  1. Fwiw, it can still be a lot of fun reading the backs of cards, esp. from a historical angle (with vintage) and a player evolution angle (with modern). Some of the super excited descriptions for early Trout cards are a real hoot, for example. On a different note, a downer for sports cards as a collectibles investment (vs., say, OA) is that value is totally dependent on how/if a player is remembered. Trimpe is no Kirby, but his IH 181 cover is immortal for as long as Wolvie "exists." Basically, there's no "historical significance" aspect with 99.9% of sports cards independent of the player; Honus Wagner a rare exception. Which is why I sense that many vintage cards (and all cards eventually become vintage) actually lose / will lose value over time as all but the legendary players are gradually forgotten.
  2. I'm totally tapped out this round... that's what Jim Lee and Frazetta wins one after the other do to ya. Been keeping busy with 60s Archie pickups, at least, but not in the auctions. When I know I'm out of ammo, I don't bother checking out what HA has got. Ignorance is bliss...
  3. This ad is priceless. Almost reminds me of the times we'd gather around an island at my friend's place to play, just like that.
  4. He could bomb every movie from here on out, those paintings (plus seems he has more) = cozy nest egg for life.
  5. Tradd Moore. Picked up a rare Venom variant, scratched the itch... for now. }:-) https://www.myslabbedcomics.com/GalleryPiece.asp?Piece=58404&GSub=2893
  6. Dan DeCarlo x 1000. Following the early 60s. I think he realized at some point, OK, I'm going to be churning out 18162916 Archie pages for the next several decades... go minimalism go !
  7. I'm with you... it's almost like going through an antique or pawn shop. Mountains of drek, but some surprises if you search hard enough (and the updates are so frequent that you can go back again and again). A nice thing about Anthonys is he prices very fairly much of the low- to mid-end stuff. Glad a dealer like this exists in our hobby; seems entry level-friendly for the newcomers, as well. Just picked up this Bob White 60s Archie (B&V) for a little over two hundred: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1670189.
  8. One of the most epiphany-like, and yet terrifying, realizations I had early on in my OA collecting days... was that Frazetta is in a league of his own. I soon found out that capitalism was very much functioning for his art.
  9. Feel free to be as vague and broad as you want, esp. if you want to keep it unidentifiable. For example, if a Silvestri page, "Something by one of the Image founders." Or be completely transparent. Whatever floats your boat. I can go first. I want more art by Modern Artist with Stunning Variant Cover Successes, even if he's not quite popular in the OA world... yet. But it'll be quite difficult to find.
  10. All I know is, someone searched for Aparo P.S. a lot tonight. Per https://www.comicartfans.com/popular-searches.asp Someone...
  11. Answering good grape + ape's call for more thrilling new threads. }:-) Larsen comes to mind. Prime nostalgia, but only for his Spidey titles... and I'm not infatuated enough to shell out the big bucks. Simonson on Thor, due to the general unavailability of his published OA (as is widely known). Matt Wagner on Grendel (Hunter Rose). Very bizarre reason here. Every time I've been "into" Grendel, I'd inexplicably get sucked into a hard time in my life. Every single time. The ultimate "bad luck" character for me. I just know if I pick up Wagner Grendel OA, a continent-sized meteor will crash into earth. BIll Everett. Priced out of his Marvel Mystery Comics work. MMC 2 one of my fave comics in the personal collection. Will think of more... meanwhile have at it, y'all.
  12. There was a recent thread on this. Sienkiewicz got a ton of votes.
