  1. Welcome To The Boards!!! Since nobody responded and I am always willing to help/assist new folks... Just looking at the pics you posted I would grade the Flash Comics 85 at a VG 4.0 (assuming no other defects I cannot see) and the Batman 41 at a GD 2.0 due to the missing pieces at the bottom. https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions I would suggest you take more pics of the front cover, spine/staples, back cover, splash page/inside front cover, centerfold, rear page/inside rear cover and post them in the "Hey Buddy, Can You Spare a Grade" section. Once you have an estimated grade then you can decide what the best option is, it will all depend on what your plans/goals are, get maximum profit, sell quickly, etc. After a quick look these books are not readily available on eBay or online comic shops, only one Flash 85 up for auction on eBay and that is a CGC VG/FN 5.0, there is a Batman 41 in a very similar grade to yours that sold for $142.55 on July 5, be aware, just because there are not a lot readily available does not mean you will get lots of $$$, all depends on demand, who and how many want the books. 1)A local comic shop will probably offer you dimes on the dollar for the books pictured and for any non-key books from the 80's - present about 2-3 cents each. (that is my experience) 2)You can list them for sale on this site. 3)You can join Facebook comic book groups and sell them there (not all groups allow you to post books for sale), I have had very good experiences selling on Facebook but I wait until I see someone looking for something then I message them, I do not list my books for sale. 4)You can sell to a place like https://www.mycomicshop.com/ who will give you more than an LCS but less than if you sell them yourself. 5)eBay, a lot of rules/regulations. Just as a very rough estimate I looked in my 2016 Overstreet Price Guide and... Flash 85 in VG 4.0 - $174.00 Batman 41 in GD 2.0 - $123.00 As far as getting them graded,it all depends on the cost of grading vs. the return since you are only looking to sell, the one advantage, graded books tend to bring more and sell faster, as far as cost or the process, I do not have my books graded so you will have to wiat for others to chime in.
  2. Welcome To The Boards!!! I do not have CGC graded books but found two answers that contradict each other so... I have found that on forums where folks just look and do not answer that once someone replies others follow, Let the debate begin... http://www.thecgccomicshop.com/comic-storage-advice/4590505570
  3. Welcome To The Boards!!! I personally have never placed the board in the middle of the book and have never seen that method used in my 41 years of collecting but it is obviously done, if you are going to use a board in the middle you will need a board that is buffered on both sides since the board will be touching two pages. If you are going to take those measures to protect/store you books be sure you do not skimp on the bags, use Mylar. This is all of the info I was able to find for you... "Comic Backing Boards come in different thicknesses and acid-free properties. The basic purpose for using a backing board is to give the comic some stiffness, which helps keep the comic pages from bending, creasing or wrinkling. When a backing is placed in the center of the comic it protects the comic book spine from crushing. The second purpose for using a backing board in a comic is its potential to neutralize acid in the comic book paper. Acid in the paper that the comic is printed can cause the deterioration of the comic. Using an acid-free backing in your comic can potentially trap and neutralize acid in the paper."
  4. My Son and I were having breakfast at Denny's, saw the headline through the glass door on the newspaper box outside, bought a copy. Unfortunately when I moved back in 2018 I could not take everything and the newspaper was one of things that got left behind, I do however still have the pic and the memory of where it came from.
  5. Welcome To The Boards!!! I assume by your statement you are referring to CGC graded books at 9.8. Unfortunately the number of books that are graded by CGC does not signify rarity, it only shows that more people with first printings are having their books graded as opposed to the number of folks with 2nd/3rd printings who do not bother having those books graded. If you happen to be looking for a 2nd/3rd printing in CGC 9.8 then you would be willing to pay more since there are only a few, most people probably are not. To determine value you first have to determine demand vs availability, what were the print run on all of those printings? If a new book comes out and there is only one copy and CGC grades it a MT 10.0 but nobody wants it, that book is worthless. If a new book comes out and there are 50,000,000 copies printed but demand is high and 100,000,000 people want that book, that book would then go up in value. The best way I can relate this is by the early 1990's when they came out with trick/gimmick covers, #1 variants, etc. (X-Men 1 with 5 different covers, Ghost Rider 15, Glow In The Dark Cover) and everybody wanted them and people hoarded them which artificially inflated the prices on "New Books". Then the publishers distributed 2nd/3rd printings because of demand and the value of the 1st printings skyrocketed, then... Everyone decided now was the time to sell these books that they hoarded because the price was now high, the market then became flooded with books that had millions of copies printed that nobody wanted, it almost ended the comic industry. To sum it up, value = demand vs. supply/availability and what an individual is willing to pay.
