  1. This one is heading my way-my second Everett this year:
  2. Speaking of faded reds on PCH covers, is that a common thing on Atlas books? I just jumped back heavily into comics last year and I'm finding a lot of cases where an otherwise midgrade copy looks nasty because of the washout on red colored cover blurbs.
  3. Strange Suspense 19 is one of the tougher electric chair covers; that, plus the added appeal of Ditko, means it shows up on a lot of want lists. It's one that I'm after, but I'm gunning for a nicer copy than the one that you linked.
  4. I just received notification that this one is on its way:
  5. Can anyone explain thie 108 price to me? I've been actively collecting DC war for 22 years now and I don't get it. It's a non-key, the cover image is only ok. I know that there is a shortage of graded war books, but this isn't a scarce issue. For that price you could pick up every Big 5 key in decent shape! If it's a high grade obsession, then the price will only be sustained until a 9.2 or higher gets slabbed.
  6. Tormented 1 is tough. I see 2 up for sale a lot more often. I have had some of these for a while; I took a break from buying PCH for a while to concentrate on original art, then jumped back in last year. I've got my hit list for this year of 11 books that I'm gunning for, and most of them are PCH (the rest are GA, and horror-esque). Best of luck on the Tormented.
  7. That's a nice GIC 87. As far as your question goes about the chances of NM for books from 1965-67, it's hit or miss. On key books like this, good luck. To give a more concrete example on a run that I'm working on in high grade, Star Spangled War, there seem to be a lot of NM issues if you are willing to pay the premium price after issue 112 or so. Highest grade for under issue 100 drops to around an 8.0, and on Mlle. Marie issues and the first handful of dinos you're lucky to come across fn/vf, slabbed or not. Once you get to the Enemy Ace issues high grade copies are easy to find.
  8. The COC 23 is a 7.0; it's the Bethlehem copy. I've been looking for an upgrade for a while!
  9. Of course with certain issues of DC war "high grade" can be VF. I've even given up on some issues. Finding original art has proven easier than locating high grade copies of the issues the art was published in!
  10. Can anyone enlighten me about this DVD? Tales From the Crypt DVD These always list from $50-75. Has anyone watched this? Why the high price tag?
  11. Weird Mysteries 4 is just so creepy! I'm a fan, even though I haven't picked a copy up yet. It has the added bonus that the original art has survived, a very rare thing in the realm of PCH.
  12. I absolutely agree that CoC 24 is a tough book. I finally found a decent copy last year after looking for a while:
  13. I agree on how cool WT25 is! I've been looking for a nice copy for a couple of years and each time one came up, something else grabbed my money first. It's one of my top ten wants for 2016. Probably my 3rd favorite Harvey cover (behind ToT16 and CoC23).
  14. I guess I just keep comparing it to CoC23: same title, neither issue terribly scarce (but a lot are locked away in collections), but a much better cover on the 23 (IMHO) and no real hype/interest/price bump for the 23? The 19 prices are high, maybe justifiably so, but I don't understand why the 23 doesn't at least match or beat them.
  15. I've been trying to take decent pics of more of my collection so I will try to post a few. I like the creepy feel of this one.
  16. The CoC 19 is one that I just don't get. Is the demand driven by Misfits fans? Not to denigrate the cover, but it wouldn't even be on a list of my top 50 favorite PCH covers. There are still a LOT of overlooked covers that don't have nearly the demand. Add to that the fact that they are incredibly hard to find in grade. Some that are hard to find at all.
  17. This my copy. It isn't new, but I wanted to post it anyway!
  18. That's not dumb at all! I've got issues where I have done the opposite: I already have a reader copy so I upgrade with a slabbed one.
  19. I have a random question for my fellow collectors of PCH. My collecting interests are all over the place: GA superheroes and large sized books, DC war and horror, original art, and of course PCH. Do you have a "sweet spot" for grades that you try to go by? This might sound odd, but for me, I generally try to get PCH comics between 5.0-7.0 if slabbed, and if unslabbed I try for at least a vg. I don't go for slabbed low-end books, because if it's what would be a 2.0 or 3.0, I want to be reading the sucker! I love the smell of old comics, especially when it's PCH. I have some outliers, of course, that are higher than my slab range, but I use that as my reference point. Am I the only one that does this?
  20. The three pages at the top of my want list are the last page of "Mausoleum" by Craig from Vault of Horror #29, the last page to "Surprise Party", also by Craig from Vault #37, and the last page of "Squash...Anyone?" by Ingels from Tales From The Crypt #32. Oddly enough I missed out on two chances to buy the Ingels page in 2004/5 and now it has disappeared. If anyone knows where any of these are, I would appreciate any leads!
