  1. eBay sold listings are the most accurate in FMV since they show what someone actually paid, of course you have to pay attention to how many people bid, was there a bidding war, etc. https://comics.gocollect.com/ will show you what graded books have sold for, however in this case it says FMV Pending. There is one in eBay sold listings, a Raw VG 4.0 that sold for $223.51 https://www.ebay.com/itm/United-States-Marines-3-Classic-Tojo-WWII-Cover-Golden-Age-Comic-1944-VG-/313041797133?hash=item48e2bec00d%3Ag%3A-xAAAOSwdaxegXq5&LH_Auction=1&nma=true&si=eSSTId0Ee4bFqhe9P0R0Z8pjr8c%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 mycomicshop.com has several listed for sale but all are consignment items meaning the seller can ask whatever they want for the book be it higher or lower than FMV. https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?q=united+states+marines+3&pubid=&PubRng= Hope this helped.
  2. I started reading this and did not realize the original thread was opened in 2012. Anyway...Have fun, enjoy your collection and she helped me with my issues...
  3. Miswrapped - Bindery defect where staple and fold do not intersect the center of the cover causing some of the back cover to appear on the front of the comic or front cover to "ride around" to the back. With the creases on the spine and one that breaks color I would say you are in the FN/VF 7.0 range. From GoCollect (CGC Graded Books) Iron Man #2 Second issue of Iron Man titled series; First appearance of Demolisher; Death of Demolisher; First appearance of Janice Cord Guide Watch FMVs 6.0 $80 8.0 $130 9.2 $270
  4. Welcome To The Boards!!! CGC is going to remove the book from its packaging to grade and the factory polybag will be discarded. If you want to keep the bag then you should remove the book and ship it securely as you would any other loose/raw book. Just an FYI...Books in unopened factory polybags are not automatic NM/NM+ books, the books get damaged from the bag itself and could come back with a much lower grade.
  5. Spine Ticks W/Color Break (especially obvious on the back cover) slightly blunted corners... 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to TopAn excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present.
  6. Creased/Blunted Corners, Worn Edges, Staining (Distributor Ink?), Numerous Spine Ticks/Ceases W/Color Break... 6.5 FINE+ (FN+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose.
  7. Without closeups of the spine/edges and not knowing if the book is complete... This is what I saw, taking the "Mystery Line" out of the equation there are two spine ticks that appear to "slightly" break color, and slight blunting of corners, just on that I would say... 9.0 VERY FINE/NEAR MINT (VF/NM): Back to TopNearly perfect with outstanding eye appeal. A limited number of bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is almost flat with almost imperceptible wear. Inks are bright with slightly diminished reflectivity. An 1/8" bend is allowed if color is not broken. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted but no creases. Several lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable. Very minor foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Only the slightest staple tears are allowed. A very minor accumulation of stress lines may be present if they are nearly imperceptible. Paper is off-white to cream and supple. Very minor interior tears may be present.
  8. This is all the info I was able to find. From mycomicshop.com... Uncanny X-Men Miniature Reprint #1 Tags: Minicomic, Reprint Published 2000 (est.) by Marvel. 2-1/4" x 3-1/2" reprint of Uncanny X-Men #1. Cardstock cover.
  9. I downloaded the pic and enlarged it to get a better look, I did not see anything that would be construed as a standout defect other than the staining at the top left of the back cover. Without having the book in front of me or high resolution scans of the book in sections I cannot grade this book higher than a NM 9.4 although it may be NM+ 9.6.(?) 9.6 NEAR MINT+ (NM+): Back to Top Nearly perfect with a minor additional virtue or virtues that raise it from Near Mint. Only subtle bindery or printing defects are allowed. No bindery tears are allowed, although on Golden Age books bindery tears of up to 1/8" have been noted. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with high reflectivity and a minimum of fading. One corner may be almost imperceptibly blunted, but still almost sharp and cut square. Almost imperceptible indentations are permissible, but no creases, bends, or color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Spine is tight and flat. Staples must be original, generally centered, with only the slightest discoloration. Paper is off-white, supple and fresh. Only the slightest interior tears are allowed. 9.4 NEAR MINT (NM): Back to Top Nearly perfect with only minor imperfections that keep it from the next higher grade. Subtle bindery/printing defects are allowed. Bindery tears must be less than 1/16" on Silver Age and later books, although on Golden Age books bindery tears of up to 1/4" have been noted. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with high reflectivity and a minimum of fading. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples are generally centered; may have slight discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed.
  10. Welcome To The Boards!!! It will be hard for anyone to grade this book with the pictures you have posted. Remove the book from the bag. You will need a larger pic of the entire front cover and close ups of the entire spine/staples, corners/edges plus a look at the interior pages, usually just the splash page and centerfold will do and mention if there are any torn/missing pages or cutouts.
