  1. Most collectors I’ve met wouldn’t have an issue with this. Me? I wouldn’t let the thing travel with a SWAT team and an armored car
  2. Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of giclées printed on 11x17” artboard, in an effort to reproduce the original art as closely as possible. Capullo’s inker Glapion seems to have recently popularized this among certain artists and reps, upping the print game at conventions considerably. The average person will often mistake these for the originals. One example of an artist doing this is Scott Williams with the Batman 50 cover and splash, albeit on larger paper. Marquees are sometimes added. Someone messaged me on CAF the other day saying I owned his favourite page in comics, and expressed his interest even to own a print of the original art (to simulate the real thing.) A collector friend of mine with a sizeable collection has also mentioned framing reproductions and storing away the originals. While I dislike the idea of someone owning a near-indistinguishable reproduction (at least from wall-viewing distance) or displaying a repro, I do see the benefit of allowing an accessible entry-point to the hobby which also acts to educate the typical reader to the existence of original art. Will it bring in new collectors, increase the circulation of counterfeits, create a niche corner of the hobby which crosses prints with originals, or...? What do you all think? To clarify: I’m not talking about digital art being printed, I’m talking about traditional art being reproduced digitally.
  3. The Cabal eats non-Michelin, commoner food? Just a bunch of normies after all...
  4. Great summary. I think this sums it up pretty well for me: “Anti-comicsgaters criticize EVS for supposed racism and misogyny and point to a recently created female superhero like Green Lantern Jessica Cruz as a success. Then EVS responded by pointing out that he co-created her.” I won’t support art in certain scenarios, like Syaf’s anti-semitism. I was at an art collectors meetup a couple years back and saw a nice piece. When I asked who illustrated it, I was told he was an ex-comic artist currently in prison for pedophilia! At that point I rather the piece burned than in my collection
  5. Snyder said it was to show the vulnerability of Batman. He also says, “Lol. Folks who work with my wife at the hospital asking about this comic book that shows Batman's junk. Had no idea it was this big a deal. Still don't get it, but hey” IMO it was forced as the lighting perfectly outlined it in every scene, and there were many. DC said reprints will not include it and the digital does not either. I’m unsure whether this was a publicity stunt or something they regret as it’s grabbing all the attention.
  6. It kinda sucks that the focus is on d-ick and not the actual story. I wonder if it’ll overcome that or be known only for that.
  7. I’ve had NFS people sell dozens of times. Means nothing, in my opinion. I’ll also move my own NFS pieces when it makes sense. I feel like this topic comes up almost weekly.
  8. Particularly because it shifts from art appreciation to making a buck.
  9. Why do some pieces hit auction over and over again? E.g., that Hughes Batman piece is hitting auction for the 3rd(?) consecutive time. Are winners not paying, having seller’s remorse, [trying] to flip?
  10. Others will know better than me here, but from what I’ve learned: 1. Of a non contemporary book, yes 2. No, unless you find the collector who believes it does and will back it up with their wallet. 3. Less than the per-page going rate if sold as a whole.
  11. No idea, don't know the person well enough. It's just too expensive for me to buy outright. Thanks. I've had large cash offers, but the only way I see myself trading it is [towards] a Hush cover, which I can't seem to find as they're all in "black hole collections" :P Goes back to the topic at hand!
  12. As a recent personal example...I was offered a great Hush splash for my Long Halloween TPB cover. I'm not doing it, but my only real shot at the Hush piece would be the trade.
  13. If it's truly a black hole collection, and if that means its never coming out, no amount of money would affect the outcome. It would come down to death. I suppose the only realistic possibility is owning a piece(s) they want more than the one you're inquiring about...which happens.
  14. I haven't read IG, but that seems like it would be one of the best pieces, no? Illustration is awesome, moment is key...$23K seems quite good considering the popularity of the story and the significance of it.
  15. I had a guy who would consistently CAF message me (and others) when a new piece was posted to randomly compliment one of our pieces, fishing for return comments. That was one of numerous avenues in what seemed like a desperate need for affirmation on, what is in my opinion, unwise purchases. I do like comments, and I do like serious purchase inquiries even if I’m not selling. It’s nice to know should the need arise and I consider it a compliment that someone would like the piece so much as to want to buy it.
  16. I’m all for sharing. If you’re gonna take (look at CAF galleries), give a little.
  17. Let’s not be silly, guys, it’s McSpidey. Shipping is extra. But fees are included. Otherwise that’s robbery.
  18. I believe smaller* pieces are a better investment than bigger** because the buyer pool is substantially larger, but I will pretty much always trade multiple smaller for a bigger as it’s my collecting preference. I just prefer to keep my collection tight and focus on the best examples from those stories or artists. There will be some bigger pieces that will produce an incredible yield if you find the right buyer at the right time, but if you’re talking investments, it’s better to go with the consistency and liquidity of smaller, in my opinion. *mid-high four figures **low to low-mid five figures
  19. FYI, it’s not uncommon for MTG to carry comic and board game shops. Without it, many would fold. The popularity of MTG far exceeds anything you’d expect. It is absolutely incomparable to baseball cards, beanie babies, etc., particularly as it leads in a resurgence of board and card gaming as a tech-driven world craves human interaction.
