I still have books with stickers from Blue Moon Comics on W. 10th Street. That guy had another store before and he had more $1.00 Bronze than you could shake a stick at in the early-mid 90's
The one in Speedway was Comics Unlimited maybe? I bought a high grade Avengers #4 there one summer in the mid 80's for like $85. Sold that collection my first year in med school, and will always regret it.

Yep! I couldn't remember if it was always RangeLine or if it was something before that.
Andy opened the first comic store in that strip center when I was in fourth grade, then sold it to another owner in the early 90s if I remember correctly.
There used to be a Linder's and a Roselyn Bakery right next to it. Could get your sugar and comic fix in the same place.

Yeah, but do you guys remember Andy Ash's westside place over by the Ensley's par-3 golf course on 56th street? Are you legit old school westside comic collectors, or just poseurs?
You mean Rangeline Comics? I grew up at 59th & Georgetown--used to ride my bike to that store twice a week.
The other good store was the one just east of the track in Speedway. My dad's law office was just down the street so we used to go there periodically as well.

So there it is , my "it's a small world story" of the day. And the funny part is, that's only half the story of my meeting Stuart that day. The other half was equally amazing, and completely unexpected by Stuart. But even longer to type out!
To further narrow the "small world" aspect even more, myself and two of the other boardies at the dinner: @Batmanderson and @comicquant are also from Indy and went to Pike. CC was the first shop I went to on the weekends in the early 80s, and I was at opening day at the West Side location off of High School Rd.

This was my first time at Wizard Chicago, and I enjoyed the show quite a bit. Spent most of my time and money between Dale Roberts and Worldwide's booths, and came away with some great books. Didn't quite nail down some of my wantlist goals of my Avengers run, but there's always next time. With only one exception, found that most dealers were willing to deal and field offers. The crowd was light on Friday, seemed to pick up on Saturday but I did hear mixed reviews from some dealers as well.
Forgive the phone pics, but here are some of my favorite buys from the weekend.

Good show today, looking forward to dealer reports. Seemed to be a steady flow of people from opening
to when I left at 2:30.
I did like the upgrade to the convention center venue. Hope it continues to grow.

Good luck on the show. Don't sell everything though, I still want to grab a few books in Chicago next month!

How much ?
A bit above GPA, and I just rechecked and it's actually a 7.5, not an 8.0--but still a very nice X-Men #4.

ComicLink auctions are great but their regular set up stinks. Plenty of times sellers leave up listing forever and then it's been already sold when you hit the BIN. I tend to not buy front ComicLink other then the auctions for that reason.
Agree wholeheartedly. I also find it interesting how books that I won in an auction 12 months ago still populate the exchange with a "Sale pending" label.

Both have terrific covers, and the Avengers #4 is a certified classic.
I once owned nice copies of both. Why I only received an 8.5 for this one I'll never understand.
And this one wound up with a new label and a 9.2 grade after leaving my collection.
Both great looking books. I wouldn't mind if my 8.5 Avengers #4 magically turned into a 9.2, but I'm content with it as is.

Avengers #4 was the first key that I repurchased after getting back into collecting, so that'll always win for me head-to-head. Having said that, one of the local shops that I frequent has an 8.0 X-Men #4 that I keep thinking about grabbing.

That book is particularly awesome. Gorgeous copy!
Thanks Barton, I was circling that one for a while. One of the better copies in that grade that I've seen on the market.

I remember going to my first con on the east side of Indianapolis in the mid-80s when I was in fifth grade, and seeing Avengers #57 up as a wall book. I think that it cost $40, and I used almost half of my budget on that one book, but it was the coolest cover I'd ever seen and it was well worth it.

They always had a great selection of wall books. There was another hole in the wall place downtown on East Washington called Books Unlimited (right next to a used car lot) where you could find some decent SA runs sometimes too.
