  1. Please post these when you're done! I love the two you posted already.
  2. Cheetah - which auction was this? Those are AMAZING. Man, the quality of the EC art was so far beyond their competitors'. (Hope I'm not stepping on any toes.) I think Star Publications were of equal quality if not better. The STAR covers were better indeed due to L.B. Cole but the insides were a mash up of reprints of crime, mystery, jungle. horror. Some good stuff in there but not as well crafted or organized as the EC stuff. Just my opinion. You're being kind to the Star interiors! But, the Cole covers are amazing!
  3. Posted for Bangzoom... 1906 self-published 1st edition:
  4. Dwight.... again, you picked a perfect frame for a Shadow painting acquisition... Looks terrific!
  5. thanks! and compared to my usual want-list items, they are so damn affordable. been having a ball putting them together. and since the o'street has a buncha errors [mainly omissions] about raboy's, i find a new one that wasn't on my list every week or two. The lack of respect for Raboy in OS is borderline criminal. Great Captain Midnight cover, btw... love that one.
  6. There's nothing in that cover that says to me that it was by Cole. He almost always signed his covers.
  7. I thought about bidding, but I'm light on funds this month and the prices were already high. The Suspense Comics 8 cover proof went for over a grand. I thought the romance paperback cover painting prices were very strong.
  8. It doesn't exist. I seem to remember hearing from Jay Disbrow that there was some type of flood that destroyed it all. Keep in mind that most of the work in Star books was reprinted material. I've never seen a single piece of Star art, original or otherwise.
  9. VG copy of Haunted Thrills #18 (Ajax/Farrell, 1954) http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=4271705#Post4271705
  10. I like your choices. Dynamic 8 is far and away my favorite Chesler cover (as anyone can tell by my avatar!), followed by Punch 12 and Scoop 2.
  11. AWESOME WORK! Great choices for recreations, too!
  12. My copy also has a brownish tone in some areas of the cover.
  13. If it really is a 5.0, I don't think that $800+ is out of line at all.
  14. Horrific 3 (regardless of it being a portion of the War Fury cover) is very hard to find in high grade. I don't believe I've ever seen anything over VG.
  15. I thought the final price was a pretty good deal. WM #4 is tough book to find.
  16. Nice copy! One of the best pre-code horror covers. Love it...
  17. Not my cup of tea but a pretty nice copy. This almost qualifies as a "Hello Pal" moment part deux. I like this Millie cover but the Hello Pal makes me want to collect stamps. Metro has the Church copy. I heard it was the only comic Edgar stored upside down so he didn't have to see the cover while going through his books. request for encore heard, and granted. we are all about our adoring fans. I'd like to kill this comic book.
  18. Doiby, I'm heading to Philly in two weeks. Where are the best cheesesteaks? Geno's, Pats or some other local place? Tony Lukes. http://tonylukes.com/directions.htm Failing that, try Jim's at 4th and South. Under no circumstances go to Pat's or Geno's. Tourist traps.
  19. Lone Eagle (Ajax/Farrell) Swift Arrow (Ajax/Farrell) The Rider (Ajax/Farrell)
  20. Voodoo #5 is one of the tougher Voodoos, although my copy is in much better condition than my Voodoo Annual! I think you'll find a Fine copy of Voodoo #5 much more readily than you'll find an Annual in Fine.
  21. It can be difficult to separate truly scarce books from books that people keep in their collections and are not seen on the market that often. For instance... Mister Mystery #12... scarce or simply seldom sold due to classic cover? Voodoo Annual is definitely scarce in anything above VG. When they show up, they are usually around Good or Good+. The Farrell annuals (Voodoo, Fighting Man, G-I In Battle) often have loose pages due to the glue failing on the squarebound spines.
