  1. Haha! Marcus Wai is a gentleman and collector who posts on the CAF website quite a bit. My personal perspective is I really appreciated the comments as a new collectors in the hobby. It actually made me feel really confident about my art selections and pointed out various aspects of my pieces I was too new to understand or identify.
  2. That’s awesome! Probably a great time to be buying then.
  3. Agreed. Jordan has a great collection which is why the extension of “historic” to such a wide range of pieces in his gallery actually diminishes the pieces that truly are incredible. They sort of get lost in the noise.
  4. Overall, I have a feeling people saw big dollar signs and tried to get choice pieces into the last two auctions. With the current economic state, art collectors are smart to hold. However, I think we will see another surge in prices as the economy stabilizes and people adjust to current climate. Lack of supply leads to pent up demand…
  5. I know a lot of my crew showed up in San Diego. Certainly we are on the younger side of the hobby and lean toward modern era, but several members scored some solid pieces at reasonable prices. I think to Gene’s point, SDCC will continue to be less about OA and comics. Many of the large comic dealers also stopped doing SDCC given the online platforms available like FB, YouTube, WhatNot, etc. The convention simply isn’t price effective for the core of the hobby any more. Torpedocon seemed to be gaining momentum prior to the pandemic and was scheduled the weekend before SDCC. Sadly it was canceled this year from my understanding.
  6. Mandel was on a recent Felix podcast complaining about this very thing. I couldn’t help but think of that particular gallery. Sadly, I think it takes away from some of the great pieces in there. If everything is historic and special, then it feels like nothing really is.
  7. I honestly got a pretty sweet deal from Los Hermanos last year. A buddy experienced the same. I guess it just depends on the piece. I actually thought their price was missing a zero but was pleasantly surprised.
  8. I just watched some of the CAF U video about storage. Good education on OA care that is fitting for this thread. Quick question: has anyone used the newer Itoya PolyGlass sheets? They say “archival” compatible but any idea what they are made from?
  9. Here is a photo of my post. Hope it helps.
  10. @The MetaI made a few posts last year to help navigate the OA hobby as a newbie. You can take it with a grain of salt but these were some pointers in how I found many of the pieces I was after. 11. There is no doubt Felix is the best in the biz when it comes to balancing artist benefit and fan demand. I have never personally participated in a drop but have plenty of friends who have, and it seems to be the most fair and equitable option. I have purchased several pieces from him outside of drop. For any new collector getting into the hobby, his artist lineup is top notch, and he has a solid offering or art in a variety of price ranges.
  12. I’m also a ready buyer and ready for anyone looking to 🔥 sale.
  13. There were some incredible pieces on display from the Spider-Man exhibit at the San Diego Comic Con Museum. It is definitely worth checking out. This one from David Mandel’s collection is one that really stood out. I’ll try to post some more this week.
  14. I really want to focus this year on getting my stuff up on CAF. I’ve spent so much time hunting and not enough time displaying virtually.
  15. Young Avengers DPS by Jim Cheung and John Livesay. Definitely one of my favorites.
  16. My guess is we have one more really great auction run on Heritage before pieces start going back into black hole collections. No one with choice pieces is going to want to sell if they think they will get more in a stronger market down the road. Ironically, this lack of supply will be the thing that pushes prices back up.
  17. Or maybe not. Could be a long term play.
  18. I guess I don’t see dealers and collectors as mutually exclusive. You, yourself are both. There is no judgment in that.
  19. I’m not sure anyone has taken offense to be fair. I also didn’t see anyone write specifically you said these things but certainly were part of the conversation between two people. While I don’t sell my art, I also do not have a problem with someone who does. Collector, investor, flipper, rep, dealer. If someone chooses to spend their money, take the risk of ownership, and make a profit, good for them. It’s not my business. Felix, do you have a problem with someone who sells art for profit? Edited for punctuation.
  20. If you listened to the podcast, this is the terminology that was used for first appearance collectors with the rare exception. Again the bigger point is, perhaps no one should be negatively commenting about the sales practices of others. In doing so, they subjugate themselves to the same litmus test.
  21. I think this was cleared up by Nexus/Felix above. The piece was advertised and sold as the first appearance of this character though the amalgamation of Miles and Venom ("Kill-something"... I forget the name) had appeared in several published instances prior (in terms of the series). Nexus/Felix mentioned the piece in question was actually used in a promotional advertisement, not comic setting prior to those instances. I guess that would ultimately depend on the collector's interpretation of what constitutes a "first appearance" piece. Tangential, but this reminds me a bit of the nuance comic collectors discuss regarding Miles Morales with Ultimate Fallout 4 vs Marvel Preview 95. Does an advertisement count as a first appearance? Really open to the interpretation of a collectors. Did the new X-Men team first appear in Giant-Size X-Men #1 or Foom #10. Another example of the same situation. Most collectors I've seen tend to side wtih GSXM1 given it is the published series, not an advertisement.
  22. It happens. No harm done. I think cbaileypacker pasted the email solicitations for readers to draw their own conclusion at the request of Nexus requesting examples of new character art being solicited for tens of thousands of dollars.
  23. Hi Chris, I’m Mike. Please reread. I think you may be mistaken.
