  1. I have a beautiful pair of Detective Comics #475 and #476, both CGC 9.2 with white pages. Of course, one of the greatest Batman stories of all time written by Denny O'Neil and illustrated by Marshall Rogers and Terry Austin. Selling as a pair only. $275 postpaid FINAL REDUCTION! $249 postpaid to U.S. via Priority Mail. takes it. No probies or listers or baddies.
  2. Stupid brats! Scrapper, one of Kirby's dozens of tough Brooklyn kids with a snap cap
  3. I wouldn't endorse pulp grading if it existed. It's too difficult and the grading itself could damage the books. I'd much rather have unslabbed books. Definitely more of a buyer's market than a decade ago, and in my opinion, the best buying is online. I've been to one pulp show, paper shows and comic shows, and the I wasn't as impressed with the books. Selection is better in online auctions. As for genres, top notch spicy, hero and weird menace pulps are tops. Of course, cover artists and writers matter. Burroughs and Lovecraft, for example, are still in demand.
  4. I applaud your decision to keep it as is. There aren't many copies in existence... it's great to have unrestored ones.
  5. Nice book! Wu Fangs and Yen Sins are not common in that condition. Love the Jerome Rozen covers. Cool interior illos, too.
  6. I may be in the minority, but I love the look of this book. I wouldn't touch it. It's patina!
  7. My personal 4: 1. Jim Steranko 2. Chris Ware 3. Mac Raboy 4. John Buscema
  8. I have a solid VG+ copy of Mystery Tales #40 for sale. This book, was both featured in the television series LOST and was also the first (along with JIM 33) Atlas book illustrated by Steve Ditko ("March Has 32 Days"). Cover is firmly attached at both staples. Centerfold is firmly attached. All pages have been counted. No missing coupons, no tape and no writing. Date stamp on upper right of back cover. Some wear at spine and at top edge of front and rear cover. Only a couple very small (less than 5mm) tears at edge of front cover and one on edge of rear cover. Top and bottom of spine have tiny tears. This is a really solid copy of a tough book to find in decent shape. Please let me know if you have any questions. No probies or listers. $490 postpaid to U.S. (foreign buyers, please contact first) takes it
  9. I wish the thread title was: "IS CARBO ALLOWED BACK INTO NY?"
  10. That would be the box art of Countermeasure for the Atari 5200. Great image and the only Atari 5200 box art that I've been able to track down in 10+ years of searching. I always liked those multi-dimensional Atari images with a figure in the foreground and action from another location in the background.... as in the 2600 and 5200 iterations of Missile Command.
  11. Love the catalog cover, Galaxian and Star Raiders. What's on the top left of your first photo?
  12. Great guy, easy transaction! Highly recommended. Thank you!
  13. early Ditko covers have been strong sellers when they have come up in the last few months. Space Adv 10, Thing 12 and Strange SS 19 have all done some nice numbers, but this beauty is the rarest of them all! Low number in the census, impossible book to find in any grade, much less this nice. Congrats to both buyer and seller. And I got two! Still no love for the Weird Mysteries 2, though. Such a great book, too. I'm with you on that book. Love Weird Mysteries 2. Great Baily cover with fantastic coloring! Weird Mysteries 6 will get its due someday, too.
  14. #9 - 11 are popular with me!! I realized that is faint praise. Briefer was one of the best storytellers and illustrators in comics history. The comedic Frankenstein stories are great, but he really hit another level with those later Frankenstein stories (beginning with #18). Tremendous work!
  15. Hahaha... I don't dislike Lou Fine's work. There would simply be a long line in front of him if I were to compile a list of favorite GA artists. Comments on a few opinions in this thread: 1. Love the Sub-Mariner... he's a timeless anti-hero. The way he was used in the FF and a number of the Sub-Mariner issues of the late 60's and early 70s are a testament to his strength. Babyface and heel in one! 2. Mask 1 over Mask 2. Mask 1 was the book that I flipped over when I saw it in a CBG in the early 90s and it was the first GA book I purchased (and still have). One of my favorite GA covers, if not the top! 3. Weird Mysteries #5: It's more than just monkey brains! Read the interior! It's my favorite PCH book 4. Have to agree about Horrific #3. The War Fury cover is far better, and pretty much all of Heck's covers for Horrific are better than that one. 5. Also have to agree that the best covers of the 30's were on pulps. MORE UNPOPULAR OPINIONS 9. Briefer is one of the best storytellers and illustrators of the Golden Age. If you don't believe me, check out Frankenstein #18 on. Some really great stuff. 10. I don't like any Atlas covers that aren't full bleed. For instance, not fond of the ones cut into vertical panels or ones with the three inset boxes. 11. Jack Cole doesn't get his due. Every time I look at the interior work that he did on Plastic Man, I'm just blown away. I do wish he worked on bigger characters... his legacy would have been different.
  16. Blasphemy!! You must be a big fan of red and yellow!
  17. Fun thread! UNPOPULAR OPINIONS: 1. Lou Fine doesn't do anything for me. What's his best cover Hit 5? Fantastic 3? That's the best you got? I never cared for his composition or his inking. 2. I love the consistent design of the EC covers, but I LOATHE the color block behind the logos. I've said this before... just imagine if those amazing artists could work with a full cover instead of a little square. It's a crime! 3. 1950s DC comics? No thanks. Oh wait, that's a popular opinion! 4. Harvey Comics get WAY too much attention. TOT15 and BCM50 are very overrated. Not a big fan of the interiors. I'll take Farrell interiors over Harvey. 5. Shelly Moldoff and Carmine Infantino. No. 6. I hate teams of kids. My dream comic would be THE BOY COMMANDOS vs. THE NEWSBOY LEGION vs. THE YOUNG ALLIES : FINAL ISSUE! NO KID IS LEFT STANDING! How many tough kids wearing hooligan snap caps did Kirby create in his career? A thousand? 7. Least favorite artist? Whoever edited/colored DC covers in the Golden Age. 8. If only Eisner saved that beautiful artwork for characters that we actually liked.
  18. Oh My......... a non Spidey panel page that, I daresay, transcends the medium ....what a special piece. Congrats. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) +1, its a beautiful page Add me to the list. Love it!!! Great page! Killer Gwen and Mary Jane! It doesn't get better than that for a Silver Age story page.
  19. Confirmed what I thought all along... this was nothing more than a licensing of Miller's name.
  20. Also, imagine that cover with the trees and a night sky continuing beneath the logo.
  21. If only Gaines chose to do full-bleed covers without the Old Witch/Vault Keeper/Crypt Keeper portraits and without the color background behind the title. Giving us a Ghastly cover where the artist was only given half of the space to illustrate is an unforgivable crime. Compare these layouts (not my books): I love Baily and Ghastly. Could you imagine if the latter had an entire cover as his canvas?