  6. I have all of the holograms from series 1, 2 and 3 (and a couple of doubles) in the official Marvel Binders, they were bought new and went straight into the albums.
  7. Nice Books!!! Whichever way you go, CGC Grading or Mylite and Acid Free Board remember the basics of properly storing comic books. Away from ALL UV light, Away from All Sources of Heat, Away from Moisture, Stored in a Controlled Environment. If you want to display the books then you can get UV Protected Frames, even for CGC Graded Books. Enjoy Those Books!!!
  8. That is what I have been paying for Priority Mail Flat Envelopes.
  9. Since I do not buy graded books or have my books graded I can only respond with what I have read, that would be that the Blue Universal Label is better. Just seeing the front cover of your book through the slab I would estimate that book to be a VG 4.0 without the missing coupon. Here is the info from GoCollect on Tales Of Suspense 52. https://comics.gocollect.com/guide/view/124797
  10. I have always thought that prices for this book were lower because it did not introduce a new character. The other three horror titles introduced new characters when they ended their horror run, JIM 83. TOS 39, TTA 35.
  11. You peaked my curiosity. On the actual numbered page 12 there is no advertisement, on the 12th page there is an advertisement for "Grit" with a coupon to fill out, it does not affect the story, the opposite page is an advertisement for X-Men 4 and Avengers 4. You can resubmit it and ask for a Qualified Green Label that will grade the book as though the defect was not present but the defect will be noted on the label.
  12. Graders are human, once the robots and computers take over all emotion will be removed from the equation, providing the software is written by another emotionless computer or robot and then all grading will be black and white.
  13. I cannot really answer your questions since paperbacks and hardcover books are not put together like comic books, however... https://www.google.com/search?q=front+pages+coming+loose+from+books&oq=front+pages+coming+loose+from+book&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j33.10656j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
  14. OMG!!! I am LOVING all of these Well Loved Copies of the Pre-Hero Atlas/Marvel Books!!! Glad to see I am not the only one that has and appreciates Well Loved Books.
  15. The #1 is the only graded book I own and it was bought that way, the price was right and I needed it to complete the run. It is also an incomplete book, the first page of the last story is missing, it does not affect the Ant-Man story.
  16. I am not a fan of slabbed books but with these I must say, NICE!!!
  17. If the Mylites you purchased are for Silver and measure 7 1/4" x 10 1/2" then those boards are made for those bags. https://www.bcwsupplies.com/blog/2017/02/19/comic-bags-boards-size/
  18. Post pictures of the books in question in the "Hey Buddy, Can You Spare A Grade" section and get an estimate on grade. Once you have an estimated grade look at eBay sold auctions for books in the same grade (use the pics on eBay to be sure they are the same grade), this will give you FMV of what these books are actually selling for. Advice...You should learn to grade your books, take a stab at it and come up with a grade and when you post it see if the group agrees. Grading your own books can be difficult at times because you always see your books through "Rose Colored Glasses". You need to look at them without bias to determine a true grade, I always grade conservatively and if there is a question on grade I always assign the lower of the two grades. Do not just grade the covers, check the interiors for torn/missing pages, coupons cut out, writing, etc. https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions If you have any questions or need any help Please feel free to ask.
  19. Welcome To The Boards!!! I do not have my books graded so I cannot give you any info on price or submitting. Whether to grade or not is always a personal decision so I would ask, what is your reason for considering having the books graded? Are you planning to sell, to improve investment value, protection, do you ever plan on reading these books again? CGC slabs do not offer any added protection vs a Mylite and Acid Free Board other than you can never touch the book again. Both CGC Graded books and Raw Books in a Mylite W/Board need to be stored in the same/exact proper conditions... Controlled Environment, Away From All Heat and UV Light Sources, Away From Moisture, Not Stored In an Attic, Unfinished Basement or Garage
  20. Welcome To The Boards. That all depends on what books you have, do have a list you would like to share with us?
  21. My suggestion would be to check eBay Sold listings to get a gauge on FMV. Just an FYI...just because a book/magazine is still in its unopened original polybag does not mean it is in Mint condition, damage to the item still occurs sometimes from the bag itself.
