  1. No, it is from Heritage Auctions... IMO, since nobody actually knows what CGC's grading standards are how can you say that they are the same or different from others???, the only way to know is submit a book and wait for it to come back, I will stick with Overstreet and Heritage. https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions
  2. You are doing the right thing, grading the books yourself and then asking others. When in doubt/on the fence about a grade I always go with the lower grade. You may also want to consider... https://www.amazon.com/Overstreet-Guide-Grading-Comics-Softcover/dp/1603602682
  3. I cannot answer your questions pertaining to cleaning and pressing since I do not have that done. What I see is... Blunted/Slightly Folded Corners, Edge Wear, Wrinkling At Top Edge, Minor Spine Stress Lines, Rear Corner Crease, Dust/Oxidation Shadow on Rear Cover (?) IMO, the book presents nicely enough to be graded a... 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  4. If the lower staple is centered then the off center wrap is a Bindery Defect and should not affect the grade on this one. (I do not know CGC's stance on this) The book Lies Flat, it is Clean, Sharp Colors, No Creasing, Sharp Corners/Edges, only a Few, Minor Stress Lines (I do not know what the mark/crease is on the front cover on the side of the building and through Spidey's right armpit.) Disregarding the unknown mark I would grade this book a... 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to TopAn excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  5. Spine Roll, Spine Stress Lines/Creases, Slight Staple Tears, Discolored Staples, Blunted Corners, Minor Edge Wear, Stain at Top Right Corner. The book presents nicely without any major defects, back cover is White and Clean. IMO... 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to TopAn above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present.
  6. Overall the book presents nicely, Spine Stress, Creases on Edges and Corners, Corner/Edge Blunting, Stains on Front Cover, Rusted Staples and Staple Tears, Color Loss/Rub on the "E" and "P" in the word "Spider"., small 1/16" - 1/8" triangle missing from rear cover outer edge and front cover lower left edge. When I grade if there is doubt on which grade the book should be I always go with the lower grade. This book is much better than a VG 4.0, I wanted to give this book a VG/FN 5.0 but I was on the fence about that (and still am), I feel that with the rusted staples, staining and small pieces missing I have to grade this book a VG+ 4.5. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. 4.5 VERY GOOD+ (VG): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): Back to Top The average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple.
  7. All I see is blunted corners, stress lines, minor corner creasing, blunted edges, discoloration on the rear cover and the "killer", triangle missing from lower right corner, there does not appear to be any spine splits, loose/detached cover, tears, folds, major creasing. IMO the book presents better than a VG 4.0, however, triangle piece missing keeps this book from being a VG/FN 5.0, so... VG+ 4.5.
  8. I cannot help with info on pressing and cleaning and I do not know how CGC views waviness from water damage. Defects I see, waviness on lower cover, bent lower right corner, minor/moderate stress lines, very slight/small creasing on corners, book not trimmed properly (bindery defect). The book has no pieces missing, no spine splits, no tears, no severe staining, staples are centered and clean. IMO, with everything being equal this book grades at a VG/FN 5.0, the waviness/water damage keeps it from being higher.
  9. The book looks good overall, no tears, missing pieces, spine splits, loose/detached cover, just the normal wear on the spine/edges/corners and creasing you would expect from a "well read" comic book. IMO this book grades at a VG+ 4.5. 4.5 VERY GOOD+ (VG): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.
  10. The only ones missing... AF 15, ASM 1, Avengers 1, F.F. 1, JIM 83, IH 1, TOS 39, X-Men 1
  11. From what I see, Creasing, Edge/Corner Wear, Color Loss, the spine looks nice, there are only a few stress lines, no spine splits or spine roll and the back cover looks great. IMO I think this book is a VG+, due to the large crease/dimple at the top edge I do not feel it will make a VG/FN 5.0. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. 12. Welcome To The Boards!!! It is always supply vs. demand, there are a couple of reasons for books being high in price, age, scarcity, speculation, etc. If you let us know what book is he interested in purchasing we may be able to shed a little more light on why this is a $200.00 book.
  13. Love that Thor 126, Silver Age is my passion and the era I grew up in. Enjoy your books, comic book collecting/reading should be fun and relaxing, you still get to live the "thrill of the hunt", it is great feeling finding unexpected treasures in the wild.
  14. 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. 15. If you are referring to Mylar Bags (Mylites), they are good forever. If you are referring to Poly Bags, they should be replaced every 5 years due to the chemical breakdown of the bag which can/will damage the book it is intended to protect, if you have poly bags from the 80's/90s I would not recommend using them, new Poly bags are not expensive and you can get Poly bags that are resealable which eliminates the need for tape.
  16. Boards are not expensive, I would recommend using boards for every book weather they are stored in Mylar or Poly to help prevent damage.
  17. I had my meds adjusted so I feel much better now, I am currently looking for something just for "those moments" other than the extreme meds like Klonopin and Xanax. About 2 months ago I had a severe anxiety issue (not quite a panic attack) and my family gave me a "1/2 gummy" and a few hours later a "Nerd", the side effects were not good (vivid dreams, loss of short term memory), they said I took too much.(70 mg's) I then tried CBD Oil which did absolutely nothing. I am now going to try Delta 8 THC (25 mgs), it is in transit, so, still waiting.
