  1. This is a guy who started his new company by having people click an online button, turned a comic book company into a donut dealer, gave out the painted art rocks as collectible giveaways, and had a Kickstarter to shut down his business at NYCC with fans protesting around the convention. In my opinion it’s refreshing to see someone enjoy the hobby and bring some fun back into the industry. He’s fairly public, so I guess I’m surprised to see anyone taking this seriously. That’s what I meant.
  2. More sad than funny. Not entirely sure what I did to offend you but hope you still had a good weekend and enjoyed the event. Happy to chat privately if you feel you need to vent.
  3. This guy gets the joke. It’s funny to me that people in this thread actually took Dinesh seriously. Lighten up friends. This was about having some fun in the hobby. We don’t need to take everything so serisously. We aren’t saving lives, we are collecting funny book art. This is a fun weekend we can all enjoy and laugh together!
  4. Hawkman #4 for the win! Good luck! Here’s some Zatanna love coming your way!
  5. The auction did extremely well. That has to be the earlier Spawn original artwork to come to market, right? Didn't Todd keep all of his originals?
  6. Wow! Was anyone else watching these hammer prices today? The two biggies I was tracking blew by what I was hoping to pay. Spawn #2 cover - $168k (no actual Todd pencils... painted over printed pencils) Watchmen #1 p. 23 - $84k So, no bubble bursting?
  7. All emails and messages responded to. Sorry, no trades on this one unless you have first appearance original comic art.
  8. $18k That shadow in the bottom is my reflection taking a picture. It’s a very good looking copy as I am overly particular about copies in my collection.
  9. No PL/HOS members! “I'll take it" in a thread will always supersede any negotiations in PM or emails. Payment: Paypal/Venmo, Zelle, Bank Wire. Must be made within 24 hours. Shipping: USPS Express including within the US. No international sales. Refunds: There will be no refunds since the book is graded and sealed, but am happy to send additional pictures. Any questions or comments, please feel free to reach out. Thanks for looking.
  10. @Dr. BallsI try to load pieces on CAF for a few reasons. One is the very aspect you mentioned in that I think there is an element of stewardship we end up taking on with art. Showing a piece exists is helpful for the community in that regard. Sometimes I will be searching for a specific modern piece and wonder if perhaps it was done digitally. Seeing other pieces from the same issue help answer that question. Seeing the exact piece helps me identify if I have a shot at the piece once I reach out to the owner. If not, I allows me to move on mentally to something else. Another reason I tend to be more public with my art is to hopefully reduce counterfeits. If a big piece from my collection is know to be in my collection, there is less a likelihood a counterfeit will show up for sale on the open market or if one does, it is more likely to be called out quickly as a fake. These are pretty big positives for me.
  11. Not only that, he has detailed this previously in that Burkey helped him out of a previous financial bind but is not an owner of CAF. Bill is a standup guy and cares greatly about the hobby. He also cares about the integrity of CAF. If anyone is concerned about the pricing data option, simply don't enter the data. I find it useful personally, but it is completely optional for any user.
  12. Holy smokes! Under $3MM is insanely good. I thought I read somewhere it was more. Congratulations!
  13. Yes, the link to the Discord was posted in a Comicart-L email yesterday, and they saw a massive uptick in new members. Places I engage for OA outside of this forum: Telegram group (Telegram is a messaging app similar to WhatsApp) - about 25 of us in our main group. FB OA Group FB Deal or No Deal Instagram CAF direct messages Discord - just joined yesterday myself I have found our Telegram group to be my primary source of interaction because it tends to build closer relationships and doesn't let people hide. If a member is not engaged or rude to others, they will be swiftly removed. There also seems to be a bit of an immediacy factor, but I do agree that long and more thoughtful discourse is more viable here given the format. I do agree with Gene's post above in regard to "personalities" as well as the other mention of slower intervention by moderators. We saw both of these shortcomings in full view recently with the "CAF commenting" threads. It's unfortunate when that happens, but it is sort of a necessary evil with free speech online and a wide range of personalities. Often the masses will self-police as was the case mentioned above, but there are still repercussions. I am sure any newer members who read threads with personal attacks will be reluctant to post themselves. I hope as our hobby continues to evolve, we find ways to connect with new entrants and help bring them in rather than silence them actively or passively. I am hopeful for social groups mentioned in this thread as a way of building on our community.
  14. I believe the price was over $3MM and the owner is Fish as it was posted a while back.
  15. Hey friends, Dinesh and I are back with Bill tonight to share some of our pickups over the past few months. This one is full of incredible pieces that we have been holding back for the show. Grab a drink and join us! I promise it will not disappoint.
  16. Nope. Someone who sold his slabs for OA.
  17. Maybe Abercrombie picked it up for their next marketing campaign?
  18. That was my first thought as well, but I confirmed he had stayed out of the end bidding out of courtesy to another friend. That means at least two other bidders went that high.
  19. @Nexusexcellent post. @grapeape thank you for doing this. We should be building each other up. Very glad to have Marcus as a major contributor to our hobby.
  20. Couldn’t agree more. Love it or hate it, the hobby is not what it was 10 years ago. People will continue to look back on the past with rose colored glasses as is the case with most hobbies, but things change. That doesn’t make it better or worse, just different. I’m glad some collectors appreciate different aspects of the hobby, but when it become a source or judgment of others, it gets trite. Similarly, I’m also glad there are new collectors finding enjoyment in things like NFTs. They aren’t my thing, but I’m not going to lord my own collection preferences over something in which another finds enjoyment. It’s the equivalent of telling someone who likes pepperoni pizza that sausage is better because you prefer it
