  1. Blunted/Rounded/Creased Corners, Moderate Edge Wear and Creasing W/Severe Color Break, Moderate Spine Stress, Creasing at the Top Right (under CCA stamp), What appears to be Slight Creasing or Color Rub in Numerous Spots on the Front Cover. Even though there are no major issues with the whole of the book, IMO, the bottom and right lower edge keep this book from being higher. VG+ 4.5 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present. 4.5 VERY GOOD+ (VG): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): Back to Top The average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple.
  2. This book is one of the first comics I ever bought new as a kid. Blunted/Creased Corners, Staple Tears, Spine Stress, Edge Wear. IMO... FN 6.0 - FN+ 6.5 6.5 FINE+ (FN+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  3. Certainly hope I am wrong and all the folks that said VF- 7.5 to VF 8.0 are correct.
  4. You pretty much nailed it with your list of defects, Assuming the off centered staples are from the manufacturing process and have not been replaced... Due to the color breaks and staples I cannot give a higher grade, so, IMO... FN/VF 7.0 - VF- 7.5 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. 7.5 VERY FINE- (VF-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  5. Just like your IH 180, is the Marvel Value Stamp intact in this book? Outer Cover/Fold is not centered, Top edge is not trimmed properly, Slightly blunted/creased corners w/color break, Top and outer edge wear with color break, Minor accumulation of stress lines. The biggest problem I see is that the improperly trimmed upper edge and the non-centered wrap significantly detract from the books aesthetic appeal, because of this I cannot go higher than a... FN+ 6.5 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. 6. Is the Marvel Value Stamp present? If not you will receive a "Qualified Green Label" rather than a Blue Universal Label. Blunted Corners With Slight Creasing, Slight Staple Tears, Slight Edge Wear, Slight Color Rub, Minor Foxing/Staining. IMO, the outer corner creasing prevents this book from being a VF 8.0 but since the book does not show any visible stress lines, IMO it is better than a FN/VF 7.0, so... 7. My Son decided to sell his collection, 2000 books, most books are from the late 70's/80's/90's with over 100 hot/key books from the era, I contacted about 8 local dealers, only one was interested and came to the house to look at them, I made a list of all of the keys , we looked and discussed grade and value and when all was said and done he offered $800.00 for the entire collection, we declined, my Son wanted $2000.00 for the entire collection, MCS was not interested in the collection. Since then I have sold over 100 of his books for $2200.00, these sales were all made on Facebook and I have had no issues with this, there are a lot of dealers/artists/writers that are members of Facebook Comic Book Groups, I am a member of 6 groups.
  8. I did not start reading Marvel until 1965, we moved, I found a new friend that collected and he had an F.F. 25 which made me... and that was the start, my weekly 25 cent allowance was split between comic books and baseball cards. In 1969 we moved and due to circumstances I had to leave them behind. Fast Forward 10 years and for whatever reason I started buying/reading new issues again, (to the (ex) wife's dismay) in 1980 I found my first LCS and started with back issues, I still remember buying ASM 14, 20 and Avengers 4 for about $15.00 each, and the rest is history. In the last 40 years I have for the most part completed my Superhero and Pre-Hero runs, on a budget, lots of "Well Loved" copies. The book that started it all...
  9. Piece missing from top edge, moderate corner/edge wear w/creasing and color break, two large creases w/color break on the outer edge, moderate spine stress/creasing, spine split at the top, staple tears, large fold/crease at top left of rear cover. IMO... 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): Back to TopThe average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple.
  10. Edge Wear, Moderate Spine Stress, Staple Tears, Cover is Loose, Color Rub or Crease through Reed's Leg, Blunted Corners, Large Crease on Back Cover, Slight Foxing/Staining. The book presents nicely, however, with the loose cover and amount of spine stress, IMO... VG+ 4.5 4.5 VERY GOOD+ (VG): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): Back to Top The average used comic book. 11. This is NOT a for sale post, just relating our story of selling to the OP. My Son was/is selling his books, about 2000 with runs of ASM 201 - 440, Daredevil 133 - 211, F.F. 201 - 416, Uncanny X-Men 94 - 150, X-Men 1 - 91, Full/Complete Runs of ROM, Spectacular Spider-Man, Web Of Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Sensational Spider-Man, Silver Surfer Vol. 1, 2, 3., Transformers (Vol. 1) 1 - 80, Marvel Superhero Secret Wars (Vol 1) 1 - 12, etc. I contacted about 10 dealers in my area and only one dealer was interested and came to see the books, he offered $800.00 for all 2000 books and we said NO. I have been selling them for him (sold 109 books) and just selling those books (many keys) we have already received 2.5 times what the dealer offered for the entire lot, so we have about 1900 books left, the majority of which I will suggest he sell at a yard sale since they are basically dollar bin books. IMO, you should learn to grade the books yourself (grade a book then post in the "Hey Buddy Can You Spare a Grade" section to see if the group agrees), price the books (using eBay Sold Auction Prices which is actual FMV for the same book in the same grade) and sell them here or on Facebook (all of my sales were on Facebook), eBay would be the very last resort, since they are 80's/90's books My Comic Shop will probably not be interested, they were not interested in buying the majority of our books. These books are filled with great info, even though the Price Guide's prices may be outdated there is plenty of good info in those pages. https://www.amazon.com/Overstreet-Comic-Book-Price-Guide/dp/1603602771 https://gemstonepub.com/the-overstreet-guide-to-grading-comics-6th-edition/ If you post a list of the books you have I am sure folks will tell you if there are any books of value that you should get graded.
