatening PMs

do post opinions on comics related issues

do contribute to constructive activities on the site

do treat people with respect in their posting

and in general never cause any trouble whatsoever

Please explain why these people should now have to pay any fee because of the behaviour of a few nut jobs.

  4. Grandfather-in existing members.

This is a good idea, but I would be happy to pay a small fee to use the boards..whether it was a one time thing or annual is for others to decide. I would be willing to bet that a $10-20 fee for each new account created would discourage most of the shills and troublemakers. 2c

So, the majority should pay for the transgressions/immaturity/insanity of a relatively few?

    hm

    I'm thinking...no.

  5. Why hasn't this thread been pinned at the top of this page yet?

    Hear, hear!

One of the most useful and informative threads in the history of the boards :sumo:

    I agree!

    Yep.

But it makes more sense to pin a thread about trimmed books from 5 1/2 years ago at the top... meh

  6. Everybody should have an opportunity to present their side of the story.

But in this case, I'm having a hard time imagining a plausible acceptable explanation that doesn't make holyghost look very shady....

Like there's no good ending to a sentence that starts "So, I threw him in the trunk..."

  7. So, if the highest grade known to exist of a particular book is, say, a 6.5 that's a high grade book.

If years later a 9.0 copy suddenly appears, what happens to the 6.5? Then it's a mid grade? It magically changes grading level?

As has been stated by others, grade, scarcity and value are separate things...