  18. With the creasing, edge stress, corner wear/creasing, top right corner (?), sticker, loss of cover reflectivity, but no major issues such as spine splits, pieces missing, rusted staples (?). Depending on weather there are or are not other defects the book could be higher or lower... With only the one pic I cannot go higher, IMO this book is a VG+ 4.5. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. 19. I see a couple of small creases with color break (top/bottom of outer cover), rounded/creased corners, edge stress, spine stress, not sure if that is a tear or crease by the "left foot of Immortus", (a tear will lower the grade), there is no significant staining, no pieces missing, does not appear to have a spine split and there are no major issues on the whole of the cover. IMO this book grades at a... VG+ 4.5 to a VG/FN 5.0. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. 20. Happy to hear your books sold for the expected/more than expected amount. In the future anxiety can be reduced by...(Just kidding around, not being serious, trying to lighten the mood) Alcohol, THC, CBD (I personally do not prefer any of these choices) My daily anxiety cocktail is... Zoloft and Hydroxyzine...
  21. I am going to preface this by saying, I do not work for or receive any $ compensation from CIS, just want to help fellow collectors and pass on the knowledge/experience I have gained in 40+ years of collecting. I have been using CIS for close to 15 years now, never had to file a claim, the process is less complicated than going through an insurance company (like homeowners) that does not deal with collectibles on a daily basis. I always say the best insurance in the world is insurance you have but never have to use, if you use it, something went wrong. If they were a PITA about settling claims would they still be in business and as popular as they are? You determine how much insurance you want/need, they give you a quote based on $ amount of insurance, where you live (are you near large bodies of water, etc.) and where/how the books are being stored. I currently pay $190.00 per year for $35,000.00 in insurance (and peace of mind). https://collectinsure.com/?gclid=CJu3heLP8cUCFYuPHwod4kgAww I originally sent them a list of all books/collectibles with some pics, in 2015 I graded all of my books myself (took 6 month's for 2000 + books) and sent CIS a list of all books with grade, I have the complete list (42 page PDF) and pics of every book stored on my laptop and on 2 additional flashdrives. As I add new things to the collection I take pics/catalog the items and send them the info through e-mail and they add it to my file. You can send them all of the info and pics on a flashdrive or through e-mail. You can change the amount of coverage at anytime. If you have CGC graded books, then you already know the grade and you can find FMV at... https://comics.gocollect.com/ If the books are raw, then the best place to obtain FMV is eBay sold auctions, eBay sold auctions are what people are actually paying for that book in that grade, you would have to grade the book before checking. If you have a large and/or expensive collection, IMO, you should learn about grading/handling/storing your comics yourself. Both of these books are invaluable as far as info is concerned, the price guide actual $ values are probably outdated but the info in the book is valuable none the less. https://www.gemstonepub.com/en/the-overstreet-comic-book-price-guide-51-daredevilecho-sc https://www.gemstonepub.com/en/the-overstreet-guide-to-grading-comics-6th-edition You can also attempt grading a book then open a thread in the... https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/ Post clear pics of the front cover, back cover, splash page and inside front cover, centerfold, inside rear cover, note if there are any interior issues such as tears, missing/filled out coupons, pinups missing, etc. and see what the group thinks, if they do not agree with your grade, ask why, you will be accurately grading your books yourself in no time flat. https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions https://comics.ha.com/c/ref/glossary.zx
  22. Disregarding the "fingerprint" and "waviness/creasing" on the back cover... Fading/color loss on the top edge, corner wear especially the top left, slight edge stress, a few stress lines w/o color break... The fading/color loss will not allow me to go higher than a... FN 6.0
  23. Since the majority of the issues seem to be with the spine, edges and corners with no major creasing or other issues across the front cover, IMO the book grades better than a GD 2.0, however, the lower left corner/edge prevent it from being a GD/VG 3.0, so... GD+ 2.5 3.0 GOOD/VERY GOOD (GD/VG): Back to Top A used comic book showing some substantial wear. Cover shows significant wear, and may be loose or even detached at one staple. Cover reflectivity is very low. Can have a book-length crease and/or dimples. Corners may be blunted or even rounded. Discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor to moderate soiling is allowed. A triangle from 1/4" to 1/2" can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" to 1/4" square is also acceptable. Tape and other amateur repair may be present. Moderate spine roll likely. May have a spine split of anywhere from 1" to 1-1/2". Staples may be rusted or replaced. Minor to moderate staple tears and moderate stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. 2.5 GOOD+ (GD+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Good but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 2.0 GOOD (GD): Back to Top Shows substantial wear; often considered a "reading copy." Cover shows significant wear and may even be detached. Cover reflectivity is low and in some cases completely absent. Book-length creases and dimples may be present. Rounded corners are more common. Moderate soiling, staining, discoloration and foxing may be present. The largest piece allowed missing from the front or back cover is usually a 1/2" triangle or a 1/4" square, although some Silver Age books such as 1960s Marvels have had the price corner box clipped from the top left front cover and may be considered Good if they would otherwise have graded higher. Tape and other forms of amateur repair are common in Silver Age and older books. Spine roll is likely. May have up to a 2" spine split. Staples may be degraded, replaced or missing. Moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Centerfold may be loose or detached. Moderate interior tears may be present.
  24. Definately recommended for any serious collector. Illustrations of different books/covers showing the defects allowed in each grade, also, tons of info on comic books such as... The evolution of grading, how to grade a comic book, shipping comic books, restoration (w/pics) This is the newest one, I have the 2016 edition and the 1st edition from 1992 when it was still a 100 point grading system https://www.gemstonepub.com/en/the-overstreet-guide-to-grading-comics-6th-edition
