  1. Edge Wear, Blunted/Rounded Corners, Spine Stress/Staple Tears at Top Staple W/Color Break, Slight Stress at Lower Staple, Staples Discolored, Foxing on the Edges of the Front and Rear Cover. I do not see any major defects although, IMO, the stress/color breaks by the top staple prevent this book from being a higher grade. 6.5 FINE+ (FN+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  2. Welcome To The Boards!!! Pics of the book would help.
  3. Slightly Blunted/Rounded Corners, Crease W/Color Break at Lower Right Corner, Slight Color Rub (To the right of Power Man's left shoe), A Few Slight Spine Ticks W/Color Break, Some Staining/Foxing on Rear Cover, Edge Wear/Creasing/Scratches on Rear Cover, Damage to the Lower Right Corner of the Rear Cover (Tear/Wrinkles/Pieces Missing). The Blue ink appears to be "Distributor Stripes". DISTRIBUTOR STRIPES Color brushed or sprayed on the edges of comic book stacks by the distributor/wholesaler to code them for expedient exchange at the sales racks. Typical colors are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Distributor stripes are not a defect. The back cover damage IMO really brings down the grade of this book, IMO, grade on this book is... 6.5 FINE+ (FN+): Back to TopFits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. 4. My list consists of books I do not own and probably never will, grade is not important as long as the book is complete. 1)Amazing Fantasy 15 2)Amazing Spider- Man 1 3)Avengers 1 4)Fantastic Four 1 5)X-Men 1
  5. The book appears to be in the VG 4.0 range if you ignore the torn page, IMO it will drop to a GD- 1.8 to GD 2.0 with the torn page. The trimming of the outer edge is of concern, Bindery Defect or after the fact? The trimming probably will not make a difference on the grade, however it may make a difference on the label color. What is the current turn around time for graded books...A year?
  6. I am not familiar with this book, do you have a pic? Normally if something is missing it is listed on the label, such as the "Tattooz" missing from ASM 238 or the Marvel Value Stamps being cut out and is given a Green Qualified Label or a major deduction for a Universal Blue Label. The damage done by the card falls into the same category as a "bagged" comic, some folks believe that the book being in the bag and never handled/opened should be in "mint" condition, unfortunately the bag itself (the seam) causes damage to the book just as your insert card did. As far as collectability, it is a question of personal taste, some want it complete with all additional items enclosed and will not care about the indentation, and others just want a high grade book. The last question would be, could this indentation have been removed with a "press"?
  7. Edge/Corner wear with creasing and color breaks, moderate spine stress w/color breaks, slight staple tears, creasing, color rub and color break through the interior of the front cover, large piece missing from rear cover. Without the piece missing I would have assigned a grade of VG 4.0 - VG+ 4.5, with the missing piece? I have no idea how much of a deduction the book will take from CGC, IMO it will drop to at least a GD- 1.8 to GD 2.0. According to the grading standards a large piece missing from the rear cover is not allowed until you drop to a FR/GD 1.5, this is what is allowed. 1.5 FAIR/GOOD (FR/GD): up to 1/10 of the back cover may be missing. 2.0 GOOD (GD): The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square, 3.0 GOOD/VERY GOOD (GD/VG): A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable.
  8. I am not an expert on restoration, It is the lower staple that stands out, both are off centered but there are not any extra staple holes so one would assume they were placed off center during the bindery process. The upper staple is discolored/rusted and the lower staple is clean. I do agree on the grade VG 4.0 - VG+ 4.5, I do not know how CGC would view this, IMO the staples should have no impact on a book in VG 4.0 as long as the cover is attached, however, I completely understand with the amount of $ on the line. https://www.comicbookdaily.com/collecting-community/detecting-restoration/staple-manipulation/#:~:text=There might also be some, staple has been tampered with.
  9. Very Nice!!! I will not assign a grade higher than NM 9.4 without having the book in front of me, judging by your pics I do not see any obvious defects, I will say... 9.4 NEAR MINT (NM): Back to TopNearly perfect with only minor imperfections that keep it from the next higher grade. Subtle bindery/printing defects are allowed. Bindery tears must be less than 1/16" on Silver Age and later books, although on Golden Age books bindery tears of up to 1/4" have been noted. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with high reflectivity and a minimum of fading. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples are generally centered; may have slight discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed.
  10. Nobody can answer that question with only a pic of the stain. We need more pics to see the overall condition of the book to determine how much of a grade deduction there would be due to the stain. Clear pics of the front and rear cover, splash page and inside front cover, close ups of the corners/spine/staples, centerfold and rear interior cover and last page to see if the stain bled through.