  11. I see very slight edge wear, very slight spine wear and very slight discoloration of the staples, without having the book in front of me IMO this book grades at... 9.2 NEAR MINT- (NM-): Back to TopNearly perfect with only a minor additional defect or defects that keep it from Near Mint. A limited number of minor bindery/printing defects are allowed. Cover is flat with no surface wear. Inks are bright with only the slightest dimming of reflectivity. Corners are cut square and sharp with ever-so-slight blunting permitted. A 1/16-1/8" bend is permitted with no color break. Small, inconspicuous, lightly penciled, stamped or inked arrival dates are acceptable as long as they are in an unobtrusive location. Slight foxing. Spine is tight and flat. Staples may show some discoloration. Almost no stress lines. Paper is off-white to cream, supple and fresh. Slight interior tears are allowed
  12. The pics are of the front cover are not rel clear but what I see is... Slightly blunted top right corner, slight discoloration on the edges and small color breaking staple tears on the lower staple. Without clearer pics I do not want to "overgrade" so IMO... 8.5 VERY FINE+ (VF+): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional virtue or small accumulation of virtues that improves the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal.
  13. I grade conservatively and when in doubt I always go with the lower grade. I see one color breaking spine tick, slightly blunted corners and the "indentation"... IMO and according to the grading standards the indentation prevents this book from being a VF 8.0, however it presents better than a FN/VF 7.0 so... VF - 7.5 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to Top An excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. 7.5 VERY FINE- (VF-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount.
  14. Is that a crease on the front edge of the front cover under the "N" ?
  15. OMG, watching that video made me hurt inside, If I could not see my Granddaughter I would go absolutely nuts.
  16. Welcome To The Boards!!! Glad to hear you found your old collection. I do not submit my books for grading so I cannot help you with the cost of grading, however... My advice would be for you to come up with an estimated grade of these books either yourself or posting pics in the "Hey Buddy Can You Spare a Grade" section. https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions Once you have an estimated grade use eBay sold listings to get an idea of what books in the same grade have sold for both graded and ungraded and that will give you an idea whether to grade or not. Just remember...Grading can/will increase the value and can be profitable as long as the cost of grading does not out weigh the value of the book. Having a book graded and encapsulated does not offer any more protection than having that book stored in a Mylite with and Acid Free Board, both need to be stored in the proper environmental conditions (Away From ALL UV Light, Constant Temps/Humidity, Away From Water/Moisture and Heat Sources, No Unfinished Garages, Basements or Attics)
  17. Welcome To The Boards!!! People will (or should) tell you not to use Scotch Tape to tape the Mylites shut. Use a tape that can be removed easily and will not leave a residue on the bag that the book can potentially get caught on when removing/placing in the bag.(Ask me how I know) I used regular tape for years and still do being EXTREMELY careful when removing the books so I am not 100% sure what people are using instead of regular tape, "painters tape" may work or "removable stickers". ENJOY your "new found, old collection" !!!
  18. If you would like to try to understand a little more this will give you an idea although what the exact CGC grading standards are compared to the accepted grading standards is unknown. https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions
  19. I cannot tell you whether that ink can be fully removed or not, however... Take into consideration that if the ink removal is attempted or done the book may not come back with a Universal Blue Label, it may come back as a Gray Conserved Label or a Purple Restored Label, no way of knowing until it is submitted and graded. https://www.cgccomics.com/comic-grading/labels/
  20. Are you sure you have the correct boards? The standard short boxes that I have and have been using for years measure 8" wide (7 5/8" inside diameter) x 16" long. Silver Age boards measure 7" x 10", Golden Age Boards measure 7 1/2" x 10 1/2". https://www.bcwsupplies.com/comic-book-short-storage-box
  21. For future reference... and the seller was/is Wrong... Priority Mail rates increased this year, envelope is $8.00 (1-2 books packed properly) and medium box (6-7 books packed properly) is $15.00 for anywhere in the USA including Alaska and Hawaii so how does he explain needing more $ to ship to CA, was he driving it there himself?, is he asking for hazard pay for having to go to the post office?
  22. And in N.J. liquor stores are deemed essential.
  23. Welcome To The Boards!!! The best I can tell according to your specs of 18 cm x 23.3 cm (7 3/32" x 9 11/64") the proper bag/mylite/board would be "Regular", Golden Age: 7 3/4 x 10 1/2 inches (19.7 x 26.7 cm). This size accommodates Golden Age comics from 1943 up to Silver Age comics published in 1960. Silver Age: 7 1/8 x 10 1/2 inches (18.1 x 26.7 cm). This size accommodates some late Golden Age comics published in 1951 as well as Silver Age comics published as late as 1965, including annuals and 80-page giants published during that period. Regular: 7 1/4 x 10 1/2 inches (18.4 x 26.7 cm). This size accommodates comics published after 1965, including the late Silver Age and Bronze Age comics of the 1970s to mid-1980s. Current: 6 7/8 x 10 1/2 inches (17.5 x 26.7 cm). This size accommodates comics published since 1990.
  24. Nice Books!!! Just from looking at the pics you posted my initial thoughts on grades are... 110 - FR/GD 1.5, 97 - VG/FN 5.0, 111 - FN 6.0 Assuming the cover is fully attached and secure https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions
