  1. I agree with John on the scarcity of 83. When I was working on my OAAW run 83 just wasn't a book that was offered for sale often. Most issues were pretty easy to locate at fine or above, but the 83 was elusive, even back when 81 was considered the first Rock appearance (pre-Pedrin Guide in other words!). I'm happy with my vg/fn copy, even if it looks a bit puny next to my higher grade DC war keys.
  2. For me it happened at Geppi's Comic World in Washington DC in the early 80s on a trip with my dad. As a side note I also saw a copy of Action #3, which was incredible enough, but then there were the ECs that I bought: Crime Suspense 4, Haunt 13, Vault 31, and Weird Science 15. I was hooked.
  3. I have all of the EC reprints. Love 'em. However, nothing-absolutely nothing-can come close to the feel of opening up a 63 year comic, having the sensory experience of the smell, the feel of the paper, and knowing that others also have enjoyed it over the years. As a side note, I'm not against slabbing, but I've never sent a book in. I own a few CGC books, mostly higher grade or pedigree books, but I can honestly say that I have read every unslabbed comic book that I've ever owned. And it's awesome.
  4. This page just screams "Atomic Age": a flying saucer, commies, and a nuclear explosion! From Wings 124, here is Captain Wings in the final page of "Death Below Zero"
  5. That article was one of the reasons why I picked OFF 51 for Russ to recreate so I went off memory then verified online.
  6. Mick's article on OFF 51 was in CBM #24, the June, 1995 issue.
  7. Here it is; this is tied with ToT 16 for my favorite piece of PCH original art.
  8. Jayman the full page is 18" x 24"; I cropped out the rest of it just to focus on the skeleton but I can post the whole page if everybody wants to see it.
  9. I hesitated adding this one since its original art, but since I already used the swiped version of this from Beware #6 on Thing Thursday, I thought y'all might like to see this; its Jack Davis from Vault of Horror 26, "Graft In Concrete":
  10. Thanks all for the compliments on the Heath cover. Has anyone noticed the changes he made from the original version?
  11. That is correct-Russ will only do one color and one black and white/wash recreation per cover. My OFF 51 was the 4th one that he did when he started doing recreations back in the mid-90s.
  12. After OFF 51 was mentioned earlier I couldn't resist sharing this beauty:
  13. It's not even midnight here and I'm already late to the Skeleton Saturday party! Hopefully these party favors will make up for that:
  14. Just wanted to say that I'm absolutely LOVING the themed day posts. I had nothing to contribute today but if tomorrow is Skeleton Saturday I'm going to be busy taking pics in the morning! I'm also fully onboard if Sunday, Bloody Sunday happens.
  15. That Strange Fantasy is sharp! That's a great cover and Farrells in nice shape are hard to come by (not just PCH-thier War stuff is equally rare in grade!).
