  1. The seller has had some great books, and a few went under the radar. All that I've seen look to be around the same grade (which is to say STELLAR for these titles). He's fast on responses in case anyone has any questions before this round ends today. I'm hoping to pick up a few myself....
  2. I agree. WWT is my favorite bronze title. I like anthology books because you will always find at least one standout, sometimes more. The only times I didn't like WWT were those few occasions where they did full length stories. That, and when they switched to continuing features like Creature Commandos. But give me the "prime" era of WWT with art by Alcala, Yandoc, Talaoc, Henson and Draut with a Tanghal Death intro splash and I'm one happy camper!
  3. Congrats! I love that Davis evil eye cover.
  4. As a follow up, SSWS 199-200 might be my "most read" war comics ever. Talaoc and Michelinie made magic on their run of Unknown Soldier stories in SSWS 183-203, but the battle/team-up between US and Mlle Marie was the stuff of legend, and ended with Marie vowing to kill the Soldier if she ever saw him once the war was over. Great stuff!
  5. If you want a small sample of just a few awesome stories, try the following: OFF 152 "A Small Place In Hell" by Kirby Weird War 3 "The Pool" by Heath OFF 146 "Burma Sky" by Toth GIC 74 "A Flag For Joey" by Andru/Espo OAAW 79 "What's the price of a B-17" by Kubert SSWS 199-200 "Deathride" by Talaoc SSWS 148 "A Puppy Named Schatzi" by Kubert OAAW 90 "3 Stripes Hill" by Kubert OAAW 235 "Kamikaze" by Glanzman Just my 2 cents, anyway....
  6. Very sweet book-congrats! Killer sig line too.
  7. Oh man! Estrada, Alcala, Robbins, Redondo were SO good. They dipped into the Yandoc and Henson pool too often toward the end, and Creature Commandos was the nail in the coffin for me. I guess it would be tough for anyone to follow Heath, Kubert, Glanzman, Toth, with a cover each by Cardy, Kaluta and Wrightson to boot. The first year of WWT was epic. I'm going to have to crack out a few for some light reading tonight!
  8. I just read it, fifties, and you are right-great story!
  9. After a mishap with my mailbox, I opened up this beauty, a recent purchase from a boardie:
  10. I agree-Dominguez, Kubert (and the woefully small number of Evans covers) made this an excellent run, especially the first 70 or so issues. The intro splashes bumped an already awesome title even more once they were introduced in #43 (by Talaoc, with Tanghal doing the lion's share of them).
  11. One giant skull, four skeletons, and a graveyard= Yummy PCH goodness!
  12. I've always had a soft spot for Farrells, and this is a great copy! The interiors were always so over the top, and sometimes their covers went a little crazy too. The art is a little sketchy at times, but they are always fun to read.
  13. dont see enough of this one. Yep. It's kind of one of the under-rated JC covers. Some great stories in it inc. this classic JD story. I think EC were really hitting their stride at this time, story-wise. I agree. I've always felt that most PCH titles really reached their high water mark right before the code, and this is right in that sweet spot.
  14. IIRC there was talk about that either in this thread or in the undead thread a few months ago. General concensus was that it's the scarcest of the run and yes, usually fetches pretty big $$ compared to OPG. But then OPG is pretty far off about PCH these days relative to what they actually sell for, IMHO.
  15. I've already resigned myself to the fact that of all the books on my want list for this year, this one will probably be the one I don't find. Amazing copy of an incredibly cool and scarce book. I send you congratulations and jealousy in equal measure!
  16. It would be interesting to see a breakdown by cover theme to see how common rotting corpses were as opposed to vampires, ghosts, skeletons, or werewolves. I gravitate toward the reanimated corpses, which is why I don't really put runs together. The "classic" scary themes don't really do anything for me (except maybe vampire bats, Weird Terror 6 is one that really works). For me, it's hard to beat the corpse action on CoC 23, ToT 16, and Beware 6.
  17. PCH art. Now you guys are in my wheelhouse. Let's not even talk about Ingels and Craig, because that wouldn't even be fair. Elias, Kremer-masters of comic art. Nostrand-hit or miss. Everett, Crandall, Heath? Perfection. Now for Craig. I don't dislike his stuff, but he seems to be best when he's up close. Chest up or head shots with a little background. CSS22 is the icon it is today because of one man: Estes Kefauver. Those hearings, and Bill Gaines time under pressure and that awesome answer? THAT is why the book is key. There were far better and far gorier horror books swirling around it. It is its place in history that makes it key. The lesser titles, Weird Mysteries, et al, went for gore instead of art, composition, perspective, story. If you want fun, over the top reading material, they are great (as are Farrell titles).but I don't get the gorilla brain and heart ripped out covers getting all the love that they receive, when books like TFTC37 barely get a blip.
  18. As a follow up, for Horrific 3, I agree. I don't get why book that is the image source is one and a half times less valuable than that rotated blown up image. I definately prefer War Fury 1. There are a lot of PCH books that are overpriced and overhyped. Conversely, there are a TON that are underpriced and unappreciated (but some people are catching on...).
  19. That's an awesome group of books! I haven't looked at an OPG in so long that I didn't even know that they ranked GA war comics. Good to know.
  20. Those Sparling covers are great! Between him, Cardy, and Dominguez I had many a DC horror inspired nightmare as a kid. One of my favorites of Cardy's:
