  1. When this was announced, flippers everywhere in the galaxy felt a great disturbance in the force.
  2. I once bought a Hulk 182 off the bay that I found had mustaches drawn on everyone throughout the interior. I was in disbelief that I had scored the rare stache variant that all collectors dream of
  3. Agreed. I wouldn't ever color touch an unrestored book. I have improved upon terrible CT in the past though. I bought an X-men 1 at a good price a couple years ago that had pretty bad amateur C-1 CT that covered a bigger area than I expected before cracking it open. It was too poor to be removed so I went at it with my painting knowledge, using acrylics mixed with a medium gloss polymer and not only did it present better but I had it re-graded and the CT went from C-1 to B-1 and the grade from a 3.5 to a 4.0. I don't know how grading is affected by quality of CT but I was happy with the B-1 at least and was able to sell it for a profit.
  4. 7 or so years ago I passed up on both of those books at Half Price Books many times for 25 cents to $1 each. No regrets. Collect what you enjoy. Them having speculation value now doesn't make me like them
  5. Agree its value is driven by past speculation that made the previously mentioned FOMOs freak out and keep it going. How many collectors were really desperately craving to own this issue before Suicide Squad rumors dropped? Anytime a question like the one posed by the OP come up the answer is always: Movie driven speculation.
  6. Thanks for the info! I've done some research and everything I have read supports what you're saying.. I'm heading to Big Ben's today
  7. I'm in Ann Arbor through tomorrow, first time here and I looked up a couple comic shops. Vault of Midnight Comics is the closest to my hotel so I'm going to check it out tomorrow. If anyone has been there before I'd like to hear your reviews. As far as what I'm looking for. I'm only interested in Bronze and Silver age Marvel. Nothing modern, no trade paperbacks, toys, etc.
  8. I have a book with what I think has a printing error, but I don't think it's one that adds to the collectablity. I wasn't able to find any reference of this (could just be a failure in my searching abilities), but I have a copy of Iron Fist #1 that looks to have been printed with two sets of staples. One set on the inside and one on the outside. It doesn't appear to be staples that were added after manufacturing. I can try to dig the book out and post a pic. Is this error fairly common and does it make the book any more desirable at all? Years ago I threw it up on ebay and got zero interest 😂
  9. Nice . Reminds me I've got a copy of #28. But it definitely ain't no 8.5.
  10. Haha at least the Unicorn hung around for a while. Did Mr Doll ever make a 2nd appearance? Not that I remember but maybe some Mr Doll fans can chime in
  11. The start of my TOS Iron Man related run. Number 47 has special meaning to me because it's one of the few books I have left from my teenage collecting days in the early 90s.
  12. Here's a small start. I'll have to dig my run out. I think I've got 39-66 or so (can't quite remember where the run stops) but I love these two together.
  13. Wondering if anyone has had restoration removal done on a book with slight/mod color touch. The "mod" part is making me wonder how much the grade might drop if there are numerous areas of CT that could make the book significantly less attractive. Currently the book is a 9.0 with only the A-2 CT.
  14. It was probably a blue label that just fell out of the case by accident and on the way out the plastic neatly cut off one of the edges a little bit. Totally reasonable explanation.
  15. Probably the obvious best thing to do is buy huge runs of a bunch of series and then over time as movies and other hype machines raise the value of books you're already covered because you've got that issue as part of your run I say that jokingly (wasn't real advice) , but as someone who is a completionist from a collecting standpoint and not because of value it is a nice lil surprise to see a bunch of value collectors getting all riled up by the next hot book and knowing I already have it because it was part of my run, not because of a movie rumor
  16. If you're going to invest I think you would be best off getting into a book at the right time, which requires a lot of knowledge /luck and isn't easy to do. Like a couple years ago prior to the release of the Spiderman Homecoming movie AF15 got a huge jump in value but not all of the sellers realized it yet so it was a great opportunity. I was able to buy and flip one for a nice profit. So if you could find a book that is selling low it would be a great way to grab something to hold onto as an investment. Of course having said that, if it was that easy then we would all be doing it daily
  17. Haha I was just playing around. I've got the book myself. I don't think anybody is excited about those Blood Brothers taking up the cover.
  18. Lord Ha Ha, who had both his first and last appearance (spoiler alert, he dies) in Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos #4. I think the comic world needs more Ha Ha action .
  19. Luckily I never had a big one. The worst for me was a high grade Marvel Milestones TOS 39 reprint I got cheap to flip. I meant to start it a 99 cents auction but mistakenly listed it bin for 99 cents. It was probably worth about $20-$30 at the time. The funny part was I told the buyer that I mistakenly listed it for 99 cents but I would honor it (for some reason I didn't want the buyer to think I was an insufficiently_thoughtful_person who thought it was only worth 99 cents. Like it mattered ) and his response was that he would be sure to buy from me in the future. Not sure how he thought that would benefit me? But I guess he figured I would be listing all kinds of things buy it now for 99 cents and he could keep coming back to the well.
  20. Was lucky to get these both years ago on ebay. For a fraction of what they probably go for these days. Both are great covers but GSX1 is one of my all time favorite Marvel covers.
  21. Hulk died about as much as Betty tried to stop General Ross from "killing the man she loves". Well OK not quite that much, he didn't die every single issue.
  22. Needed some help from KirbyJack to find this thread... Here's my copy. Got it 4 years ago and still very happy to own it. Unfortunately I've never had a raw copy of this so I've never had a chance to read the story yet.
  23. Aaahhhhh thanks man. I figured it had to exist.