  12. I cannot help you with answers concerning a "clean and press" since I do not have it done so I know very little about it, what I see right now... Poorly trimmed lower edge, Color Rub and Staining, Blunted/Rounded Corners, Slight Edge Wear, Numerous Stress Lines W/Color Break. There is no serious creasing so could the book receive a higher grade? IMO this book is a VG/FN 5.0 - FN - 5.5 as it sits right now. 5.5 FINE- (FN-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book.
  13. Slight Edge Wear, Slight Blunting of the Corners, 5-6 Stress Lines that appear to Break Color, Very Slight Staining on the Rear Cover... IMO, due to the color break in the stress lines this book will not grade higher than a VF/NM 9.0, how lenient is CGC? 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): Back to TopNearly perfect with outstanding eye appeal. A limited number of bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is almost flat with almost imperceptible wear. Inks are bright with slightly diminished reflectivity. An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. Several lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable. Very minor foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Only the slightest staple tears are allowed. A very minor accumulation of stress lines may be present if they are nearly imperceptible. Paper is off-white to cream and supple. Very minor interior tears may be present.
  14. The issue with the top edge trim is not straightness, it was trimmed to low, you can see it in the "Dell Insignia". More than likely it was a bindery issue, however, IMO it detracts enough from its aesthetic appeal to keep it from a higher grade. Also, I will never give a book a higher grade than a NM 9.4 without having the book in front of me. This is how the top edge should look.
  15. Top Edge Poorly Trimmed (bindery?), Upper Right Corner Slightly Rounded, Top Staple Discolored/Rusted, Slight Spine Wear. Depending on how you view the poorly trimmed top edge and discolored staple, IMO... 9.2 NEAR MINT- (NM-): Back to TopNearly perfect with only a minor additional defect or defects that keep it from Near Mint. A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with only the slightest dimming of reflectivity. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16-1/8" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed.
  16. Slight Edge/Corner Wear, Light Stress Lines W/Color Break, slight spine roll. IMO, it is the stress lines w/color break that keep this book from being a higher grade. 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to TopAn excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal.
  17. Slight Edge Wear, Dinged Lower Left Corner, Slight Stress Lines on Spine, Slight Crease on Outer Edge (runs through roof of police car), Slight Foxing/Staining on Front and Rear Covers. IMO... 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal.
  18. Edge Wear, Corners Blunted, Creases W/Color Break at Top Right Corner, Spine Stress Lines W/Color Break, Slight Color Rub Near Top Edge... IMO... 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to TopAn above-average but well used comic book.
  19. They are not made specifically for CGC slabs, you would have to cut to fit. https://www.edmundoptics.com/p/20quot-x-24quot-uv-filter-sheet/4471?gclid=Cj0KCQiA-eeMBhCpARIsAAZfxZDc17O5UyIuxRst6gjcgC-fQJ8pgSaGokG2eVlE3QTA8JMB4ymhtPwaAoOHEALw_wcB https://thecollectorsresource.com/UV-graded-comic-book-frame https://thecollectorsresource.com/uv-blocking-front
  20. They do sell UV protected frames for CGC graded books, however, after looking online they appear to be pricey and most vendors seem to be out of stock due to supply chain issues. They also make clear UV protected acrylic sheets you can place over the slab.
  21. Blunted/Creased Corners W Color Break at Lower Right Corner, Edge Wear, Crease on Outer Edge W Slight Color Break, Foxing/Staining, Slight Staple Tears, Slight Spine Stress. IMO, the corner crease w/color break keeps this book from being a FN/VF 7.0. IMO, final grade is...FN+ 6.5 6.5 FINE+ (FN+): Back to TopFits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.
  22. Nice Book, Congrats... Some of the pics are blurry, you should take a full color photo of the front cover with the book out of the bag, also with the book lying flat pics of the corners and spine and include a pic of the centerfold.
  23. Blunted/Creased Corners, Spine Stress, Rusted Staples, Slight Edge Wear, Slight Foxing/Stains Front and Rear Cover, Creased Upper Right Corner On Rear Cover. The book presents well, however, IMO, the rusted staples prevent this book from being a higher grade, rusted/discolored staples are only acceptable in grades of VG 4.0 and lower, without the rusted staples I would be inclined to give this book a FN+ 6.5 - FN/VF 7.0, however with the rusted staples I would grade this at a FN- 5.5 - FN 6.0 at best. https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions Sold eBay auction prices for this book are all over the place, FMV for your book is anywhere from $150.00 - $400.00 (or higher?)
  24. Slight edge wear, blunted corners, spine stress with some color break... 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted.