  11. Edge wear, especially top edge, slight rounding of corners, small crease lower right corner, spine stress with color break, slight staple tears, slight foxing, Interior page torn about 50% from book. I do not know if the torn page would garner a Green Qualified Label from CGC since it is not an obvious defect, from what I have seen from a Google search the interior tear is not a big detriment, these books all received Blue Labels with the torn page(s) being mentioned on the label. The book presents nicely, IMO, with the interior tear... Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose. 5.5 FINE- (FN-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.
  12. Slight edge wear with color rub on top edge and outer edge, blunted/rounded corners, small accumulation of slight stress lines, slightly discolored staples. 7.5 VERY FINE- (VF-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  13. Slight edge wear w/color rub on top and outside edges, blunted/rounded corners, small creases upper corners, a couple of very slight spine ticks, unknown stamp on front cover. 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. 7.5 VERY FINE- (VF-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.
  14. I cannot answer your questions on pressing since I do not use this service. Uneven trim of top cover, slight edge wear, slightly blunted corners, slight spine roll, a couple of spine ticks that break color, very slight staple tear on top staple, 3/8" tear on outer edge of rear cover and 4 interior pages. Without taking the tears into consideration... with the tears a 1 point drop in grade to FN/VF 7.0??? 8.5 VERY FINE+ (VF+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.
  15. Love this storyline, Avengers 69-71, Very Nice Book!!! Slight Edge Wear, Slightly Blunted Corners, 1-2 Slight Spine Ticks. I cannot determine "cover reflectivity" by the pics so... 9.2 NEAR MINT- (NM-): Back to TopNearly perfect with only a minor additional defect or defects that keep it from Near Mint. A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with only the slightest dimming of reflectivity. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16-1/8" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed.
  16. I see bindery tears, upper staple not flush, very slight nick at top right corner. The book will receive a Green Label due to the writing/SIG on the cover unless you request a Blue Label then the writing will be viewed as a defect and the grade will be much lower. IMO, the top staple detracts from the aesthetic appeal of the book, so...
  17. Very Slight Bindery Tears, 2-3 Slight Spine Ticks. The clipped lower right corner of the interior pages is a Bindery Defect, we just graded another book with the same issue as yours, only a little more severe, how does CGC view this? 9.2 NEAR MINT- (NM-): Back to TopNearly perfect with only a minor additional defect or defects that keep it from Near Mint. A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with only the slightest dimming of reflectivity. 18. Blunted Corners, Edge Wear, Slightly Discolored Lower Staple, Severe Color Rub in UPC Box and Lower Edge Along With a "5" written on lower edge, Slight Spine Stress/Ticks W/Color Break, Severe Staining On Rear Cover. There is no major creasing, however, IMO, it is the color rub and staining that keeps this book from being a higher grade. 5.5 FINE- (FN-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present.
  19. Very Nice Copy, all I see is the top staple not being centered. I will not assign a grade higher then NM 9.4 unless I have the book in front of me, so... 9.4 NEAR MINT (NM): Back to TopNearly perfect with only minor imperfections that keep it from the next higher grade. 20. This book has a lot of sentimental value to me, it is one of the very first books I bought new as a kid in the 60's, you have a Very Nice copy. I see slightly discolored staples (as seen in the centerfold), slight staple tear at top staple (also seen in the centerfold), slight spine stress (3 ticks that slightly break color), slight edge/corner wear, slight foxing front and back cover, stain/writing in the corner box between "Marvel and "12 Cents". Overall it is a very pretty book. 8.5 VERY FINE+ (VF+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.
  21. They appear to be very small, may have happened from rubbing on the bag during shipping...? Can you see them clearly just by looking at the cover in normal light or do you have to look really close to see them? If they are nearly imperceptible in normal light they may not affect the grade, if they are easily noticeable at worse, IMO, it may drop the grade to a NM- 9.2 or VF/NM 9.0. I have 3 copies of this book, two are bagged, I just looked with a 10x illuminated magnifying glass and none of them have those scuffs.
  22. The issues with the corners appear to be a Bindery issue, however, I cannot be 100% sure. Not knowing exactly what caused the issues with the corners and how CGC would view them, if I were grading this book for my collection and assumed they were Bindery Defects I would assign a grade of NM- 9.2 with a notation stating the issues with the corners. If these are actual Defects and not Bindery/Printing errors I would drop the grade to a VF 8.0, again with a notation about the corners. Hopefully someone that is extremely knowledgeable about Bindery/Printing defects or has first hand experience with this and how CGC views them will chime in.
  23. The book appears to be very nice, from the pics you posted these books are probably in the NM 9.4 range, however... My eyes are not so good, could you please point out the scuff marks? You should also post pics of the rear cover. Also, bagged books get damaged even if they are never handled, the seam in the bag causes damage to the book.
